Right - i've checked and apparently my Amazon prime account gives me unlimited photo storage in the cloud. I'll see just how much i can upload (and I might treat myself to a 1TB portable drive too)
OK.. i'm trying out a little 8gb upload, only 380gb left after that! (it's a cumulative backup of all the photos we've ever taken as a family, across phones, tablets and cameras, for about 14 years)0 -

Thats a bit more than the 1000 or so you mentioned initially.

My advice is to do it in small batches. My experience with Onedrive is that it just locks up if I try to upload a large number of files at once.0 -

Second backup:
If you have a Google account (if not, get one) use Google Photos and download Google Drive, then setup MyDrive. Put all your photos into Google photos and back them up to MyDrive.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Cloud services do not hold Hi Res pictures well and they compress them to save space. You're also forgetting that if your internet goes belly up then you've lost access to your Cloud as well.
Clud is not a good storage medium - it's a good medium for keeping at hand files you don't want to carry on device. Ideally you want to get yourself a NAS instead.
But if you're just after storage then 3TB Toshiba Canvio drives are pretty cheap these days. You're also 100% in control of your pictures.0 -

you have the option with google photos to keep original or high res (max 16mb)
cloud storage is ideal for offsite storage. some also has some cool features
3tb? my digital life started in 2000. i have taken 22,000 photos and 1,000 videos since then and all those 16 years of content only takes up 190gbs of storage. the drive will die long before you get anywhere near filling it."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
