    I've just done a 2.5miles walk in 40 minutes. Sweating cobs like but feel energised now so I'm off to do some housework and will eat a small lunch about 12.30, then more housework and another walk later although that won't be anywhere near as long, I might just go the long way around to the school to pick up my daughter :think:

    How about any of these - all are around 150 calories

    4 ryvita with low fat spread and marmite
    3 or 4 ryvita with dairylea light
    3 rice cakes with either of the above
    any of the above with meat or fish paste (the kind in the little jars)
    packet of potato heads and an apple
    an apple and 1oz piece of edam
    cup of soup with ryvita
    home made popcorn - about 1oz of kernels popped in a lidded pan with about 1tsp of oil in - I sprinkle it with a little splenda and a bit of salt (I know it sounds weird but its lovely)
    sugar free jelly (only 40 calories if you eat the whole thing)
    carrot sticks and extra light philadelphia mixed with some chives or black pepper or chilli flakes

    Good luck - I have to be so careful with snacks as they can often tempt me off the straight and narrow!

    I have to say I've never understood this 'feed the kids at 5 and the adults at 8' thing. We ate at 6PM every night all together parents + kids. Why make 2 different meals?? Waste of time to me! I wonder if thats why kids these days seem to be such fussy eaters --- they dont' see mum + Dad eating and often get to whine and fuss to eat what they want rather than what is put in front of them. WHy would you eat healthily if you never see your parents eating the same thing??

    I agree totally with you.:T

    My twin daughters are 4 years old and we eat as a family at 5pm. Everyone says they couldn't eat that early, but I have found how much easier it is to lose weight eating early, as you are not going to bed on a full stomach.

    We eat later on a Saturday night to spend some time as a couple, but it works well for us all.

    I do have a snack at 9pm though as I am getting peckish, but when we used to eat later when the girls had gone to bed, I seemed to be eating constantly from dinner to bedtime. :eek:

  • whoooee I love this board!! I am a bit thick with this so please would someone direct me to the cabbage recp you are raving about? Did you see kath and Kim last night?? Good luck everyone. I am currently 5'2" and 15 stone ugh. I want to lose weight BUT I dont want to diet or eat stuff I wouldnt eat normally. I've dieted in the past (aint we all) and been size 10 (ah memories) but this time I want to do it for health & for me. I think if you are fat you are disatvantaged. I've read lots re how you can be fat & happy etc etc - but at the end of the day - I love clothes and I hate being the largest person in the room. I've started this time & I want it to be the last time food is an issue by seeing the nutrisonist at the doctors. I'm keeping a food diary this week & we are going to do the thyroid, etc etc next week.
    I DO think I eat healthily - my diet is 5 fruit & veg per day etc but maybe I just eat too much of a good thing - or not enough as someone else suggested. Anyway I could blah blah for hours - thank you so much for this
    and break a leg everyone!!!!

    How about some plain bread sticks dipped in some very, very low fat soft cheese....(i find this helps with the cheese craving)
    I too am more of a savoury person and before I decided enough was enough i was eating 3 packs of crisps a day:eek:

    Today is great so far, just my usual brekkie and soup lunch but treated myself to an M&S raspberry yoghurt which are a bit higher than the regular Activia I have but they taste amazing and really satisfy my sweet cravings.
    I fancy veggie cottage pie tonight so will have to try and get home a bit earlier.

    Trying not to weigh myself more than once a fortnight as it depresses me but in 3 weeks I have lost 7lb so hopefully I can stick to that sort of level so that it will stay off this time.

    We usually all eat together at 6pm except on the now rare occasion that me and DH are having curry/chilli. I know people say 'oh my kids are so fussy etc etc' but so were mine and i was pandering to it i was cooking them 'things they would eat' just for an easy life. but i realise now i was doing them no favours really, and now they will eat whatever i cook for them, BUT sometimes it is a battle and i still get all the usual i don't like this, i don't like that. my way around it is to always have an afters for them usually yoghurts/frubes ( i freeze the frubes, they love them like that) sometimes it will be cake bars ....but if they don't eat the dinner they get no treat, as i continually explain to them they have to eat the healthy food to get the unhealthy.....

    This week i will be mostly eating salad:rotfl:

  • This list is based on one in a brilliant book called The Diet Bible by Judith Wills. It is full of sensible advice (which I should really take more notice of :o ) and meal ideas. I thought it might be useful to us OS slimmers, I have adapted it a bit from the original list in the book to suit my tastes.

    Carbohydrates
    bread, dried pasta, rice, barley, potatoes, oats, Ryvitas

    Proteins
    medium or low-fat cheese, such as Brie, Camembert, Edam, feta,mozzarella, cottage cheese;
    extra-lean ham, cooked turkey, eggs, canned tuna, sardines and mackerel;
    baked beans, dried beans and lentils including mung beans for sprouting;
    fresh fish such as mackerel, coley, herring, frozen white fish fillets and salmon fillets (not as cheap as white fish but a family friendly oily fish;) ); whole chickens, lean mince, lean pork (cheaper than beef or lamb);
    hm yogurt, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, dried skimmed milk

    Fruits
    fresh apples, bananas, kiwis, satsumas and other fruits in season; dried apricots, prunes, raisins; canned fruits in natural juice; lemons
    frozen berries and stewed fruit that I've picked/been given

    Vegetables
    Canned tomatoes, tomato puree and passata
    onions, carrots, white cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, beansprouts (see above)
    frozen peas and sweetcorn
    fresh veg in season

    Hi everyone
    Thanks ladies, I have taken on board the suggestion of taking healthy snacks with me to work. We have a shop at work, so that means I wont have to do a shop run at all :rotfl: I already take my own coffee in a flask as no way will I pay 58p, as I only drink black coffee it only gives me half a cup!

    Today I ate breakfast - porridge. For lunch I had a cheese spread roll and yoghurt and tonight I will have chicken and ham pasta, not going to make it into a pasta bake though, as that will mean I pile cheese on the top! Only me here for tea tonight so must be good and stick some in the fridge or freezer.

    I have spent the day decluttering so guess thats my excercise for the day. Although I am not looking forward to going back to work after 6 weeks, the walk there and back will do me good. I really am not a gym person but as I dont have a car I walk everywhere. And now my wrist is sort of better I am looking to do something, the local dance school does belly dancing - I quite fancy that.

    I agree that it is best for the family to eat together, but it doesnt always work out, I used to cook different meals as, DD went dancing most nights and didnt want to eat before she went. DS did athletics and wanted loads of carbs before he went and exH didnt finish work till late and didnt want heated up foods. Its no wonder that after that when I was on my own I fell into the convenience food trap!

    I do enjoy cooking again now - its funny how you forget how good HM meals taste. I use a lot of the recipes off the DiabetesUK web site as SD has diabetes and nowadays its not about not eating sugar, but making sure meals are well balanced.

    I had better stop rambling on - once I go back to work my posts will probably be 2 lines long lol
    whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

    Just been to tesco (payday) bought more porridge :rolleyes: and also bought some frozen cherries to make it taste nice :D Cherries are my favourite fruit so hopefully will look forward to porridge more that way :rotfl:

    Lost ¼lb this week. Not much but it still in the right direction (and I've sneaked crisps and HM bread pudding - which was low fat and had half a tin of apples in which needed using up). :o
    working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
