Number 155 declaring £144.05. I'm surprised it was not more, but it's a start.

I did badly in January due to a big purchase I made. But I'm feeling confident about February being a more frugal month.

Number 78 here. Form submitted for January update. Happy to report £1313.73 saved this month.

So happy to have found this thread. Towards the end of last year I decided somewhat unexpectedly to extend the lease on my flat. Mainly due to the rate of HSBC's 10 year fixed rate mortgage at the time. However, my finances weren't in the best state in my opinion. I'd just applied for a new credit card to stooze some more money. So I decided to be more appealing to the bank by clearing my other two credit cards and clearing my student loan to increase my take home pay. I then used the rest of my savings to start the lease extension (but I will put that back when I draw down my equity release loan) and to pay the early repayment charge for breaking my fix (it was worth it). I got the money I wanted from the bank at the rate I wanted but also zeroed my savings. So my goal for this year is to rebuild my safety net.

The accountability of reporting in each month and everyone else's stories and tips is so motivating. Thanks Slowlyfading for running this and to everyone for their contributions.

Well done to everyone for their January efforts :T:T.

I am going to start February off with £823.02 which is a really good sum for me. I hope to get £1000 saved this month as the next few months are going to be really tough for me :p;).

Wishing everyone all the best with their saving in February :grouphug:

Due to a little bit extra in my pay two days ago, I've already saved my £1k for Feb. Decided to do the save first and spend what's left rather than the other way round thanks to this thread.

Will try to keep up the momentum as the month progresses as there may be months later in the year when getting to £1k will be difficult.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • I have opened 2 new regular savers this month so that's £550 in them, plus £200 in my htb isa, but I used some of my matured regular saver from last year to pay for some xmas bits and pay the remaining balance off my holiday so technically I am down £920 this month :(

So I won't declare anything this month, but I should be back in the positive numbers next month :)
