  • Morning all and thanks for the encouragement Frogga - it has certainly helped me this morning as I woke up STARVING and in a bad mood with DD1 who didn't come in until after 3am and then overslept for her Saturday job so I had to take her in the car... I came home from running her and made two slices of toast with Flora and light philadelphia, which, normally, would be the start of a bad eating day but I just ate it with a cup of tea and came on here and now the urge to overeat has receded thanks to all the interesting and inspiring posts! Eating for today:

Breakfast - two slices of toast with flora and light philadelphia
Lunch - leftover cold pork with hm low fat coleslaw; strawberries and fresh pineapple
Dinner - Roast dinner, probably roast chicken, mashed carrot and swede, cabbage, green beans and mushy peas instead of potatoes, gravy; Activia yoghurt
Snacks - will try to limit these today as I had the toast for breakfast, so probably just an apple and a pear.

I am going to have a go at Money Bunny's chilli later and freeze it in portions. It will be a good standby for when I get too hungry to wait for the meal to cook. That is one of my problems - I get hungry and then while I am cooking the meal I pick at bits of bread and other things so that by the time the meal is ready I am already stuffed! I am going to do the veg for tonight's roast dinner in the steamer in a little while and then just micro it for with tonight's meal - I know it's not the best thing but it is a coping strategy which does work for me.

Hope you all have a great healthy eating day!

BTW Mrs Macawber - where abouts in Germany are you? I used to live in Aachen and also Herten (a small town not far from Gelsenkirchen). I found the cakes and the bread (particularly the nussbrotchen and the pflaumkuchen) just wonderful and the fleischwurst was just irresistible. I think that when I lived there that was the start of my putting on weight as I never seemed to stop eating!!

    Good morning all,

After being unceremoniously woken by my cat jumping on my chest and simulating angina my lie-in has gone to pot. So, I will trot off to the farmers market for a look round and get some nice veggies for tea.

Today will probably be quite simple as OH is working until 7 so the usual weetabix with skimmed milk and soup for lunch and lots of cleaning as we have had the plasterers in!

Haven't decided about tea yet but will probably involve something thats part-made in the freezer like veggie chilli or a chick pea curry.

    Good morning everyone!

I got up early this morning and done a 2 mile walk around my area. That gmap pedometer that Martin posted is fantastic because my little one from argos is rubbish!

I'm sipping on my smoothie I made which contains 2 bananas, a handful of strawberries and a nectarine. I made it with water and 2 tablespoons of natural yoghurt and it is yum.

When I go to the market, I buy all those cheap bananas and then freeze them. that way I always have a base for a smoothie and it's nice and cold because the banana is frozen.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

Just found this thread.. Not had time to read all the posts though yet.
I would love to join in. Have been dieting for 25 years on and off and after all that heavier than ever. I am so fed up with diets, been to all slimming clubs.

I have decided that the only way to beat this weightproblem is what I have read on here, smaller portions, more excercise, cooking from scratch, which I do already anyway and to stop stressing about it all. My problem is I don't feel full, I can eat and eat and still not feel full. And evenings.. after the kids go to bed, some time for myself and lovely food.

I love soup and am away to go and make some in a minute. I will make soup so I have something to eat in the evenings when I get the snack attack, and keep my fingers busy by coming on here!! Looking forward to reading all your tips and successes!!

"They" say the best way to judge portion size is by the size of the palm of your hand. Open your hand out infront of you , palms up. Now the amount of protien you eat should be no bigger than the size of your palm on one hand and your carbs no bigger than the palm on the other. I'm stuffed as Frogs don't have hands!!!!!!!:rotfl:

ooooooo and as for evening snacking ~ brush your teeth very well after dinner , noone wants to eat with minty taste in their mouth!

  • Good morning all! Had a lovely evening with our friends, dinner was great.

I made a really nice salad to start with:

3 peppers, chopped in small chunks
1 red onion cut in 8ths with root attached
1 fennel cut in 8ths, root attached
    1 punnet cherry toms
    1 can chick peas
    1 large handful watercress
    1 large handful basil, chopped
1/2 head garlic, separated but not peeled
    1/2 lemon juiced
    salt + pepper
    olive oil

Roast the veg in a bit of olive oil; drain the chick peas and rinse.
Mix together the veg - peel the garlic cloves - chick peas, and basil. Add in the lemon juice and 1 tsp olive oil and season to taste. Serve warm on top of the watercress, 4 servings. Can add courgettes, aubergines, mushrooms.

Then pea risotto over a baked field mushroom, then butterscotch pudding for dessert.

I only had water to drink; when friends come over I usually get Shloer but that has a lot of sugar in it.

Had porridge today for brekkie, salad for lunch, not sure what for dinner.

That must be on the same lines as dividing your plate in three (mentally) 1/3rd protein, 1/3rd carbs and half the plate with veg/salad

Will try the teeth brushing, thanks but how do you stop the hunger pangs, drinking water doesn't help for me
  • Years ago my friend's Mum used to make what she called her diet soup. It was so easy and I loved it and still make it nowadays when I am "on my diet" as opposed to eating everything in sight. It is easy to make and filling and has the added benefit (in my case) of - erm - helping with regularity!

    You need

2 litres of tomato juice (value is fine or use cheap passata - actually passata is nicer IMO)
    1 litre of water
    4 beef or veg oxos
1 box of whitworths dried vegetables
salt and pepper and mixed dried herbs

Boil the water and soak the veg for a little while - I usually do it before I go to bed at night and just leave it.
put the passata or juice, veg and its soaking water, the oxos and salt and pepper and pinch of herbs in a big pan and bring to the boil and simmer for about half an hour. For some reason this doesn't taste as nice or have the same texture if you use fresh veg.

The calories for the whole lot is about 160 - the box of veg is 58 and the passata or juice is about 100 or so. I like it with a bit of grated parmesan on the top and I have it with a wholemeal roll. It is amazing how filling it is - I think the dried veg must keep on swelling in your stomach!

  • The problem with soup for me is that it NEEDS lots of yummy bread to soak it up with
