    Hi everyone

Wow - lots to catch up on over the past couple of days! So much easier with a weekly thread :D

Hope things are ok Dawn and you sleep better tonight.
    Congrats KatyAnn :A

So...I bought dried mung beans and dried chickpeas because I am so sick of the amount of recycling we generate with all the tins... I just don't think it seems worth the hassle though :o Send your tips!

We're off on a date tonight  Ts vouchers at the ready

    Catch up properly tomorrow
  • La e I've been a dried bean enthusiast for a while now. I cook the whole lot then freeze in 200 gram batches then just get out a bag on the day I need them :)
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2025: £87.12
    NSD March: YTD: 35
Grocery spend challenge March £253.38/£285 £20/£70 Eating out
    GC annual £449.80/£4500
    Eating out budget: £55/£420
    Extra cash earned 2025: £195
  • I second what determined said cook the whole bag and freeze in little bags (good use of some cheap bags I got off the market that I didn't realise we're quite so small)

I also sometime chuck them in from frozen ;)

Agree on the catching up is so much easier on a weekly thread ;) not been on much this week, to post at least. Congrats to Katy-Ann be kind to yourself.

Lots going on here, will update when I can. Keeping the :money: faith at all steps.
  • Well I sent DS2 back to bed at 8.30am this morning, the poor kid is shattered and looked terrible. Mock GCSE exams, football, open evenings for sixth forms, GCSE assessments, study clubs at lunchtime. I am usually quite strict about being at school but I think he is going to end up in a heap. He slept for 9 hours.

DS1 has had his hospital treatment for another 8 weeks. £4 parking and £11 for lunch - which was not very nice. Annoyed with myself for not taking food like I usually do. Did a big food shop so now have enough for 15 meals.

Some washing to go over the airer before bed. Cycling tomorrow so free exercise and fresh air!

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Yorkshire isn't it the worst when you end up buying lunch out or a takeaway and then hating it and just wishing you'd stuck with simple home made grub! Sorry to hear DS2 is pooped.

I had one of those nights tonight. We had a horrible night last night as DD was sick in the early hours, in our bed. She had been in and out of it all night prior to that so I literally had no sleep before 4am when my husband stepped in and took her off me and settled her. Anyway woke up this morning feeling dead. What with my filling coming out yesterday as well which is now a whole other conundrum....I just wanted a takeaway so much tonight. But I know that takeaway's never make me happy. My tummy is always upset the next day and the cost vs pleasure ratio is non existent. So I kept going with operation use it up and served up home made baked beans for us both, with oven chips, a slice of toast each, a fried egg for me, and a handful of chorizo in the beans for OH. We both really enjoyed it and it saved us £20.

    Hi December Debt-Free Devotees,

    Wee Geek couldn't sleep so...

Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Two:

    * DW likes to decorate Dowd Towers with pine cones and berries at this time of year and we always deep clean the sitting room before we decorate so when I woke at 4am I got up and spent 3 hours cleaning. Used Stardrops and washable cloths and a drop of bleach. I think DW will really appreciate my "gift" to her as I haven't done much around the house lately and the place was getting hangs head in shame neglected.

    * Burning candles from Stores to remove the smell of the bleach.

Live long, live well and prosper.

    Morning Saturday Savers,
Mr f has had to work, so it's a stay at home nsd for me. Today's tasks will include:
*Cleaning house with minimal products & washable cloths. Already hoovered upstairs at 6.45am to make use of cheap electricity tariff.
*Wrap a Christmss present using recycled paper & a home-made gift tag.
*Make Christmas red cabbage. Huge cabbage £2 on market. Already got onions, sugar, spices, etc, & will use our windfall apples. Will do half in oven & half in slow cooker, then divvy up to freeze. Enough for lots of meals.
*Depending on time, I may make mince pies to freeze too.
*Load washer for cheap overnight wash.
*Knit up last of my l/o sock yarn stash into little blanket squares.
*Wash hair & let it dry naturally. Will also be swilling water around conditioner bottle to get the last bit out.
*Finalise meal plans & write shopping list as mr f has volunteered for Aldi tomorrow.
Lastly.....any cat owners who buy 'Felix'....I wss in Wilko's yesterday & they had 2 of the more expensive varieties for £3 a box instead of £4.85 a box. Bought 2, as that's a good saving.
    Must get busy now.
    Love to all,

    Morning all,
Not sure how many "small things" I will do today as we have a lovely day planned with the kids.

Going to the cinema with hubby & kids to see Dr Strange this morning, have had a good breakfast so won't have any snacks in the cinema. :)
Will pop into pr1mark to get a xmas jumper for our eldest (his old jumper now fits the youngest :) ) :)got a size bigger so will get more then one year out of it!
Need to add dry goods to the Mr T shop planned for tomorrow for the recipe hamper I'm doing for my niece for xmas
Heating will be off as much as possible and will make the most of candles, extra layers and blankets :)
Maybe a film from stores this evening :)The nice guys, rented using the rain peoples no rush freebie credit
Will park near my parents and walk into town to save parking costs :)Dad invited us for brunch, so I took the leftover sausages and they did the bacon, eggs, beans and toast :)
Will call in at the c00op before coming home to look for bargains :)Got ys leeks and ys parsnips, also some bread, ys cans of ironbru and some ys cheesecake that will be dessert for tomorrow :)
    Check luckyphone/mnumberplate/fpl :)

    That's enough for me.

    Have a lovely Saturday all.

Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

I was shattered last night so ended with an early night. Still a few things that I didn't do yesterday that I will catch up on today.

Thinking about all your non sleepers, rest up today if you can.

    - Doing the same as you this morning Ally. Tidied the living room ready for the Christmas decs. It's our tradition to buy a real tree - not MS at all. But we always buy it the first weekend in December to get our money's worth!
    - Found a voucher for a pack of free baubles in the local paper so will pop into the garden centre on route today.
    - Going up to the local Christmas fayre. Making sure my DD takes her own pocket money and hope that we don't come home with too much tat.
    - Writing some Christmas cards today, best get cracking! I want to send them all second class.
    - Opened my DD's first bank account yesterday, she's excited about getting her own bank card. Looking forward to teaching her about managing her finances the MSE way!
    - FPL, Totalcashback comp, Jet2 comp

That's all for me today, LP x

    Morning everyone

Well, I think I failed at the first hurdle with the beans - only put 200g in to soak...still another 800g in the cupboard... Will be a good trial batch. And the mung beans weren't in enough water so they were bone dry this morning :o #rookieerror

Day at home today - lots to catch up on... Hoping to spend the morning tidying up, the afternoon cleaning and then this evening crocheting

    Catch up soon!

    xxx
