Sue, I take epilepsy medication and have taken Tramodol in the past with no problems. I'm on morphine patches these days and my body getting used to them was fun! (not)

This is my first year of the challenge. I will have to admit - I haven't done as well as I'd hoped but at least it's a start.
I have, however, gained so much inspiration from every one else - so hopefully next year will be better.

  • Debate going on in my house today.
I have about £15 saved in 50p and £2 coins that I think are extra pretty/unusual like a scouting one and a Dickens one. They’re my favourite ones and I don’t know whether I should keep them or pot them.
What would you all do? I’m conflicted because I’m weirdly attached to them, but it’s kind of wasted money.

I can't speak for everyone, but I collect coins and I didn't always collect the special minted coins but I have decided to recently. I do it with the £2 coins and the 50ps.

The reasons why are these. 1) I genuinely like the designs and it gives me pleasure to collect them and 2) They are worth more, maybe not necessarily at this moment in time but if you keep them in good condition they will retain and generally increase in value to sad collectors like me :)

I appreciate it is a lot of money to keep aside, I easily have a good £10 in coins like these in my coin collection, but they should increase in value over time so I look at them as an investment.

Thanks for the gold star Sue :)

jellyb - Any amount saved is a good amount saved in my opinion. Think of it as something you wouldn't have otherwise saved. SPC is a good habit to get into.

DancingUnicorn and FlorenceJ. I understand your feelings of attachments to certain coin designs. I really like the new ones and will feel a little bit miffed when I count them up andpay them in. I would keep the designs you like If I were you.
'If I were you' is a favourite saying of my M-I-Law (when she's offering advice) which I tease her for, and here's me now using it.

Found a pound coin when putting the car seats down to go to the tip this morning. That went straight in the pot.

    3 full days to go

    Afternoon potters

As an avid coin collector I tend to pot all my coins and then on pot opening day I go through all the £2's and 50p's and check for any rare ones (i'm actually known to check the 20p's as well just incase one of the misprinted ones does ever manage to make its way into my hands) and then bag up and change up at the bank. I will say if I particularly like a certain design I will buy the pack direct from the mint so its untouched rather than collect ones that have been handled and gone through tills cos I am a fussy collector and like my coins/notes to be immaculate, other people not as fussy as me :rotfl:

DH was jingling again! £1.35 found in his pocket :D

  • Thanks guys! I’m glad I’m not the only person who has an attachment to coins and I feel better for keeping these aside now.
Boyfriends Dad got an Isaac Newton 50p in his change today and thought it was funny not to give me it despite me offering £1 for it! He’s just text the boyfriend to say he’s wrapping it up for me for Christmas. I despair! At least I’m getting it though :D

Hi, I know its so late in the year but can I join? Me and my partner have been saving in a tin since January but I didn't realise there was a thread with others doing the same! We have individual envelopes we save notes into each and a sealed pot we save our pennies and coins in. We will split the pot in half when we open it :) We have said we need to open it soon so this seems like good timing!

  • Hiya, Can I become member 584? Only really just seen this post, but me and the boyf do have a pot we fill with all our pennies. Might be nice to have that goal to try to fill the Pot up within the year. Ours is a rather large Demi-John!
