Lyndsayann ~ welcome :D I love hearing peoples stories as I am incredably nosey and it helps me picture you all if I know more about you than just your names. You have my sympathy as I can see you've had a rough time. Here's to better times ahead:T

moonoixiewitxh ~ welcome to you and your husband. It's great if you can do it together, you'll be able to keep each other going :T Good Luck and stick with the thread

Applemella ~ I know it is quite sad that I am putting life on hold but I think it's what will ultimatly make me better. I am REALLY ashamed and embarrassed about my weight. If I want to change my life I've got to loose the weight. I think if I get a new job being this fat I'll stay this way!

Russetred ~ welcome to you too :T Give us more details about your plans :D

    Hi to everyone else :hello:

As there are so many newbys on here who are having to tell us all their "stories" I thought perhaps us original loosers should re cap on our reasons for being on here too. I'll condense it don't worry!:rotfl: ~

I am 18 1/2 stone at present, bit not for much longer. I am 34 and married (18 years this year!:j ) to Mr Frog.
    I have 1 female Tadpole , 12 next week and 1 male Tadpole who is 10 1/2.
I work term time only in a Uni Library.

I suffered from annorexia when I was a teenager which I am reliably informed was a reaction to a messy family break up. My weight has been as little as 6 1/2 st to as much as 22 stone :o I have lost the weight 3 times and got down to 11 the last time. This time last year I was 11 1/2 stone :o

I am loosing weight because I am VERY happy with EVERYTHING else in my life except my fatness! I have a wardrobe FULL of really fashionable , lovely clothes and at the moment I wear the same jumper and pair of trousers EVERYDAY as it's the only thing that fits!! I have to wash them and dry them over night or I can't go out the next day!!

I'm 5 ft 5 in ( yes, I know , it is tall for a frog) and at 13 1/2 st I am size 14 , so I'll aim for that first. At 12 st I am a size 12 (a curvy one!) and VERY happy with that! I have sucessfully lost weight SO many times I KNOW I can do it! It usually takes me a month to loose a stone , so I'll be happy in 5 months!

Good luck to everyone else, pehaps we could all do a re cap today?

Last day having the Tadpoles at home as it's back to school and back to work for me tomorrow  Still, only 5 weeks til half term! :j

    Morning!

Hi to lynseyann and moonpixiewitch :hello:

    Frogga - only 34! you're a baby!:D

To all you newbies here's a bit about me too
I am 41:eek: and last year I managed to lose 1 stone 9 and a half pounds taking me down from a size 16 to size 12:j I've never been this slim and its great but I desparately want to stop here now after all this hard work! I did it through a mixture of SW and OS healthy eating, cooking from scratch etc. I have had some major stress issues recently, have been diagnosed with IBS, eldest DS had a car crash and now I've got yet another abnormal smear(had pre-cancerous cells once before) and am waiting for a hospital appointment to find out more, DH has had serious health issues too with a chronic back condition and a few years ago he had major heart surgery. So I have done as fair bit of comfort eating but with help from you lot and especially my mate Frogga its going to stop off!:T (also turned veggie recently apart from fish once a week)

    Today my food plans are

    B - weetabix with raisins

    banana

L - jacket spud with cottage cheese and pineapple

clementine or exotic fruit(half price at Tesco - pineapple, mango and papaya)

D - yorkshires and roasted veggies.

i hope you all have a great day!

    take care xxxx

edited as i forgot to say I have been married for 20 years (in March) and have two sons, one aged 18(in a couple of weeks) and a fifteen year old both over 6ft tall and slim. I started at 11st 11 and a halfpounds(have been upto 12 and a half stone) and last time I weighed was 10 stone 2 pounds.
    Do what you love :happyhear

Hi Peeps! Sun's struggling but looks like it could be winning if it keeps trying!

I'll attempt an 'essential out-line only' of why I'm here, but I have to warn you that I like the sound of my own keypad :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My dad's family were all under 5'6 & not exactly "ideal weight"; mum's were even shorter so looked more rotund......muvva is 4'6 in her slippers:D We had good, english type food of spotted !!!!!!, thick stews with dumplings & bread & dripping for Sunday tea.

I am now at the half century; have three strapping 20 somethings & two of them unfortunately share my build:o I've been seperated from their dad for 17yrs & have no interest in looking for anyone else....I like not having to share my bed with anyone but the pup:D

I lost 6stone with SW about 14yrs ago, but it came back & brought some friends after my dad passed in '93. I have always loathed athletic sports, but enjoy walking if my dietary tract will allow:o It helps having Pup....our first.

My parents both have/had late onset diabetes with associated medical implications; my in-laws have cancer---predominently gastric---& heart history.

So that's why I'm here......I want my children to have a better chance of a LIFE they can enjoy, rather than having to live with the consequences....& I need to lead by example:o
    Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;
loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Do you think if you make ALL your food from scratch that the calories and nutricious (sp) values will be alot better than buying processed ones.

The reason I ask is i make my own cheesecake, however, I do make it with butter, full fat yogurt and full fat soft cheese, and digestive biscuits. I only ever have a small slice because its quite heavy, and wondered if this would have lower calories than the ones you buy from Asda etc.
Also, I have started to make my own bread, do you think this would also have lower calories than the ones you buy from the shop?

Hya Folks, oldies and newbies (to this thread of course, we are all young at heart!)

Frogga, your idea of a recap day is a great one, so here goes:

I am 47, married (25 years this October!), 5 foot 6 and 18 stone 4, at least I was last Monday, hopefully a bit less tomorrow, though illness has prevented much exercise this week.
I have two boys, 18 (last week) and nearly 15 (in Feb), both 6 foot plus!
I work as a part-time tutor at a local IT Centre, started teacher-training last November, and should be trying to set up my Garden Design business (perhaps this year!).

I broke my back 24 years ago, two weeks before getting married. Originally thought to be "just bruised", I managed to get married and start my (one and only full time) new job. On my second day there they rushed me off to hospital, to diagnose that I had indeed broken my sacrum (in the pelvis). Luckily they decided against traction, but severe bed-rest instead!. Over the years I have had lots of back problems, in 2000 (the year I turned 40), the doctors cheerfully told me I had the back of an 80 year old! I know I have to lose weight to improve my back, but when I get to certain level of fitness, I invariably do too much and make everything worse. So this year it is going to be slow but sure, I hope!

I managed to get down to 11 stone before my wedding and would love to get there again. I need to exercise as well as eat less, which is what I am trying to do. My heaviest was last year at 19 stone 4, so I suppose I should be pleased that I have managed to take off, and keep off that first stone. We have been at our present house for 12 years, and the lightest I have been here was 15 stone 10, when I was doing RC and had three jobs! That was 10 years ago, so it is about time I saw the lighter side of 16 stone. I would like to get there before the summer, so here goes!

I am terrible at grazing, so I have to watch what I eat all the time, and find something healthy to munch on. I do a lot of home baking, more since my DS2 was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 years ago. I have found eating smaller portions has certainly helped me. My teenagers think it's great "getting some of Mum's food".

So now as everyone is out of the house this morning (rugby), I am catching up with everything on the computer...we now have a up-to-speed modem, yipppeee! :j

I have planned the next week's menus and have completed setting up and modifying a monthly-spending spreadsheet, so I can loose the lbs and save the £s!

Good luck with everyone for this year.;)

  • I agree that the stories are really interesting and I find them a help.

Mine is that I'm 44, married with two sons, 18 and 14. I need to lose 10 - 11 stone, to feel healthy again.
My mother and older sister were serial dieters that were obsessed by it, and genuinely believe every new diet will work. I resisted all their efforts to get me to join in until my 14th birthday, (I was barely overweight then. ) and so began the whole nightmare of dieting.

30 years on I've learnt how to rebel against it. Gave up conventional dieting and 2 years ago lost 3 stone, which got me mobile again. Lost a further 2 stone and put it back on by getting complacent. Now I've the right mind set to continue on my journey.

Reason? I never want to have to worry if I can fit in a seat, if something will take my weight, to sit on the sidelines because I'm too embarrassed to join in, or worry that every pain is leading to that heart attack. I want to lose my walking stick, swim, go paintballing with kids, oh the list is endless. To have the freedom to live again sums it up. I've become old before my time and I'm going to change that. Looking forward to 2008 and the benefits of those changes. :D

Oh and I don't go out to work, I teach DS2 at home, as I did DS1 till he started work. I love to cook and bake and use that to make all my cooking from scratch. We are on a tiny budget until our debts are paid back (long story) and I'm lucky enough to have time during the day to cook and sew to save money. Basically I love my life but need to lose the worry of my weight and it's implications on my health. :)

jackie_w making everything from scratch mean that you know exactly what you are eating. It does not however mean that is always healthier! Okay, there will be much fewer additives (salt, sugar and herbs are additives!), but there can be loads of fats (saturated or otherwise) and sugars, so be careful. As you have made the food, you will be able to adjust how much to take of any really high calorie food. After all, this thread talks about a way of eating, not a "diet". Just eat less, especially the high calorie stuff. Don't deprive yourself completely, as we all know, that leads to greater cravings!

I made some of Nigella's chocolate fudge (just 72% chocolate, condensed milk and butter, oooohhh soooo scrummmy!)
at Christmas, gave some away as pressies, but kept a fair bit for the family. I cut it into 1cm cubes (approx) as it is sooo rich, but everyone was quite happy to have one bit at a time and eat it slowly. It needs to be kept in the fridge, which also helped to stop my munching it all the time.

I managed to stay the same over the Christmas period (okay I was a bit ill, but I didn't stop eating and did very little exercise) so I am well chuffed!

As to your lovely cheesecake, I expect it could well have a higher calorie content than those in the shop, though you never know...why don't you work it out, could be scary though! Most, if not all of your will have nutritional data on the packets, so it is feasible to do the calculation. Good luck! ;)

Must dash and get the second load of washing out...the sun is shining! :j

  • Hi all, once again it's been a while, christmas and new year seems to have been a lot more manic then i can ever remember it being before so had little time for anything but i'm back now and aim to be posting on here everyday again as hoping 2008 will be the year that i get to a weight at which i'm happy.

Following on from frogga's recap suggestion i'll let you know a bit about me and why i'm here:

I'm 23, having a wonderful 7 year old dd and last year returned to my parents home due to debts, and wanting to return to studying to try and give both dd and i a future that involved more then scrapping by :D .

I'm studying with the OU (history degree) and work part time for the NHS as well as doing the odd shifts in a friends pub as and when needed.

I started my weightloss journey last October weighing 118kgs and am now at 107kgs and 2 dress sizes smaller. I don't weigh myself at home, instead go by my weighins at the doctors when i go for my depo injection every 11 weeks, it's the same scales and i have somebody else watching over me to stop me rounding down :o.

This thread really is a wonderful place for inspiration and support and i'm really cross with myself for not checking in as often as i should have but i'm back and you're now stuck with me ;)

Hi everyone, it's been really inspirational reading all your stories. Here's mine:
I'm 38 years old, been married for the last 8 years to a fantastic bloke. I have 4 daughters, oldest is nearly 21 and expecting a baby at the end of Feb so I will be a granny! Yippee! My other daughters are 7, 6 and 5 and I am mostly a SAHM. I also have a mad collie, 2 grumpy cats and 2 very loud guinea pigs.

I have been overweight ever since I hit puberty, I had a horrendous childhood so I felt 'safer' being fat.
Now I top the scales at 25 stone and desperately want to lose at least 10 stone or I fear I won't be around to see my kids and grandchild grow up
    .
I have joined nearly every weightloss club around and although they have had limited success, I always put the weight back on with some more to keep it company!
I struggle with bulimia, FOOD IS NOT MY FRIEND :D

Saying all that, I am really happy with my life, my kids and hubby are fab, I volunteer once a week with a local mental health charity as an advocate and really enjoy it. I make cards and cross stitch, I love cooking and reading and I feel if I could just crack the weight/food issue my life couldn't get better!

I'm sorry if this is too personal but I feel so tired of people assuming that all fat people are lazy, smelly stupid and ugly etc. The comments that have been made by ignorant members of my family, general public and professionals still make me cry every time.

Realistically I expect to 'fail' many times in this attempt but I have to keep trying and not give up altogether. I hope to make friends here and not be judged. I want to support others in their journey and be supported in mine. And finally, thank you every one who has got this far and read all of this. Love Dumpling xx
  • Hi All,
Just thought I should reply to Tapylady's post as it has struck a chord with me.
I had abnormal smears for 4 years on and off , gave up smoking , still abnormal so had all available trreatments , still abnormal . Eventually opted for a hysterectomy 2yrs ago , as I was 36 and daughter was 17 and I didn't want any more children. Luckily my husband (not daughters real father - although if you met them you wouldn't know ;)) doesn't want children of his own , so was quite happy to support this decision.:D However the combination of giving up smoking and having this operation has meant I have piled on the weight in the two years since , as well as the hormonal upset causing all kinds of skin allergy reactions to everyday things like shampoo , soaps , moisturisers and most deodorants , I don't think the hormonal side of things has helped with weight either. SW made me gain weight overall despite sticking to it rigidly , so after 6 weeks I gave up on that and I still can't look at a certain brand of yoghurt even now ,a year and half later, without feeling sick!
Due to own and hubbys health concerns and family history , we have to lose weight, but we need to find something that is a sustainable life style change not a fad diet that we can "fall off of" . I think this thread is closest we have ever got. Thanks to all who post here , and we look forward to being part of this friendly little community and losing some weight :T
