Well a few days after making my original post I came home and she had taken the car, her personal belongings and a few other things, so I have nothing. Since then she has occasionally popped round to pick up post for her and although I know where she works, I don't know where she lives.
As there was a lot of mail I got curious and opened her mail and then chucking most of it in the bin. It transpires that she is using my address when she lives elsewhere and borrowing money. Since mid-November she has bowed £2000 on her car from CarCashPoint, A default notice from Satsuma, a notice of Judgement arrears from BWlegal for £1,223.36, and a letter from Amigo loans advising of a failed monthly payment of £103.06. She is obviously using my address to borrow money with no intention of paying it back (I guess to gamble it instead). I guess that there will be a line of debt collectors and/or bailiffs coming here - thinking that this is her address. Does anyone know if I can prevent this please. I really don't want all of this aggravation.
It is actually against the law to open post addressed to someone else

It's really not (not in most cases). Even your own link states that.0 -

Only "if you open mail ‘without reasonable excuse’ or if you ‘intend to act to another’s detriment'."

You might also want to check your credit files to make sure she hasn't tried to take out any form of credit in your name and also if you 2 ever had any joint accounts, to remove the financial association, otherwise your credit history is going to suffer immensely.

To find out whether the ex was still giving the OP's address as her place of residence.
But surely that is obvious from the address? Not sure why it would need to be opened to establish that but hey, was only trying to help and the link says the safest thing to do is return it 'not at this address' which I think would be the OP's safest course of action.0 -

There's a difference between post arriving because she hasn't changed her address with companies and post arriving because she's still giving that address in order to get new loans.0
