CCL - turning down the works do definitely counts.

Bob - there is a saying along the lines of 'a tooth lost for every child'. When I was expecting DD I badly broke a tooth eating some toast.

nannygladys - I think you should have the coffee in town with your friend. Turning down an invitation was more aimed at people who have several events going on this month.

indigowarrior - I hear a lot of bad things about storage heaters.

Will pop back later in the day with exact spends for today. Tomorrow should have been a NSD but I asked DH to get me some chocolate on his way home so £1.40 spent.

I have finished all my Christmas shopping and have wrapped it all, all cards are written too. I have come in £80 under what I had saved so that has gone to savings. I have to be super organised at this time of year as kids have birthdays (today for DD) very close to Christmas.

Yesterday was a NSD and today should be too. I've been to the gym this morning and then will walk to and from a shift for 2nd job later. Don't start until 4.30 so plan until then is doing a little packing and making more christmas cards.

  • Eager E Home reared turkey - tell me more - do you do it commercially or is it just for you?

    Hi LAGL

It started off just for us and a few friends and then progressed to work colleagues but in the last few years we have just done enough for us and a few friends.

This year we have 15 which could potentially be culled but we lost a lot of our females this year (some were killed by a fox and some wandered off to hatch their eggs and never returned) so we are keeping some of them this year so we can breed from them next year.

I find that people don't always want to pay more than what the supermarkets charge even though ours are 'proper' free range and are reared for longer making the meat much tastier.

If we didn't both work full time I would like to do it on a larger scale but alas we don't have the time.

I like to have 2 over Xmas/New Year holidays and another one at Easter. One year we had about 10 spare and ate them all throughout the year - I love turkey!!
  • Seaside - sorry to hear about your friends relative.

FurryBeast - I add yellow split peas to a tomato sauce to make a lentil Bolognese. It always comes out lovely.

dolly - Happy Birthday to DD. I also have Xmas/New Year children - DS' is 15th Dec and DD's is 1st Jan plus mine is 27th Dec!! What a palaver!!

Yesterday was not a NSD as brought some tights and hair grips which are needed for the Xmas party tonight plus 2 hairbrushes as DD leaves them all around the house for the dogs to eat!!

Today is a spend day due to Xmas party and will have drinks to buy, have also spent in the supermarket today - mainly squash, soya milk and normal milk.

I have a confession - my list of Xmas outings was not complete!!
I also have my Allotment xmas drinks next week and we were all planning on going to see the local village panto next week as well. These were planned in advance but I forgot about them. Naughty EE.
Lets hope I get invited to something else and can say no!!!

    Have a good weekend everyone!
  • Sorry for posting twice but forgot to comment to Bob.

Have you seen this - http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1781.aspx?CategoryID=74. It's quite handy to know what treatments come in each band.

My dentist is great, if you go for a check up its £19.70 and if you need a filling then another appointment is booked and on that occasion you are only charged £34.20 to take you up the £53.90 charge.

This is how NHS dentists work but I do wonder if some might charge what they can get away with.
  • Afternoon all, another sfd here - spent the morning tidying up the garden at the front of the house and cleaning out the chickens - this afternoon Im going to treat myself to cleaning windows!

Eager E - thanks for the turkey explanation - we have a bit of ground with our house and Im am contemplating how best to use it - hadnt thought of rearing our own christmas turkey but will ponder some more :)

Right work to do - Christmas Icicles being hung by DH at the front of the house and kids on homework! Then Im off with DD to another swimming gala - may take a G&T if I didnt have to drive!

    Love to all,

Well have been shopping, first time I've been to a town centre in what feels like ages.

We bought DD a pair of Nike football boots for PE from the CS for £5.95, these will be handed down to DS when she has done with them. Also got a DVD for £1 and rented one from the library for £1 (this was before we bought the other one:(), bought DD 3 cans of dry shampoo at 98p each and some hand cream for £1.95 (she has eczema so needs to keep one in her bag).

Me and DH got a Boots meal deal for lunch and I got some nail polish remover but we paid with points. Used my new M&S credit card to buy some £1.50 crisps and used a 500 points voucher (just taken out the card for the £35 in vouchers). Gave DD and her friend £30 for spending and lunch for her birthday, she has given be £3 change. Also bought 2 weeks bus pass for DD at £19.

We then bought food for 5 of us for this evening, my budget was £12 but we ended up spending £16.09 plus the £1.50 crisps above. Woops:eek:

    Afternoon everyone!

Well I have officially entered hibernation mode I think. Last night dodged the work's Christmas party... have today fought the urge to go out impulse shopping... Have to keep reminding myself I have stuff in to use. Shopping on a Saturday became habit - and the amount of food waste I had was shocking... Mostly salad stuff. So now I buy a small amount and it has to all go.

I'd allotted today as a 'Spend Day' but it's actually been another NSD - I've stayed in, cosied up in the warm.

    Today = NSD number 3

A night in tonight with a film and something with fish in <again!> haha!

Just popping in to report my first NSD of the month! I went for a 2 hour horse ride today which was fab but paid some weeks ago so technically it has been a NSD. Off to a friend's later for some festive nibbles but no funds required.
