I've just been catching up a bit with all the posts and am amazed at the wealth of advice that I've read. Although none of it's directed at me I think I've found something of personal benefit in every bit of it. Thanks to you all, and not one of you sounds bossy or patronising just really thoughtful adn concerned for the well being of others. (Actually now I sound patronising :o )

I agree with you grannyn. Although I must admit that I've speed read most of the posts, Petrichor's post about the mirror not lying is so true. I meant to measure myself when I started back at WW 6 (?) weeks ago but didn't get around to it. I've found my weightloss has been frustratingly slow but (and yes, it's a big one!) although I've lost about 9lbs in weight, I have noticed that my waist is making a comeback, my trousers for work are a lot looser and I'm choosing to make my clothes more of a motivation than what the scales say.

I was also interested to read ajax's comments about his OH's frustration with her weightloss compared to his. As you know, the person I go to WW with is really competitive and has managed to lose almost a stone in the time that I've lost 6.5lbs. I know that I decided to compete against her in the first week to see how I would do but I've subsequently decided that while she is better motivated by the competition, I'm not. For instance, this week I lost 1lb compared to her 1/2lb and she was furious because I'm sure she half starved herself over the weekend whereas you all know I had a total blowout. I'd much rather lose 1/2 - 1lb per week and still enjoy my life than to suffer and have everyone else suffer around me too and lose 2lbs per week. Small sustainable changes are the long term way to keep it off. And that's what I'm aiming for.

It's funny, I bet if we read through all the threads we'd find different topics of conversation in different weeks/days. It's almost like today's theme is slow and steady wins the race. (loses the weight).
Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.
Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.
  • I made a homemade pizza tonight and thought I might share the recipe incase anyone else would like to give it a go. It was yummy

The recipe makes a pizza about 9" in diameter, so suitable for one person. When I crave pizza i was buying those WW ones, but as well as not being very moneysaving (this recipe only costs pence to make- the WW are at least £1.50) I didnt think they were actually very nice. I found their base hard, dry and tasteless and there is hardly any cheese on them making them bland and dry. This one still makes a reasonably fluffy base and 60g of tesco low fat cheese is enough to make a nice moist covering of melted cheese . At a cost of pence to make and <350 cals and <2.5g of fat it'd make a nice lunch to take to work (mmmm cold pizza ).

Pizza ~340 calories and 2.4g of fat.

    Ingredients

60g of plain white flour (200 cals, 0.8g fat)
    1 teaspoon of baking powder
    0.5tsp salt
1.5 tablespoons of tomato ketchup (30 calories, trace fat)
60g of tesco low fat cheese, grated (110 calories, 1.6g fat) -
    Oregano
Veg for topping (bit of chopped onion, mushrooms and peppers)- neg. calories

    Instructions

In a bowl mix the flour, baking powder and salt. Then drip cold water into the mix until it forms a dough that binds together without being too sticky. With floured hands and chopping board, knead the handful of dough for 5 minutes or so until its soft, even and springy.

Roll out as thin as possible (there wont look like much dough but it will roll out to about 9" in diameter). Spread the tomato ketchup on the top, sprinkle with oregano, and top with the grated cheese. Add your desired topping and put in the oven until its brown and the cheese has melted. Voila!

I have just made a garlic pizza bread one too (<250 calories), I made the base as above and spread a dollop of Tescos extra light garlic and herb soft cheese (35cals, 0.9g fat) over the base. I've not cooked or eaten it yet so don't know what it will turn out like but I imagine it'll be ok!
  • Haven't looked at the recipe in a while but you could alter it to make cup cakes instead. That way you have it all portioned out (make sure you stop at one!) and you might use less of the filling/topping.

That is an excellent idea, thanks, FFM :)

...granny and delly I agree that it's good to read the posts and even if they are directed specifically at someone else it's surprising how we can see things that relate to ourselves. Last week when Victory was feeling down, the lovely helpful responses were there to be shared by all and I found some of them truly inspiring, so thanks peeps  ...

...delly I agree with you about the weight loss, it is so much better both mentally and physically to lose weight slowly, by using a plan that re-educates our brain to eat healthily for the rest of our lives not just until the weight has gone...

  • Good morning everyone :D

Just a quick hello before I leave for work, only had time to skim the thread.. there's loads of new posts on here! So thanks to those offering wise words and well done to the losers :)

I had a very bad day yesterday, due to having to go to my mums for dinner, she doesn't know I'm on a diet, so I had to eat what was dished up (there were lots of veggies, but also a steak and kidney pie:eek: ) and of course it included a very fat and sugar laden pudding! Going to try and get back on the straight and narrow today :)

Just as an aside, my son leaves for Uni on Saturday, and I know I'm going to be so upset the weekend is likely to become a comfort eating carb-fest. As a damage limitation exercise I'm trying to think ahead about what things I can eat and get some in ready.. any suggestions would be appreciated :D

Hope everyone has a good day!

well done misty and katy :j :j

All the doctors, diet gurus, professionals always say that to loose it slowly and steadily is to keep it off..for good, it is less of a trauma on your body, your body gets time to adjust from huge amounts of food that may have been the wrong ones covered in fat to change to healthier lower caloried ones, the body is fantastic machine that can adapt but it needs a bit of time and if you give it time it give you the reward of weight loss:D

The verdict on the choc beetroot cake...lovely and moist, turned out exactly like the photo so was well impressed, I nearly stopped making it as 250g of light muscavado sugar is excessive and not keen on giving my kids that much sugar in one hit:eek: carried on and the reviews were 'oh mum this is lovely' so that is a winner, H thought it was a bit sweet as I thought he would:D

Stress is difficult but like you say with a bit of forward planning can be over-come food wise, make sure you have lots of low yogurts, sugar free jelly, 0%fat free greek yog, salad in the fridge, crackers in the cupboards, loads of fruits, low calorie soups that can just be heated up, what you need is all of the good stuff that is low in calories sugars and fat but can be eaten quickly without breaking into your calorie count or point count, apples for their sugar, raspberries, rhubarb, fromage frais....

Find some foods that you don't usually buy that are healthy and that you love and buy some of them as treats.

My favourite fruit is cherries so I'd get some of them (fresh, frozen tinned, in a jar - anything), or some frozen raspberries, heat them up in a small pot with a sprinkling of sugar - yum - or just eat the raspberries frozen.

Smoked salmon is lovely but a bit pricey so I'd get some of that, tuna steak (frozen ones are cheaper) etc.

Think healthy, but lovely. Buy something that you might view as a treat but that is still not fat and calorie laden ;)
