Thanks Frogga! I think it always helps to feel part of something when losing weight. I too have a lot to lose, 5 stone to be exact so i am here for the long haul! My main point is to cut my portion sizes, I will use this to start off, I always feel more comfortable when I don't have too many things to focus on and I think this is a good starting point as my portions do tend to be a little on the generous side sometimes :j Started my weightloss journey, its neverending!! :j

OK. Well today breakfast was a small (honestly!) portion of bran flakes, plus one piece of toast & marmalade. Lunch should have been a cheese roll, but I succombed to the new school menu and had a portion of salmon with new potatoes and broccoli ( this new steaming thing is great - food looks and tastes really good!). Supper is to be spag. bol. - and this is where I need to watch my portion size!
Used to weigh myself weekly, then daily (a la Flylady!) but actually, since getting on the scales and being totally shocked at the start of this month I haven't been brave enough since! How often do most of you check the scales?Resolution:

Hi beemuzed
I weigh in once a week....if i do it monthly, i end up eating too much for the first couple of weeks and then half starving for the second 2 - to catch up:rolleyes:
When i do bolognaise... i cut down my portion of pasta... but steam some finely shredded cabbage and mix the 2 together..so you still get the carbs, and still have a decent sized portion in your dish too :T-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I only weigh monthly as the scales and I don't get on very well so we try to avoid each other!:rotfl:Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

I know they say you shouldn't weigh every day, but I seem to do better when I do. Weighing (much!) more rarely sees me going way out of control before I notice. I'm just grateful that my scales aren't the 'speak your weight' variety - mine would just say 'no coach parties please!' every morningEek! Someone's stolen my signature! :eek:0

Rossy, its very true what you said about being part of something ( without it being regimented :P ) helping to lose weight... when I was in the little local co-op today, I felt tired and fed up and considering buying many foods of cruddiness, but I stopped and desisted because, silly as this may sound, I thought " Oh no, what would the OS board think of me .. " LOL !!!
So all things considering, did ok today.
Breakfast : special K ( because I like it not cos its " diet " !)
Couple of digestives and a cuppa with the crumblies
Lunchish ( at 4pm ! ) sandwich made with wholemeal bread, Branston, cheese & cucumber ( generous with the cucumber, miserly with the cheese ), handful of grapes, apple and no added sugar squash.
Dinner ( in about 5 mins :P ) 2 pittas stuffed with leftover lamb, spicy chutney, cress, cucumber, tomato, beetroot and a squeeze of lemon. Apple juice. Strawberries for afters.
Can't be arsed to make the broccoli cheese tonight but that will wait until tomorrow.

Right, this is a fabulous recipe for chili. It's very low fat, and packed with veg. I looooove it! Seriously tasty and almost buttery. I always lick the ladle and can't resist more... it also freezes very very well. Good for cold evenings when you want something to fill you up.
for two, although you might need rice with it
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon olive oil (do use this and not a low-fat spray - it tastes far better)
1 small onion, sliced
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1 diced carrot
1/2 red pepper, diced
1/2 green pepper, diced
75g button mushroons
1/2 cooking apple, peeled, cored and grated
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
200g can tomatoes (I always add 400g as it's a bit yummier)
200g can mixed beans in spicy sauce (again, I add 400g!)
salt, pepper
Fry the onion, garlic, carrot, peppers and mushrooms for 5 mins.
Stir in the apple and chili powder and cook for 2 more mins.
Add the tomatoes and mixed beans and cover it, then simmer for 20 mins.
Remove the lid and simmer for 10 more mins to thicken it.
If you use large cans, it will make lots, more than enough for 2. You might not even need rice or anything else to go with it.Old-styler, crafter and freebie junkie!Frogga's Amazing Weight Loss Campaign: Member no.20 since 2/9/07 -- lost 10lbWedding bells 04/10/08

This is the original recipe :
450g ( 1lb ) mixed fruit
125g ( 4oz ) Soft brown sugar
275ml ( 1/2 pint ) strong tea
3 tsp baking powder
250g (9oz) wholemeal flour
1 egg
Soak fruit overnight in the tea. Mix in the beaten egg, then the flour mixed wih the baking powder. Mix well. Divide into floured tins [kitty note : I use one 2lb loaf tin which is just right ! ] and bake at 180C/350F/gas mark 4 for 2-3 hours.
Now, my variations : I have cut the sugar right down to two level tablespoons and this has had no negative impact on the flavour whatsoever ! One brave day I'm going to try to cut it out altogether, as tbh I reckon the dried fruit is probably sweet enough on its own.
I use slightly less flour - a round 1/2lb, or even a bit less on occasions when I've been running out... again, no negative impact, just makes nice and moist, albeit less bread-ish. I have never made this with white flour - would advise always wholemeal, I don't think it would be quite as nice with white flour.
Also, I found by cooking the loaf at the above temperatures for the time stated, it overcooked. So I start it off at that for the first half hour then turn it down for the rest of the cooking time. I don't think I've ever cooked it for 3 whole hours either ! A couple of times its started getting a bit too " done " on top before the rest is cooked, do the usual and bung a bit of foil on if this happens.
So, nice and simple and not sweet and claggy like rich fruit cake etc !" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0
