What small DFW things will you do this week? w/c 05/12

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Morning all

Thanks to 1LL for starting the thread

Feeling fraught and sad again today. Just realising that I hate my job so much at the moment. I'm going to ask my line manager about working from home some days. At least then I don't have to listen to some of the male cow poop that goes on here.

Had a good chat about finances to OH. He seemed surprised that I want to start cutting back more, but my reasoning is that if we do it gradually, it won't be a shock if we really need to.

    Today's mission
    • B from stores. Dinner out with friend. WILL NOT DRINK. WILL ORDER SOMETHING CHEAP. Please nag me about this through the day!
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • OH at his bro's and work so heating/lights etc off all day - done
Really nothing doing today. Work and then straight to Manchester afterwards! (Really CBA - hate Manchester!)

    Have a good one all

Morning all, Its cloudy here but much milder, I only have one jumper on at the minute (oh and my scarf of course!)

Lots to do but definitely needing a :coffee: or two first! ;)

    Today's list
    * Kids had free breakfast at school :)
    * Gym done but not class as my wrist is painful and think I need to be careful. :)
    * Picked up dh's prescription :)
    * Record mileage :)
    * Check banking/spreadsheet :)
    * Clean kitchen & bathrooms :) using stardrops
    * Make two chicken curries from stores One in the slow cooker :) and the other one is cooked and tastes amazing even if I do say so myself!! ;)
    * Make up a ys jelly, will put them into little tuperwares so that the kids can have them with lunches this week :)
    * Run dishwasher on quick wash :)
    * Run washing machine on quick 30 degree wash :)
    * Hang decs on the kids tree as they've lost interest! :)would usually decorate all the way round the tree but couldn't be bothered so just done what can be seen and pushed the tree further into the corner! :)
    * Make soup using stock I'd frozen and some leeks I got ys'd on Saturday This will have to go onto tomorrows list
    * Clean and tidy fridge - means nothing goes to waste. :)added some ys mushrooms into both curries, the end of some spinach into one also. ;)

That's enough of a starter, better get cracking.

Have a good day all, hopefully I'll be back to add loads more to the list :)

    ** Checked fpl/lucky/numberplate :)
** Checked tcb/quidco and claimed little payouts on both :)
** Book people flyer came through the door, had a quick look through, saw a couple of book series that my eldest might like, but unlike the old days when I'd have ordered them, I've looked on our library site and ordered the first book in each of the series :)
** Saved the hoover from the bin as dh couldn't get it to work at the weekend, it was a blocked pipe! Upstairs all clean now :)
** Ironed only what needed it, rest was just hung and put away :)
** Cut open a bottle of talc, will finish off this bottle after my shower :) (this was bought at least 8yrs ago! there is another one in the use up box too!)
** Microwaved the rechargeable moisture absorbers for the wardrobes :)
** Asked my mum to look in her cupboards for some cards that she'd bought yrs ago for putting cross stitch in when we used to do it. She's going to dig them out for me and is looking forward to having space in her cupboard :) Will see what sizes come over and then make some cards up for birthdays etc to use up some of the fabric and threads I have, I used to do this when I was still at school and I'm now nearing 40  So this really is a use up job!

Sorry to read how bad you are feeling Clf, I hope that the conversation goes well with your line manager. Good news that your oh is on board with the mse. Hopefully dinner with your friend will help lift your mood tonight.

Thanks 1LL - I'm more angry that I'm feeling so crappy about it. It's not the general anxiety that I was suffering from. It's work pure and simple. And it's not worth feeling rubbish!!

    Hi Monday Money Savers,
Well, I'm not going to be getting the results of my scans until the back end of next week, so the worry continues, although I must say I am really super organised with jobs, especially festive prep, because I deal with stress in one area of my life by being mega-organised in others. 'When the going gets tough, the Tough get planning' & all that........
Anyway, today's bits of money saving include:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Finished the last of a lipstick with lipbrush & finally threw the (truly) empty case away, instead of throwing away a third of the product left in the lower section.
*Forgot to set the washer last night so put it on early this morning to get at least some of the cycle done on cheap tariff. Re-loaded for a cheap wash tonight. Too cold to dry laundry outside, the ice has only just cleared, so it's on the heated airer which is helping raise the chilly conservatory temperatures a little.
*Did rubber pork. It did a roast dinner last night, I'm doing hot pork & apple sauce cobs tonight with home made coleslaw, there's also enough for spicy pork rice & curry sauce tomorrow, a sandwich & some chunks frozen for a stew at a later date. The birds (& neighbour's cat) enjoyed the chopped up fat.
*Updated December budget & grocery budget.
    *Did a survey.
*Postman brought a John Lewis loyalty voucher for a free coffee & cake this month....which is timely as we are aiming to go there this week.
*Baked Christmas cake as the fruit had been soaking in booze for 24 hours & was ready. House smells lovely. Have divided up leftover dried fruit such as apricots, pineapple, etc, into little plastic snack boxes for work snacks.
*No downstairs heating on until later, except for bathroom towel radiator.
*Bit of healthy free fresh air walking down to the postbox to post my Christmas cards.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & breakfast.
*Went carefully through my Christmas planning list to check progress of gifts. Almost everything is bought & wrapped. I have 3 more gifts to buy, but they won't involve actual money as I have a stash of vouchers earned from Ipsos surveys & will use those. Then there are 4 jobs I need to do to finish home-made gifts.....things like make fudge, bottle my fruit vodka, making lemon curd, etc. Have written in my diary when I need to do these things so nothing gets overlooked.
*Check online maps for meeting venue I am at tomorrow. I have a feeling there may be a little bit of free street parking nearby & I want to get that if possible as the nearest car park will be £4.50.
*Carry on with my blanket (made from leftover sock wool). I've started crocheting around the edges of the little squares ready for crocheting them together. So that's free leisure, as is watching some TV on iplayer & reading my book.
*Oh, & I've paid all my loose change into the shrapnel jar.
So that's my money-saving efforts for today.
Hope everyone's got off to at least a reasonable start to the week. CLF - Sorry to heaar work is crap at the moment. Been there. It can become all encompassing, even in your home time, especially if there are difficult individuals involved. Stay strong. Your integrity is a wonderful thing & needs to be maintained even in the face of crapness!

    Evening all :)
Thanks for the start 1LL :)
Sorry you are feeling rubbish Carrie. Hope your Line Manager agrees to your request. Having been a line manager in the not too distant past, I would want to to be sorting out the cows poop as well

    So, today I have/ will:
    Dog walks x 2
Walked to the post office, posted 3 ebay items sold over the weekend. Popped into my sales unit while I was out. Not much seems to have sold in there. Also went to the toy shop and bought something just right for youngest GD for Christmas, so pleased about that :) No other inspiration though - better hope for some soon, as I have virtually nothing bought
DD and her little one turned up shortly after I got back this morning, so not much else done :o
Sold 2 more ebay items, so need to pack at least one for posting tomorrow (both if the second buyer pays up!)
Bit of shopping in Aldi, as DD wanted to go there. I prefer Lidls!
    Still to do:
Dinner to cook - chicken drumsticks with roasted veg
Check for surveys, should have done this before really!
