  • Hi,
Just another point to note for people regarding Lebara....they say it is a monthly plan, but it isn't, it's a 30day plan. I signed up for an MSE blagged deal a few months ago with them. I've been really happy with the transfer and the service, but they caught me short when the payment date keeps changing. When I've checked it out, it turns out it is a 30 day plan, not monthly as advertised. Really annoying and may catch a few people out this month.

Shame on you MSE for not highlighting this.Good thing we're not talking massive amounts of money.
  • Which, if any, of the MVNOs offer WiFi calling? And which of the MVNOs offer 5G?

Yes, MSE incorrectly state it is a monthly plan. Lebara do state 30 days.
However, my bills have been generated around the same date each month. They have considtently varied from the 3rd to the 5th of the month.
In fact this month's is due now and a SMS imminent.
  • Avoid O2. The £8 9GB sim only deal sounded great but the ordering process was a disaster. Cancelled the account in the end after my sim was only sent 4 weeks later and 10 days after the first bill. Customer service has been replaced by a chat room in India.

This site seems to be up to date wrt 5G service (and where it has been implemented) 5G DOT co DOT uk/coverage.
WiFi calling (and/or 4G calling) has been implemented by a few MVNOs, halfcooked DOT co DOT uk/best-networks-for-wi-fi-calling/ seems current. I'm sure you're aware that getting it to work on your particular phone/MVNO/plan can be a bit fraught. In MY experience only the list of compatible phones on iDMobile's site is anywhere near up-to-date. iD is also the only MVNO I can personally confirm WiFi calling works OK (on an OPPO A15 and a MOTO G 5G Plus).
  • SMARTY (Three network) offer Wifi calling too. Much depends on which phones support it. It works on my cheapo Chinese handset using SMARTY.
  • Misleading advertising from MSE. If something seems to good to be true it probably is.

Just switched to Lebara from an expensive O2 deal and yes it is a lot cheaper and yes MSE get their cut from the affiliate link but the service is not the same as Wi-Fi calling is not included. For those who rely on this it is a deal breaker and one that MSE doesn’t mention. Buyer beware.

Lebara is a one month rolling package so not that difficult/expensive to change if necessary. The links @gavinbaxter gave me up above are useful for finding which providers give WiFi calling.
  • "Misleading advertising from MSE"
If something is NOT advertised is it misleading? Are Lebara misleading, by omission, in not advertising WiFi calling?
Simple answer, before committing, is to ask them. Particularly if it's a "deal breaker".

Do all of the sim only companies allow tethering?
I am thinking of giving up broadband and just going with the cheapest unlimited data sim. I have a couple of old Huawei mobile routers.
