im not on atkins per se but have been eating a low carb diet - or rather eating in a low carb manner for about 14 months now

i love it and cant see me changing it - hub is doing it as well tho he is maintaining so eats some wholemeal toast occasional roast potatoes and isnt as careful

i have very slowly lost about 18lb - but its about more than the weight loss - its about the fact i dont feel hungry and dont obsess about food anymore
i feel fantastic and have bags of energy

my children eat healthy carbs - wholemeal pasta brown rice granary bread but son would stop all carbs if i allowed him too but i dont

we do cheat a bit on our fruit - lots of berries and melons

living without those horrible carb cravings is fantastic and i recommend it to anyone

p.s i have my chloestrol checked 2 weeks ago and my doc was amazed !!

Doesn't it feel good Raphael when you resist temptation? If only it made it easier the next time, but I don't find that it does, do you? And a good loss too!

  • Help!

poor you katie: any chance of a soak in the bath and a good book and acoffee, or is that a forlorn hope?:coffee:
Bad luck on the crisps! (And I speak as someone who has caramel squares in the freezer that I don't need to sell for a business! And I confess I have less than I did last week. Expecting a maintain this week...)
I can be really strong sometimes in the face of tempting food, and then suddenly it can crumble: I think you are just having a bad few days and I'm not suprised the crisps are calling. Tomorrow is always day one so try not to add to your stress about the food eaten today. This is a marathon not a sprint and these life events will always happen. All it will do is make it a bit longer before you hit your target: that's all. Next week you'lll probably have a great week and this will be a distant memory.:grouphug:
As for household stuff: I always find sorting that sort of stuff ridculously stressful. Had to make 2 calls today: to boiler man and builder and I've been dreading them all weekend so I can sympathise.

I find that giving into small treats every now and then helps. If I say 'no never' I end up wanting it more and give in, usually stuffing my face with the banned food, followed by huge guilt.
Where as, if I say one a month, or couple of weeks, I look forward to my treat & I'm usually good.

hi thanks 4 ur reply im 5ft4 . when u droped below 1000kals did you lose weight?

    123 I think at 5ft 4 and 9 stone 3 you've got a very healthy BMI of 22.5. At 8 stone 3 you'd have a BMI of 18.4, which would indicate that you'd be underweight.

So I'd be very careful of going under 1000 kcals without checking with your GP. You'd risk losing muscle, including your heart muscle.

This is just my opinion, there are people on this thread who know MUCH MUCH more than I do.

Hi 123, for your height it is recommended that you weigh between 8 stone and 10 stone 2 pounds (with the lower weight being on the cusp of unhealthy due to being underweight and the upper weight being on the cusp of unhealthy due to being overweight), so you should be looking to be about 9 stone in weight.

Re dropping below 1000 kcals a day - no I do NOT lose weight, in fact I have been known to gain weight as my system goes into starvation shut down mode
