Dawnylou - someone else is bound to know what the 'damage' of the KFC was, but I googled and found that the regular fillet burger with chips equates to around 738 cals. Which is probably around 1/2 to 3/4 of your daily food if losing weight by that method.

I'd say if you'd spend 3 hours working up a sweat scrubbing you must be hungry by now and so deserve your dinner. If not, back away from the beef and drown your sorrows in the wine.

Will the meal be healthy enough to warrant a glass of rose? Or have I been too naughty already??

Hmm I've yet to meet a meal that is not healthy enough for a glass of wine....hic..;)

Hi all, can I join you too? My DD will be 1 on the 22nd of jan so I'm still blaming my extra weight on her. The week of her birthday I'm cutting work down to one day a week. Would love to be a full time SaH mummy, but cant quite manage it, but it means I'll have lots more time to cook proper meals and teach DD about healthy choices, well thats my plan anyway. I need to loose about a stone, 1½ would be great, as I'm still breastfeeding I cant diet as such, but I can start eating better.
The problem I have now is mixing the healthier food with saving money, so I'm here for some tips. DH is a meat lover, so I bulk my food out with vegies, but I find all the lean meat is so much more expensive. Today I've bought a lamb shoulder to use for a curry, only £3 odd, but its so much fat and bane, its taken me ages to trim it and it's still much fattier than say a leg steak.
    Hope to be back regularly

    Hi Mary.

What a coincidence my birthday is also 22nd Jan and my mum is also blaming her excess weight on me!! However as I'm 46 I don't think she can get away with it as well as you can:D (also she stopped breast feeding a while ago:eek:)
I'm sure you will teach you daughter good habits (I seem to have managed to keep my girls- I can recomend a daughter..or two..or three:rolleyes:- eating healthily) But then they did not realise Easter eggs came with backs until they were about 10:o.
One of my girls(althlete-fathers side I guess!) likes to eat lots of protein and a side of beef at every meal would be her choice. Have you tried a slow cooker, I love it tenderises all sorts of cuts of meat. Throw it all in the pot whilst baby is napping it cooks away all day whilst you play:p then it's ready whenever it's convenient for you.
    Good luck

    Hi all.

I've had a good day all round. Breakfast was the usual muesli with skimmed milk and extra raisins, a glass of cranberry and raspberry juice and a (very small) milky coffee. I then had a quick walk to the supermarket to stock up with fruit and bread.

Lunch was a bowl of mushroom soup (Covent Garden not homemade), freshly baked baguette and grapes. Daughter and I then went out for a longish walk along with a friend and her dog. We were out over an hour and a half so felt healthy and glowing at the end of it.

I cooked rice with prawns, peppers, garlic and mushrooms for the evening meal, which was delicious. I even had a portion left over to give to DD to take back to London for her lunch on Monday morning. I finished off with another bunch of grapes.

Although I shouldn't keep hopping on the scales I can't resist it and have lost a pound already, although official weigh in is Wednesday. Once we are back in Spain I shall be able to stick to weekly weigh ins as we don't have any scales in our apartment. I am crossing my fingers I will be down another lb before we fly out on Wednesday afternoon. I suppose if I manage lots more long walks and continue to be good I might even see 11 stone 5lbs on the scales - fingers crossed!!

Oh dear I brought out the scales today,10 stone 9lbs. How did that happen? Do you think it was the lorry loads of beer I drank over Christmas?:rotfl: Never mind looks like I'll be joining this fine band of OS weight losers and trying to shift at least a stone.I don't mind cutting back on food but I've vowed no more beer till I lose a stone. This could be a very sober few months ahead.

  • Frogga made me so sad to read why you didn't feel you could apply for that job. I totally understand how you feel. When I started my current job as an LSA at a college I was really worried about my size and working with 16/17/18 year olds but there have been no problems. If I did have any comments I know I can deal with it by using the colleges discplinery procedures.

  • Saversarn its my birthday on 22nd as well!!!When I was at school(many years ago)there were 3 of us with birthdays on 22nd Jan!!Must be a good day!!
  • Hello everyone ,
I found this thread last week after a huge fat laden new years day meal at the in laws . Me and hubby felt so fat and ill afterwards we searched for yet another diet to try and lose the massive amounts of weight we both need to shift! (Me 5 stone , Him 7 stone). Have tried slimming clubs and failed miserably - i just can't live on a certain brand of yoghurt!and we can't stand all that clapping business!!! I like cooking (catering trained) which is always my downfall and hubby is as he terms it "a food explorer". So we have been trying to follow the basic principles of this thread since the evening of the 1st Jan . We have dramatically reduced our portion sizes and fat intake as we have realised that is why we have put on so much weight in the last couple of years.
I have lost 3lb already ! (hubby won't get on the scales at all as he is terrified )- so thank you to all who post to this thread with all the great ideas for meals/menus. Our basic menus have been as follows for the last three days
    Breakfast- Him
Bowl of cornflakes or 2 slices of wholemeal seeded toast (not homemade)
Me- One slice of toast and one boiled egg or bowl of porridge (i very rarely want sweet breakfasts)
    Lunch - both (at work)
Homemade soup - Chicken & pearl barley , or bacon and soup mix , or veg .
    Piece of fruit .
Afternoon snack- piece of fruit and hubby has hummus and carrot sticks too and maybe a hard boiled egg.
    Dinner - both
Roast chicken with herby roasted root veg/med veg
    or
Homemade Wagamamas style chicken Ramen (its called chicken chilli men on their menu)- yummy (used left over chicken from previous day)
    or
Low fat homemade cottage pie with green veg and gravy

evening snacking is now confined to homemade pickled onions / chillies/beetroot or hard boiled eggs or rice crackers if desperate for some crunch!

I am packing and freezing any left overs so hubby can't pick at them in the evenings - which hopefully should reflect in our food budget soon.
Hoping this is finally a sustainable way of eating that may help to shift this weight at long last? Every other diet we have tried (and there have been many) has fallen by the wayside after a month or two because we got soooo bored cooking and eating the same things again and again.

Finding myself looking forward to cooking and eating some interesting dishes over the next few months. Thinking of keeping track of recipes in a database of some sort if i get time , if any one has any ideas on how to do this quickly and efficiently please let me know.

hi there everybody, ive only just noticed this thread and please i would love to join.i need to lose weight! probably about 8 stone:eek: and i will be requiring help!!ive always been overweight but didnt really see it as a problem till after i had my first child.she is now 7 and decided to try for another when she was 1 year old,as specially as we had no problems trying for her-2 months!months went buy and nothing, then i got pregnant and unfortunatley misscarried.it happened again and again and again. i suffered 5 misscariages in total.had all tests done a hospital couldnt find anything wong except for my liver[which i thought was strange as i dont drink] so it got me thinking.i did something about it and lost weight[if anything for a new baby] i lost 5 stone then i got pregnant.everything went ok and i had another beautiful baby girl, but i still had worry about my liver.when i was in to my 3rd month of pregnancy i had got an appointment to see a liver specialist.i went to see consultant told him i was pregnant.he was very pleased for me but told me to go back to see him after my daughter was born.i did and i had a scan on my liver.urns out i was on the brink of having a fatty liver, which messes with your hormones that can cause you to misscarry and that the only reason i carried sucessfully was because i lost the five stone.if i wanted another child sucessfully i would have to keep the weight off.i do want another child and be healthy at the same time so if you can help me and i will try to help you [if i can] sorry if i have gone of the trail a bit by my story but thanx for reading, it will probably help me more now.thanx
