    Yoo hoo potters

Struggling a bit at present - awful couple of months which has messed me up rather, but hoping the future is orange.

Hi Dizzy Imp. I'm sorry to hear you've been through a rubbish time, but I too hope your future is orange! Hope the struggle gets easier soon.

I have a few bits to buy today so fingers crossed for some good change! If you hear squabbling later, it might well be me handing back any dusty old £1 coins and demanding the tills be checked for new ones or for £2s! Honestly, you'd think they'd have got the hang of it by now!

Have a lovely day, potters, and hope you all enjoy more sunshine than cloud in every way :) xxx

    Morningggggggggg Potterssssssssssss

Went to the bank yesterday to pay the CC bill (I like to do it in person, dont like this new fangled internet malarkey!) Talking to the teller about old £5 notes and she said she thinks they go out of circulation on 5th may, but said 'don't worry if you still have some as you can still pay them into your bank after this date, its only shops that can't accept them' I was like 'oooo what about the £1 coins as i'm part of an awesome sealed pot challenge and opening day isnt until a month after £1 coin removal' she said 'yep thats fine too, we'll still take them if you pay them into your account'. So Barclays (well mine at least) will take the old circulation coins and notes after the cut off date.

Then to top it off, as I was stood there another lady walked past with a sealed pack of NEW FIVE POUND NOTES! I actually squealed in excitement potters (got a strange look from both ladies) she was putting them in the cash machine. Teller said 'i take it you like those' . . . ummmm YES!!! :rotfl:

So if memory serves me correctly, I have 2 x £5 notes to go in the pot as it would have been wrong not to get some whilst at the bank :D

What an outing! I'm just trying to picture a sealed pack of new plastic £5 notes - it's giving me palpitations! I think it is at the discretion of the bank taking old notes and coins after the cut-off dates but it seems most will accept them for their own customers so hopefully there will not need to be any unnecessary hacking into pots before their due date!

I love they are putting them in cash machines, sometimes you don't want a 10 or a 20, you want a 5! (Or collection of 5s!) Nice to have the option in this day and age!

I hope your day continues in the same happy way jakes-mum, although it's difficult to imagine how you could possibly top this morning!? :D xxx

Wow, that's even better! I've been having to do individual transactions to ensure I am given fivers and nothing else! It may be time to switch banks! Martin would be so proud! :money: :D xxx

    Well done,

Yes the £5 goes out of circulation on 5th May I have already started to seperate them in my till at work, although many banks will still accept them after this date its just the shops that wont have to accept them, that said most of the old £5'r are so scrappy you are better just to pay them in and get the new ones back...

Same with the £1 although I havent cashed up my stash yet, but we are un indeed with them at work so I know lots of people are doing so, and our cash machines are being upgraded next week to dispense the new £5 notes, we have never had £5 in the machines before, so maybe somewhere the banks have done a poll to find out if its something customers want. It just means I bigger headache to balance the machines now with £20 £10 and now £5 to balance and to be out, (this is normally twice a month, due to mis dispensing or claims)

Well, I'm delighted to report that my shopping trip was hugely successful! Paid 99p with a £10 note and in my change was a beautiful new fiver and two sparkly new £1 coins for the pot! Also withdrew another new fiver to join them (had to try all three cash machines outside Natwest but it was third time lucky!) So that's a whole 12 squiddlies for the pot tonight! It's going to be like a royal banquet! :D xxx

You will be pleased to hear that I started my marathon training today, by buying an apple watch. I think it will be a whole lot easier to train with one :D

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you're taking this seriously. I have started researching the prices of glowsticks and may use the dusty old £1 coins I have lurking around to purchase a pom pom or two! We are right behind you - well, not literally, we'll be sitting somewhere waving stuff - but you have our total support! xxx
