Interestingly the message system did not work using Chrome, although all my other internet banking with them works fine. I phoned up to be told they could not close an account over the phone, would have to go to a branch - very inconvenient. However their tech guy said try Internet Explorer, which I did and then the message system worked, so that may be worth bearing in mind.

That's very odd. I've been messaging Nationwide on Chrome regularly, most recently on Monday & Tuesday this week, and never had any problem.

I can use the messaging service ok in IE but the account closing branch of it always ends in "We are experiencing technical issues....". Bored trying now, and I'll just keep the silly Saver Issue 8 account open with a zero balance.

That is the message I kept getting in Chrome (latest v55) , but it worked first time in IE. I'm still waiting for a Trusteer update for latest Chrome, that also does not work.

I spotted a "cash credit" of 9p in my FlexAccount. I assume this is backdated interest from the theoretical maturity date of the regular saver to the date I emptied its replacement.

The account had been closed by secure message sent from Firefox.

Mine matured automatically overnight. Interest added automatically and account type changed. So all seems to be fixed now.

Just opened a new regular saver account and sent £500 to it.

No, not fixed at all. Accounts are still maturing without interest being paid.

Mine was fine on the 3rd Jan, interest paid, account downgraded and I opened another account no problem.

Received interest of £165.39 today. Might treat myself to a cream cake. Tried to cancel the Iss 8 account and open another new 5% monthly account but no success, said I already had an account.

Will give it 24 hours and try again. Did anyone have any problems in cancelling and opening a new saver?

yes! there is a work around

Go to site find product when it asks if you are registered for online banking click NO and it should let you fill in application. It will not work if you are named first on another account though you just get a letter saying sorry blah blah.
