I've approx 1000 photos which I've never backed up or copied so will buy an external hard drive. Should I get a 1tb or 2tb and is there any other thing I should look for when buying one?
If I copy all photos to hard drive and then delete from my laptop will it run faster as its very slow?
A mate said just buy a usb flash drive, which one be best it or a external hard drive?
Cheers

How much space do your photos take up at the moment? If more than 1Tb, you definitely need a drive larger than that.
If your photos take up less space than a USB flash drive, that will suffice.
Your slowness is unlikely to be caused by photos on your hard drive.0 -
A thousand photos could take up anything from 100meg to 100gig of space, depending on what format they are - JPG, RAW, BMP or something else - and also what size and resolution they are.
A 1Tb drive would certainly store them and also give you a good bit of space for backing up other stuff as well.0 -
if you delete them, you still won't have a backup, and there will be no improvement in speed from doing so, 1000 photo's would use less than 5% of a 1TB drive, they would probably fit on a dvdDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

I'd look in to cloud storage. No point backing up to a USB hd if your laptop is stolen with it connected or a fire etc.0

I back up to the cloud and an external hard drive.
Not that I'm paranoid or anything.0 -
I wish I could figure out a decent way of backing up 300gb of photos... They just live on my portable HD at the moment. I can't be bothered having to keep two parallel copies on two HDs, and it's way too much for cloud storage.
1000 photos? That's a weekend away for me!0
