    Hi everyone,

I've just had a rummage through Christmas gift bags. Kept labels on from last year so I knew who could get them this year IYSWIM... Any from my family last year go to OH's family this year and vice versa. ;)

OK, off to search for cupcake recipes that don't need self raising flour or bicarb etc... Did I mention my cupboards are bare?! :rotfl:

DNMS, do you think your dd would know if you took the packaging off/was already cooking? I don't think I could taste the turkey/chicken difference. :o
  • Gosh I really don't know but it's such a risk. If she's not OK with it I'll just bite the bullet and buy one now. We had a terrible Christmas day a couple of years ago because I forgot to get pigs in blankets. I want to avoid this for everyone's sake. If I tell her now she might be fine with it or say no she really wants turkey. Paying an extra £4-5 is definitely the lesser of the 2 evils!

  • Hello, hope you don't mind me joining in :)

I want to keep track of the daily things I do to save money and remind me I can actually do this!

    Today I managed to:

    - download receipt hog and scan in ten receipts
    - get a free Waitrose latte on the dog walk instead of popping into costa
    - get £7 off my grocery shop (using a voucher that has been sent to the person who lived in this house before me...cheeky!)
    - track everything I spent on a budget app (good budget - the free version)

Feeling positive as I sit here watching the kids decorating the tree and listening to Christmas music x

Yeah, I know what you mean, DNMS. Definitely not worth it if you are going to be on tenterhooks all day. I have a feeling you are going to find one very soon though.

Hi Allotrope - welcome along! Ha ha, I would definitely use the old owner's vouchers - the people who lived here before me were so rude and left a note saying 'pass our post to number 1' - not even a please or thank you and no redirection ever set up!! I still get it and now just send them all straight back, even if they look important! I read their garden centre magazine though. :D

I've decided to make brownies rather than cupcakes given my lack of baking powder etc.
  • Hi all

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I am going to look for that book LaE I need all the help I can get at the moment. And Foxgloves you have made me realise that although I get up early I have been getting later and later getting ready on a morning which is silly because it just makes me late which in turn makes me more stressed and anxious.

There are things that I can do to feel better about work.

dms I am following your turkey hunt. We had a couple of Christmasses when DS1 was suffering badly with anxiety and I decided it was easier to just try and go along with how he wanted things.

And well done Mr LaE on those hours!

    Hi Allotrope & welcome :)
This afternoon has been lovely. Family left around 2pm and then after that we've watched Arthur Christmas, the kids have had hot chocolate with marshmallows, we've had a little bit of baileys type drink and all cwtched up on the sofa covered in blankets :) Nice
Now time to get 4 of us bathed out of one lot of hot water :)
Dh's lunch is prepared for work tomorrow :)
Kids cheques written for school dinners, they only have these in the Christmas dinner week and as we are away on Friday I only need to pay for 4 days not 5 which is good :)

Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
  • I have dusted sitting room. Actually dusted. In real life, not pretending.

I am in awe of myself.

Now floor to do and then tree can go up. On a frugal theme it is the old fake tree but it truly looks good and saves 50 on a real tree and we are all outside most of the time. Anyway, I have dusted.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring? I may go mad and clean the kitchen- nah, just joking

Have a good week all. I have s horrendous work week ahead but at least it is work.

Hi allatrop newbie, welcome to the most awesome thread.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening All

I have worked all weekend so not much time for here which is always sad :)

One big thing I have just sat and done, I have applied for a joint account with First Direct for us. And been accepted :) They give you £100 to switch too so that's a nice bonus.

Determined Good luck with your YS Turkey hunt. One quick question, have you looked at the frozen ones? Last year we had a lovely big bird. I got a big one because my OH lives for Turkey sandwiches. It cost £18. But if we'd chosen a regular sized one to feed 4 they were only £9. That was in Mr S.

First Direct are fab - never had any problems with them :) And check out their regular saver too, if you feel so inclined, as the interest rate is still better than most. :)
