Hi!
Thanks for input Mrs Macawber - I know my portion sizes are also, well, generous shall we say? I'm just so weakwilled! But I would like to create a slightly more favourable impression - just might break a few chairs when I sit down otherwise. (Maybe a tad exaggerated, but you know what I mean!) Son's partner comes from Stuttgart, so near there. She's insisting on a Christmas market, to which I'm really looking forward. Bit nervous, as she comes from quite a large extended family - and my few words of German may not be enough! Am trying to listen to a language tape, but progress is slow!

I'm shattered! I've cleaned the house from top to botom - even cleaned the cooker :D (it REALLY needed it)
I've still got the kitchen floor to do but I think that can wait until tomorrow!

I've not been terribly good food wise today, brekkie was toast and marmalade, lunch was beans on toast and an Alpen bar, tea will be cauli cheese and dry roasted potatoes - cooking as we speak - smells delicious!.
I've got a bag of crisps and will have a glass of wine while I watch Casualty, I like my weekly fix of Charlie....am I weird or what!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Hope you are all having a nice relaxing weekend!! :A

Where are you today Frogga??

Clementine cake is very nice Mrs MCC...then in next post Recovering Spendaholic gives a recipe for a similar one...this is Nigella's which is the one I use

4 to 5 unpeeled clementines (about 1 pound total weight)
6 eggs
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
2 1/3 cups ground almonds
1 heaping teaspoon baking powder
Directions

1. Put the unpeeled clementines in a pot with cold water to cover, bring to the boil, and cook for 2 hours.

2. Drain and, when cool, cut each clementine in half and remove the seeds.

3. Then chop everything finely — skins, pits, fruit — in the food processor (or by hand, of course). Preheat the oven to 375ェ. Butter and line an 8-inch spring form pan.

4. Beat the eggs. Add the sugar, almonds, and baking powder. Mix well, adding the chopped clementines. I don't like using the processor for this, and frankly, you can't balk at a little light stirring.

5. Pour the cake mixture into the prepared pan and bake for an hour, when a skewer will come out clean; you'll probably have to cover the cake with foil after about 40 minutes to stop the top burning.

6. Remove from the oven and leave to cool, on a rack, but in the pan. When the cake's cold, you can take it out of the pan. I think this is better a day after it's made, but I don't complain about eating it any time.

* Variation: I've also made this with an equal weight of oranges, and with lemons, in which case I increase the sugar to 1 1/4 cups and slightly anglicize it, too, by adding a glaze made of confectioners' sugar mixed to a paste with lemon juice and a little water.

To-day I have eaten:
B. porridge with banana, honey and milk, slice brown bread and marmalade, half pear, water;
L: salad with cheese..various, small amount chorizo, small slice brown bread, beetroot, tomato;
D. going out with OH, DB and his partner, will have to be very careful as not driving so I can have a few glasses of wine and difficult to find something low-cal where we are going...still I have been reasonably good today and at least this is the end of the birthdays etc until Christmas!

Sitting in dressing gown, showered but not really knowing what I am wearing and my taxi (DD3) arrives at 7.

Good luck to all

Pigpen pet,
Get some more food in please...try something in the morning even if just a banana and a glass of water....you see I am an expert now that I have lost the one pound!
Marie

LOL.. I lost a bit last week but think it may be back on with extras this week.. I have done nothing.. walking is practically impossible though I have tried to persevere with the school run, the dance class run was more than I could bear today so I sent hubby! I've walked from the kitchen to the front room a few times and back again.. thats 40 ft each way!

I can't eat banoonies.. they are taboo with my latex allergy and actually make me quite ill.. as do Kiwi fruit (which I ADORE) and avacados. I usually manage a cuppa first thing.. or sometimes up to 6!! lol I think most of my diet is made up of tea!!

Today I've had..

no breakfast.. 2 cuppas..
no lunch.. 2 huge cuppas..
and a huge bowl of corned beef hash tonight with 2 thick slices of homemade bread.. scrummy.. I'll be eating the rest all week it is so delicious!

Supper will be several vodka and lemonades!! YUMMY!!

oooofff - just typed a reply and it has vanished into cyberspace.

Oh well - lets start again

Pigpen - sorry I will nag - you do need to eat more to feel well and also keep you body burning calories - seems a bit daft. Also more food may help you have a bit more energy - everytime I mention I have felt extra tired my personal trainer says I might not be eating enough :j but then talks about healthy food:eek: . If you don't like breakfast type foods how about flapjack or a muffin with your morning cups of tea.

Meanmaire, spendaholic - cakes sound good - I do like this a weight loss thread full of cakes, mincepies and of course all MrsM's scrummy sounding cooking.

Beemuzzed - not sure I qualify to give advice, but mine would be, snack on fruit and yogurt then cut down on meal sizes, exercise and drink lots of water. There is some research that most people can't tell if they are hungry or thirsty so think they are hungry and eat - when really a drink would have done.

Well - I ran over a mile this morning. My personal trainer tricked me, and I did 1.6 km in 13 minutes. Not bad - 8 weeks ago I could only run for one minute. Speed is still not great but at least I am moving.
OK- having a pesonal trainer is not very money saving, but at least it means I go to the gym and I always do way more with him then I would do on my own.
On a moneysaving note, I do have cheap gym membership - £20 instead of £35, due to being on a GP exercise referal. (I think some councils have even better deals than this). all I had to do was goto teh GP and say I was fat and wanted to join a gym - as I was obviously fat enought to qualify I don't know what the criteria are but the GP as really happy about it. I just got a form that I then took along to the local gym.

Not a bad day food wise here - raost chicken tomorrow - with baked potatoes.

Anyone any ideas for healthy gravy??

Hels
• Hels - you were looking for healthy gravy - it depends on what sort of gravy you want. I don't think you can beat the meat drippings, thickened with a little flour and then mixed with hot stock and veg water and a bit of gravy salt - however it is not healthy! I was in Sainsubrys the other week and they had some Be Good To Yourself gravy mix which I bought, thinking it would be rank but it was really really nice. It is in a green tub and costs about £1 and is 20 cals and no fat.

Hello. Hope everyones had a good weekend so far. Apart from my bed breaking  I've had a good day. Breakfast was honey nut loops with ss milk, lunch was a philly splendips (bogof in sainsburys at the mo and soo yummy) and dinner was HM turkey and bacon stacks (even made my own bbq sauce for them) with HM potato wedges, mushroom and spinach, dessert was porfitterolls (oh well it is the weekend!). I have snacked rather a lot today tho, small dairy milk (one of the 15p ones) whilst in town altho I think that may have been worked off negotiating town centre on a saturday afternoon. Also, a couple of small squares of HM flapjack earlier and two ginger nuts and a mug of hot chocolate just now.

Thanks for the idea of putting snack money saved away for shoes MrsM, will be doing that :D and keeping my fingers crossed that they don't sell out before I have enough.

Anyway, I'm off to bed (have managed to botch it back together so hopefully I can sleep in it tonight without ending up in the floor! :rotfl: )

Back from dinner out and have had: about a bottle of a very nice white Rioja, black and white pudding with bacon, salad and chutney, two slices bread with pesto, sea bass with steamed veg, gratin potatoes and champ, fruit meringue and double espresso...felt rather full but drank several glasses of water as well as wine, so reasonably sober now

Hugs to all

Thanks for the help with the turkey drumstick by the way - I was at my parent's house when I was getting the recipes off and their computer wouldn't let me thanks anyone.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend
