I didn't say (or at least didn't mean) to say talking to people with shared interests is weird but randomly talking to people who are going for a run or cycle or reading a book is odd. Would you just wave someone running down to talk to them?
I wouldn't interrupt a stranger who was out running, but if I enjoyed running I would do a course and chat to the other runners and go out running with them. I did do this - a few injuries have stopped me from running but am still friends with one of the girls I met that way.0 -
Completely agree, sometimes I don't know what I like doing and I procrastinate too. I have tried a few things like sewing, exercise classes in the past but it is hard to figure out what I might truly enjoy.
Trying to figure out what you might truly enjoy sounds like another procrastination technique. Honestly, just try things and see if you like them - mostly you won't know till you try.
As a child I dreamed of learning to ride a horse. I've been on a horse 4 times as an adult spread over a number of years. First three were a disaster one way or another and the final one was ok but just done to prove I could conquer the fear from the first three times.
I also loved the idea of ice skating, and after a few goes as a teenager a friend talked me into having lessons with her when I was in my early twenties. First lesson I slipped over and tore the ligaments in my wrist badly enough they stuck me in plaster. I didn't complete the course funnily enough.
Conversely I never dreamed of hiking, but I allowed a friend who was a keen hiker to talk me into giving it a try in my early twenties and I LOVE it. I had a few years away from it when I moved in my late twenties to somewhere I didn't know anyone and I really missed it. Found a group to do a few walks with there when I finally crawled out of my shell about a year before I moved to London, and now I do loads of hiking through Spice.0 -
