I have a growing feeling that Britain will NOT leave the EU

I have had the growing feeling during the past couple of weeks that Britain may not leave the EU.
When the referendum was held many if most people thought it was a strait-forward question with a simple result that if the vote was to leave this was going to happen very quickly.
We are now in a very different place, five months on, and the enormity of the process together with the potential time frame of many year beginning to sink in.

We have the High Court due to report shortly.
There is the prospect of a debate in Parliament or a referral to the European Court in Luxembourg.

Five months ago I was deeply upset but as time has passed I have come to realise that the longer ALL this takes the less likely in my opinion will Britain actually leave the EU.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

  • Don't know about the not leaving bit.....

But it is looking increasingly likely that we'll avoid a 'hard Brexit' and stay in similar single market arrangements to today - perhaps with some slight tweaks to FoM but broadly keeping most of it.

I agree, what with the Brexit vote and the US election result, the natural ruling classes are going to be much more circumspect about making sure the pretence of democracy is much more carefully controlled and orchestrated going forwards.
    I think....

I have every confidence that we will be leaving, not sure who made up this "soft and hard brexit" saying. We will take full control of our boarders, our laws and who we decide to trade with.

For those that wish us to remain, your clasping at straws, sorry...

So was the promise of £350m a week for the NHS valid and fair, on a barefaced lie to keep the little Englanders happy?

I'm tired of reading about control of boarders. If your boarders are misbehaving, evict them.

Perfectly fair when you consider the lies from the other side:beer:

When the Breixt vote occured and the result produced, i always said to those who were wailing, dont worry, it will never happen. I still stand by that.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The more that German, Dutch and even Maltese minor politicians threaten us the more I believe that we will be well rid of the whole thing, and I voted remain.

It is win, win! If the boarders have been making a mess, landlords will shortly be able to clean up after them with more powerful vacuum cleaners.

You really do need to concentrate upon more than these forums and certain sectors of the British media.
Those of us who have seen previous posts of yours are fully aware of your love for the EU and for the disdain which you have shown in these forums for the UK.
We have seen you profess never to return here from your Luxembourg home.
Perhaps therefore you are not so well-informed of ACTUAL sentiment here within the UK.

So let me put this simply:

Following David Cameron promising a referendum AND that the result would be honoured,a democratic vote was held.
With only two questions; stay in the EU or leave the EU.
The result was a majority of those who could be bothered to vote (which incidentally was the highest turnout in a national vote for a very long time) voted to leave the EU.

Since the results were announced, certain factions have decided that they do not now like democracy and will do what they can to impede, delay or even nullify this democratic decision.

Now the problem with this is that even many of those who did not vote with the majority do at least recognise democracy.
Meaning that if Brexit is NOT forthcoming, the UK faces a very serious threat of public unrest and even possibly civil unrest.
    A revolution in other words.
The only alternative being what these supporters of such anti-democratic views seem to desire; a tyranny or a dictatorship.

Now you may think that sounds far-fetched?
Consider (again) though that a majority voted for leaving the EU AND that many would prefer democracy to dictatorial regimes.
Having considered these points, do you seriously believe that there is any REAL chance that any democraticaly-chosen government anywhere would contemplate encouraging the civil unrest that is a very real risk if the wishes of the majority are not considered?

So it is my belief that Article 50 will be put forward - and by the end of March as TM has said.
Because to do otherwise does indeed pose a real and serious risk to national security for the reasons I show clearly above.
