• Morning all,
Did a big shop last night - we were out of quite a few essentials and it may also include a bottle of Gin, tonic and two lemons :D. NSD today so progress :)
Bob - that filling does sound expensive - my white filling at a private dentist was £72 a couple of weeks ago. Also depending how big the filling was you risk breaking the tooth and further decay in the hole if you leave it which could be even more pricey to fix. You can get temporary filling kits from a chemist but these are only to protect the tooth for very short term use as if you plug the hole there is a risk of infection in the cavity if bacteria is in there when you plug it I think. Can you find a cheaper dentist or is there an emergency clinic at the hospital or something?

Eager E Home reared turkey - tell me more - do you do it commercially or is it just for you?

    Love to all, LAGL xx

Thanks thrifty I had a feeling it might be you who knew:D

I will soak them well, and not admit to the Best Before date. Daal galore here we come (Why I bought a 2kg bag I will never know:eek:)

I'm sure they'll keep longer, can't get any drier than dry :p.

You could also use them for easy humus (I just add garlic, coriander, lemon juice concentrate, paprika, cumin, usually omit the tahini), chickpea and sweetcorn burgers, falafel etc. That reminds me I got a bag too :rotfl: (but only 500g)

bob - the toffee thing happened to me some weeks ago. A complete inlay came out! I was in work and luckily my dentist is down the road so I managed to get an emergency appointment after work. I am private (though I am on a dental plan) and it cost me £95 for a "temporary" replacement which the emergency guy fitted as I am seeing my own dentist for my "half-yearly" this month. He said my own dentist will probably want to fit a new inlay so could be expensive! I must say that my tooth started to feel a bit "nervy" that afternoon and I don't think I could have lasted it out to my next appointment.

Sad news yesterday afternoon - I have posted the full story on my diary but a good friend was taking out an elderly relative and was involved in an accident with a people-carrier. My friend is ok, just badly bruised, but her relative died later in hospital. Such an awful thing to happen, especially so near to Christmas. :( My friend is the nicest person you could wish to meet, always sees the best in people and so helpful and her elderly relative was very active even for her very advanced age - still played bridge. My friend was still in shock when I saw her last night. Obviously we have cancelled our Xmas night out tonight and will try to re-arrange in January.

It ended up a NSD yesterday and today is looking the same. All the shopping I have done today was just for a friend who is away from work at the moment and asked me to pick up two handbags which were on offer at half-price at House of Fraser and she will settle with me on her return. So some cashback for my card.

    Enjoy your weekend everyone. x

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Afternoon All :)

Today is my last spendy day for a bit. I finished my Xmas shopping, and spent £100 today. However, that included a Starbucks, Parking money and petrol to get to town. All of this has been budgeted for.

What a difference from Christmas' gone by, where i would either spend like there was no tomorrow, or struggle to afford something because i hadn't budgeted.

Now i have various 'Sinking Funds' for different things, and Christmas was one. So i set a goal of £500, had that saved by October, and so far I've spent £400.
That will be put towards extra food (guessing about £20) and postal charges to send my mums and sisters presents, and Christmas activities.

Its amazing what MSE has done for my finances!

Seasidegal- sorry to hear about your friends relative. Keeping you all in my thoughts.

FurryBeastOz- that reminds me of a recipe i made, using split yellow peas. I forgot to soak the overnight, spend 2 hours making this amazing recipe...and it tasted like eating little pebbles :rotfl:

Calling14- i hope the MOT goes well! It's mine in January, and I'm a little nervous!

Bob- I'd definitely go for the filling. Very annoying for you, and quite expensive. But i imagine it'll get more and more painful if you leave it 4 weeks. And you dont want to have pain over Xmas/New Year with the possibility of no dentists being open when you need them in desperation.

Have a great day everyone! I'm off to wrap the presents and have a cup of tea :)

    Hi all,

I have a day off work :j and am putting my feet up for most of it :)

    So this month:-

SFDs:- I will do 15 as have 5 outings planned - Christmas market trip, xmas meals with 4 different groups of friends (although one is at someone's house)

Donation:- I already donate to several charities monthly but I have just sent some money to RSPCA for their Christmas appeal.

Pay debts:- I have paid the minimum so far and will use my December pay packet to clear the rest of my debt. However, as soon as this chunk is gone, I have the loan that I have just taken out for my new roof (which is about an hour away from being finished!)

Christmas:- I had budgeted £300 and have spent £218 so far, so will aim for £280.

Invitations:- I will turn down any more invitations.

Groceries:- I am down to £80 on my grocery budget so don't think I can get that any smaller.

Hope you're all having good days :)

Seasidegal - What a terrible thing to happen. I do hope you're friend will be ok.

Bob – Hope your tooth gets a bit better and doesn't cost too much

Spent £12.55 today on a whole lorne sausage, potato scones and a couple of other items to take away with us. The sausage and scones should see us through quite a few breakfasts next week and my friend from Liverpool loves them.

I don't have any nights out planned. I always feel everywhere is crowded and noisy and I like peace and quiet. My birthday is the week before Christmas and we always celebrate it mid January. Feels a bit like the Queen, having two birthdays.

Packing all done, Christmas tree decorated, presents wrapped, cards written.

Off on holiday. Ilovetea -Suitably wrapped up and the ice grips for the shoes are in the bag just in case. So looking forward to it.

    Will keep in touch.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

    Evening all,

Seasidegal - sorry to hear about your friend's accident. Sending out lots of hugs.

Bob - Where's the tooth fairy (filling fairy!) when you need one!?! If getting it done means you can enjoy Christmas (minus toffee eating!) then get it done. I always think your health comes first.

    Today = NSD number 2

Forgot to mention the charity pledge. I give some to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund not World Wrestling Federation lol) and a Health Charity. Not loads but it's something.

So it's only the 2nd of the month and I'm already getting comments about my weird combo lunches haha! (ie whatever is in my fridge/cupboard combined!). It tasted ok! I have a mountain of canellini beans to shift so it's time to get creative!

Have a good evening folks! :)
