I've really been encouraged by this thread today and have managed to get through the day without bingeing and without having enormous portions either, which is the first time in quite a while. I got a great recipe book in my local Sainsburys yesterday - they had a load of books reduced and this is the low Gi vegetarian cookbook - it was reduced from £12.99 to £2 which I thought was a bargain as there are loads of really nice recipes in it and all of them have the calories, fat, fibre, protein etc listed per portion. It isn't a diet cookbook, just based around the principles of low Gi. Dont know if it is available nationally in all Sainsburys but I think it's definitely worth a look if you see any.Jane

I did post this on another thread.. but no one picked up on it yet... enjoy...
A slight variation.... with pumpkin season nearly upon us... but can also be used for butternut squash
Pumpkin and melted onion soup
1kg of pumpkin or butternut squash
2 large onions..finely chopped
2tsp of fresh sage.. or use approx 1 tsp of dried
2 finely chopped garlic cloves
1 ltre of stock
200ml of creme fraiche (light or low fat if counting the calories)
Cut the pumpkin/squash into wedges...deseed. Roast in hot oven - 230 degrees for bout 40mins until caramelised and soft. When cool enough to handle, scoop the flesh away from the skin and set to one side. (You should have approx 450g of flesh)
Heat a little oil, with a knob of butter, and the onion. Cook until the onions are really soft and browned. Add sage and garlic...cook for further 5 mins.
Add pumpkin/squash and the stock and simmer for 15mins.
Puree soup and add the creme fraiche. Season to taste.
I made this a couple of years ago and gave a couple of portions to my aging but not yet elderly parents.
A week later my dad was at the door with two pumpkins asking me to "make more of that lovely soup" for them.
And it does freeze well.0 -
Morning everyone
Well it seems we all got through yesterday ok :T ,
Hi to all those that appeared after i had gone to bed !!
Is it me, or do many of us seem to have the same problems with our eating... it doesn't seem to be that we have been eating loads of junk...just huge portions  ....
I could live on fruit.... but if im not "thinking" about what im eating, i can easily clear a whole punnet of nectarines, 1 of peaches... and don't start me on strawberries:p -without even flinching....
As for leaving something on my plate :rotfl: that is a new talent i am having to learn,
Well here is hoping we all have a good day... extra good luck to those of you out there that have children-so have to keep extras in _pale_ .....
No doubt i will be back..now there is a threat...just off for a cuppa, and then i will try nd post some recipes ..if this machine behaves its self:rolleyes:

Morning MrsMCawber and Everyone to follow!
Its the weekend so there's no gym for me (as I only go in the week when kids are at school), just hope I can avoid snacking too much!! Its the cakes and biscuits with a cuppa thats my downfall!! so I have stopped baking the cakes so much now!!
I shall be printing out some of those lovely recipes today, thanks
I too hate goin on the scales - I only checked mine at the gym because they weighed me first at my induction and thought I would have a sneaky peek to see what they said now, otherwise if I keep checking and havent lost much it can be disheartening and offputting! So I like the "clothes are getting looser" judge at first:rotfl:
Good luck to everyone today!0 -
Morning all...have we all got our healthy eating heads on today...hope so. After just only two days i don't feel quite as sluggish (though i was really eating rubbish the week before i started this).
Anyway, i've just read some lovely posts (i love the recipe for low fat coleslaw). I agree that diet clubs cost loads and diets i've been on (and there have been a few) i get obsessed with counting calories etc and i can't stop thinking of food. By eating healthy i don't seem to do this.
Tonight we have a challenge, we are going to a friends house for a curry night. We all take a dish. I think we shall have to be very careful about portion sizes.
Me and my husband have agreed that if we go out we wont go mad but we won't miss out, as we don't go out very often.
My daughter has her swimming lesson today and my husband usually goes in at the same time with my younger daughter...shall i go in too for a bit of exercise (i hate swimming)...it seems a bit wet for my allotment...swimming or allotment?...i'll decide after my breakfast of porridge with a chopped banana and raisens.0 -
Morning all,
Hope you are all feeling very possitive again today , especially YOU recoveringspendaholic ~ yes YOU , I'm watching you , everytime you think about binging I'm the little voice on your arm saying NO! STOP NOW!:T
Come on guys , another great day ahead of us all. Possitive thinking is what is needed.
In a years time we will all be posting pictures of our slim new selves on here. Do you want to be one of those pictures? Or viewing them with regret and a chocolate bar in your hand for consolation? Your choice!
So my O/S healthy day?
Taking dogs for a 5 mile walk to dunwich ( you should see a Frog trying to walk dogs, quite hysterical) and lots of gardening ~ who needs to pay for the gym? Food wise I'll be having the chilli that was on here earlier THANKS for that Money bunny. I am making "goodies" for Mr Frog and the Tadpoles , but I have come up with a cunning plan to avoid eating them ~ I'm pretending they are meat! As a veggie I NEVER crave that , so it's easy peasy! I'm making fairy buns, flapjacks and fridge cake and they've all got beef and pork in ! :rotfl:
Have a good day all , and keep your chins up xxSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Mornin!
Off shopping in a moment whilst I'm still motivated, plenty of fresh fruit and veg me thinks. And - not very old style I know- but I love the bags of salad that Netto do, so that's on the list too. Yesterday went really well, and it's honestly thanks to coming on here. In the past I've felt it was a punishment being on a diet (I know, I know, I still call it that!), but this is more like being in a group of friends that meet up, oh, and we loose weight too. Good feeling about this one, gonna work for me I'm sure, and all of you too!!:j .
Just have to muster up the courage to write goals and stuff down in my signature. Is there a suggested lay out? I like what Michaela has written, I read that start date and I though "Yeah, me too, coz we're starting it together".
I've tried in the past doing it with a friend, but blimey aren't women competative! Not to mention quite demotivating. It's a loose loose situation with some people. I was made to feel like a smug g*t if I lost more weight, and a fat c*w if I lost less!! I like this way much better..
Have a great day. xxxxx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Well, I can see what a hot topic weight loss is. I have had more pms about this issue than I have about any other topic as a board guide, most of which have been about this thread, and the other board guides have had them too. If I tell you that EVERY ONE wants it to be done differently that is no exaggeration!
So here are a few more specifics about what this thread is and isn't in the hope that there is some middle ground that everyone can be on board with.
It is NOT a weight loss club. There is no membership to this thread and everyone is very welcome.
Recipes are welcome. It would help if they were highlighted in some way - eg by putting the recipe name in the title of the post, or making it a different colour, so they're easy to spot without trawling through lots of posts. It would also be helpful if people could copy them into the recipe index. (I'll post a link later.)
In order that it doesn't get too unwieldy, because there are SO many people interested, it would be useful if people didn't make LOTS of posts in the same day; perhaps one at the start of the day and one towards the end to say how you got on for example would prevent the thread becoming difficult to read for people who can't get here as often as others.
And for clarification, the other weight loss threads were closed because they were not money saving old style. It wasn't one board guide's decision - we were ALL following the rules set down by Martin and the team. While the threads were being closed, we were talking behind the scenes about HOW to accomodate this issue without it straying from the ethos and purpose of the board and we hope this thread provides a balance.
This thread is from all 3 of your board guides. I have volunteered to monitor it because I'm overweight and I'm hoping the thread will help me too.
Here are the rules on copyright and medical advice. If you're posting recipes, in particular, please read this.
I hope this helps everyone. Thanks.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
