    SO much news,so much news......

Today I bought 3 pots: a smiley-face tin,a tin with pink pigs and "A penny saved is a penny earned" printed all over it,and one with very colourful dinosaurs-very cute.Going to use one for £2 coins, one for £1 coins, and one for smaller stuff.Need to look at them together and decide which tin for which. Will also be ramdomly putting notes in whatever tin I feel like,so will be a total surprise when they fall out.

Banked SPC money, posted on SPC 9 thread about adjusted total,Sue.

I am guessing I am the only one on here whose pots are secret from the rest of the family/partner,etc.I don't know why, really:it's not like I need a secret stash incase I need to get away quick,or anything dark like that. It's not like OH would demand a share of anything I saved, etc. He probably wouldn't bat an eyelid (cos he wouldn't realise how much I squirrel away :D).I just figure he earns more than me,if he tried he could save more than me.I would just like a little bit for me.At my age I really should have a bit of an emergency fund.(As mentioned yesterday,it is 12 months since my dad died.I had opened my pot about a week before,so I had £700-ish to buy airfare to Oz for funeral, etc.Of course OH would have given me money if needed, but it wasn't-the family budget remained intact.)

Having said all that,I have been thinking it would be a bit fun to have ANOTHER pot that we can all fill throughout the year, and count up.I didn't tell him about this challenge, but I put it to him that we need a bit of an emergency fund, and if I buy a tin,we can just fill it with coins at the end of the day (instead of leaving them on the side icon_rolleyes.gif).He was a bit hmmmm about it,but I asked him what design he would like on the tin, ignored what he said, and bought it today :D.It is another pig tin (as above),sitting in the clutter of our kitchen, and we will all contribute to it,and count it up in November. The children were all very interested, and I was explaining an emergency fund (without trying to sound like we are headed for an emergency).OH suggested it might be used for something like paying car insurance.Fair enough-saves taking a great whack out of your account when it's due.
So I think he is onboard, cos when he came home, the coins he normally clunks down on the side,he put straight into the pot :D.Sounded like a few coins.

I also have 90p set aside to pot when I sort my pots out

Thank you to Everyone for your lovely kind words....I so appreciate them....I'm doing okay, honestly, just trying to make sense of everything and do everything that must be done in terms of practical things....Trying to help my Family as much as I can do....

I'm going to live my Life in the best way that I know how...That's what Grandad would have wanted....and what he would still want when he is looking down on me....

I'm Potting 15p worth of Silver....It's going into a temporary Pot until I can get a new Pot in a few Weeks....

Everyone sounds like you are all doing AMAZING...Let's ALL keep going and make this THE best Potting Year EVER!! xXx :)

I would just like to echo what DreamerHelen has said here .....thank you all so much for your kindness, it means a huge amount to me. And I want to live to make my Dad proud, he would want me to be happy and live life to the full, and continue to look after my Mum.

I found a stray £1 coin in a compartment of a purse today so that has gone in my pot ....just checking my change now to see how much I can add to that and have managed another £2 :T:T

    SUE_UU,

Of course I understand I just didnt know it wasnt under challenges, its been a monthly challenge for me, totalling up my regular saver payments each month, thats why the figure was high.

I have laughed about the posts about the £5 notes, they are not meant to crumple thats the idea, so at least they are standing up to their design, I just find them slippery and quite hard to count especially when you get £100 at a time in the bank to put in your till.

Im not sure who posted about the £28 of £1 coins, you would be lucky yo get that from my till also, as £20 would have been bagged and bank with the float holder and only have £8 in the till in change.

That said when someone comes in for a random amount I (we) do try to collate it with other tills but yes its quite normal not to have £28 just in the tills, not sure how other banks work but most cashiers would have a limited about of coin in their tills and just enough to cover small change payments for like credit cards or those paying in a specific amount to pay a bill, or those people who withdraw the last few £ and pence from their accounts before payday...

I would say it something that is not just a one off and specific to that bank, that said you could alway put an order in to collect in coins, so the cashier dont bank away any change they get in, (customer pay in bags of coins for example)

    Just a thought...

£1 potted tonight from my shopping change when I went to get milk

  • It's been a busy week here. The whole house is empty of furniture (except a mattress) as the housemate is selling the house and needs photos taken. This week has been spend cleaning a massive house with the two puppies and cat trying to undo it all haha.
This has caused a delimma as I'm still waiting for Uni to tell me where the finally placement for my course will be next year (it's down to 2 states so need to know before I can relocate). If the house sells before I find out I will be back living with family for a bit and then moving again, not ideal with the furbabies. On the plus side I did get into my 2nd masters degree so I can start that next year as well :) which means busy me.
On a potting note we managed to break the top off my terramundi, so instead of just $2 coins everything is now going in there. I've got 4 $5 notes waiting for Friday to pop in. Plus the change that's been going in daily.
    Number 495 :)
  • I will be getting my pot this week along with my first deposit
    Sealed Pot Challenge 10 - #571
  • So I sat up during the night feed and watched the trainwreck that is America.
Will be potting again today as I need more electric and will likely end up spending money on chocolate haha

Hi Pinkwhisk, we all have various ways of potting our money. I have a different pot for each denomination of coins, I never intended that but have received them all from family members etc. You choose what's best, and maybe cheapest for you. For now why not put it all in one pot and see how things go. Any other questions you have, never hesitate to ask us! Re your latest post: good potting and you'll stay motivated if you keep with us, but don't allow doubts to creep in, they're not allowed! :D

You and I have the same problem with Christmas gifts, Frogletina, I'm hoping hints will soon be given but not counting on it. Why not make the most of a lean month and hope December will be easier for you? Re your latest post: I have 5 DGCs too, apart from the younger 2 we give money which I know is far more appreciated. A bit different if they're younger but how about some guidance from the parents.

A very wise decision re the DVD, indigowarrior, when in doubt....leave it!! Oh, it's never easy buying for a new born, the only thing I'd suggest is to buy for a 6 month old, after all they're not aware and it's pointless wasting money just for a gift that can't be useful. Whatever will become of the US now!!!!

Yes siju, everyone is keeping active at present, fingers crossed that it stays like it. More cash well potted for you, a good day!

    Oooh 2 x £2 coins already TheDapster, a good start for certain.:D

You do exactly what turns out best for you, rylee12, but at least you've got a good start with your £8 odd.

A peppa pig pot (try saying that over and over!) eh, jakes-mum, mmmmm excitement mounts eh....or not. Great news about the Giving Tree gifts got, I've 3 and not badly priced either but will keep pushing forward to find more. Mmm peppa pig.....nah! PS I get your point about the shrapnel, I can never scrub my hands enough after counting!!!!

    You're on your way Curly!!

Be patient Nannyg, it's very early days yet, cash will come!

Another snow lover eh, swimminginaseaofdebt, I LOVE IT!!!! :jThough we don't always mention it when Lynne's around as she lives in Scotland and detests it! Nice work in slotting a £1 in.

You mean that's a new pot that you're having problems and with, 32b3? A bit of a raw deal, any chance of exchanging it?

Nice work in using a holding pot, Jellyb, it least you're safe that way. A new pot - so renewed saving of course!

Hi Fiasco good to see you again and know you're rearing to do it all again. Best wishes with the Target.

So I take it you picked your DH's cash up then, MrsC....tobe! An excellent job!! ;)

Fantastic job with the pots, Saver-upper! Re the do we tell family or not that's up to you but for us it's for us.both plus....DH gets a lot more pleasure out of it than if he wasn't involved. Up to you Saver, just be happy, proud too! Thanks for the update of your Total, I've not been there yet today but soon will be.

You're so very right with your words about your Dad, hummingbird. You'll make him happy, yourself too if you live life the sensible and wise way. Above all he'd simply want you to be so happy! Well done on your latest quest!

Re the £5 pound notes, Westie, I know that's what they're designed for but it just doesn't feel right because they don't crumple, nor does it feel like 'proper money'! A bit like kiddies play money and too darned slippery! Not to worry about the 12k part of your savings, at least we both understand.

Oh dear CatandDogsMother, sounds as if things could become a little difficult for you, fingers crossed the house doesn't sell too quickly. Good news on the potting front!

Ok frenchplonka, we'll look ahead to hearing which pot you get....your first input too!

Nice work siju! Surprising how it will all mount up now.

Have a lovely evening and good Thursday, SPCers. Keep those pots rattling well!!! :D
