I have a growing feeling that Britain will NOT leave the EU

  • And quite right too.

If you want to have the benefits of club membership, you follow the rules and pay the fees.

If you don't want to pay the fees and follow the rules, you can leave, but then you should expect none of the benefits.

On a per capita basis that's about right.

They also have to man a fax machine (well a PC nowadays) to incorporate all the changing EU laws into their own system without ever having a say in how they were drawn up or a veto over anything important.

    Not quite true.

I don't despise the EU : I think it is a less than optimal organisation of states to maximise the benefits for the people : great for the EU elite but bad for the people.

In any event, the narrative that all would be well if only the (presumably superior) UK had fully engaged is ridiculous. Is that narrative shared by the other 27 countries : were they all just waiting around for the UK to lead them to utopia?

Which specific actions of the UK have prevented the EU from flowering ? Not joining the euro perhaps? or not integrating our jury led legal system into their judge led system : what exactly?

Do you have the evidence to show that the MAJORITY of UK MEPs want to brexit or destroy the EU.

I struggle to take you seriously. On one hand you don't despise the EU but on the other you state they're vile scum.

If you want leap in to make non-points about the MAJORITY of UK MEP's knock yourself out but I'm content that the UK can be considered a lukewarm participant in the EU at best.

Many of the issues you get your knickers in a twist about are going to be unchanged when we leave the EU. It's not that the EU has forced us to behave in a certain way but that the UK doesn't feel strongly enough about the issues in the first place.

Do you not think that this is because the political narrative in the UK has moved in a different direction to that in the rest of the EU?

I'd say we are definitely more right of centre; more free market; more liberal; closer to the USA in many respects.

Some of the core EU states have strong social policies. Even unemployed get holiday pay in Holland, for example.

That's only in your opinion. Some of us don't consider it to be a monstrous wickedness at all, merely complicated.

Remind me of my post that called the EU 'vile scum'

No, I think it's because UK politicians find it easier to keep Europe at arms length than engage and risk career damage.

Those that deliberately damage the people of europe can reasonably be so described : that doesn't NOT make the EU the same.

Think about all the things you hate about the EU (a long list I know). What has your beloved white christian government done about any of them?
I hate very little about the EU : but I do disapprove of the high unemployment, the CAP policies that damage both the people of Europe and the people of the developing countries and I believe it is not an optimal way to enhance the quality of life of the peoples of Europe.
I know of NO way that lack of the UK leadership has contributed to these issues but your about to tell me aren't you.

Of course, what could poor little UK do about anything?

That was the question to you : but you don't want to answer : that's OK

There isn't an answer. It's a belief that if the UK had been more engaged in the EU then the EU would look different. I understand you have a different belief system - that's OK.

Whether any of your pet peeves would've been addressed I'm not sure. I have a suspicion that both the UK and EU would be equally indifferent to your feelings which is why I think you should prepare yourself for continued disappointment post Brexit.
