  • Thanks for the Welcome Antomac!

I think I'll try for £500. That might be a stretch, but nothing ventured, nothing gained :D!

On my birthday, just before Christmas, I was given a new savings pot by my son in law. This is great as it means I won't have to search for one in November as I did this year.

I was able to pot £29 this week which I am very pleased with.

One way I have been able to save (stop me if you've heard this from me before!) is when I buy reduced items, to charge my housekeeping, birthday fund, etc - the full cost of them - unless I would not have bought them at full price.

I had four vouchers from Waitrose this month and was able to use 2 of them. One was £10 off a £50 shop, and the other was £8 off a £40 shop. I potted the £18. And whenever I get their free newspaper - I charge that to my daily spending account.

At the end of the year I put the whole of my sealed pot money into my birthday/Christmas fund for the following year.

I've still got a £9 voucher off a £45 shop to spend by New Year's Eve and I wondering if I can use this too and charge it to my January housekeeping allowance. But my freezer and my cupboards are full and next year's challenge is to see how little I can spend on housekeeping. This year I have £12.37 left of £1300, and next year I want to keep it within £1200.

Frogletina Thanks for the tip. I must learn to start thinking like that.

My printer broke just before Christmas and I needed to buy another one, I got some christmas money so spent that on a printer. I should really put that money in the pot. It was £30 so will be a good start for me and like you say I would have had to spend it out of my budget anyway.

That's brilliant! :) Thank you for the tips. I'm kind of going for a no spend January. So i'll pot whatever I have left over at the end of the month.

    Evening

Excellent tips frogletina. I don't do much food shopping, but I could do something similar with not buying lunch from overpriced canteens or coffee shops.

    58p potted today.
