Bob - is it your sons birthday? I find that they are happy to just have a few friends round at home with pizza etc and maybe a couple of silly games organized. Lots of ideas online for games to play that cost nothing.

Yes it is thank you for replying Dolly. I think I am in a quandry because he recently started his new school, which means whilst he has a couple of friends, he isnt really that bothered, so do I invite everyone because there are no special friends, or do I let him invite just people from his old school, ahhh!!! I like the idea of a small gathering at home though. Ironically we have never done that!
Being the true die hard brits we are, we have held 2 of his large parties in the park over the years, both with treasure hunts of different kids, and then food back at ours. I would use my own business venue but its booked that day, so boo!
I will cast around online as you say. :T

    Hi All

Logging my 2nd NSD now as I wont be tempted for the rest of the day.

Me and DD headed out at 9am to a lovely local park and spent a fantastic morning playing in the leaves, talking to dogs (her favourite activity) & playing on the equipment. Headed back at 11, she was sparko in the buggy, the sign of a good morning:rotfl:

Have had coffee, lunch, & one of my gorgeous home made scones from yesterday, & spent the last hour and a half catching up online. Admin etc.

I have a docs appointment at 2.15 so OH is doing the school run, so other than me walking up the road at 2pm and back again, we wont be going anywhere else. Dinner will be the batch cooked lasagne from yesterday.

Thrifty It is hard making supplies last when you have children. My son ate 2 x portions of lasagne for dinner last night, halloween sweets, then asked for bread and butter! That was on top of the 2 bags of hola hoops he'd consumed on the way home and several tangerines. At almost 8 he eats probably as much as I do if not more some days. Thats on top of a good school meal at lunchtime. And theres nothing too him so he obviously needs it.

Part of me thinks its wrong to restrict calories at this stage, unless you have an overweight child who needs to cut back. In the spirt of being frugal Sarge, I'd say cut back on your tobacco and let the kids have more banannas:D

BTW I only have two rollies a day, so it's not like I'm smoking 20 quid a day (it's more like £4 every two weeks between us) and starve my kids. Sorry that sounded too defensive :o. And I am trying to cut them out too (trying to achieve this last stage this month). DH and I doing it slowly rather than cold turkey and that way we dropped from 10-15 a day (proper ones) before having kids to two a day (if that, rollies) but we broke all the associated habits along the way. I.e. I wouldn't even dream of having on in the morning or at work or in the house, yuk. And we never smoke around the kids, usually after bedtime. It upsets me seeing people that smoke pushing a pram or even worse in their house. I will get there, this month!!!!

BTW your son sounds like my 2.5 yo DD :D Hollow legs

BTW re party. Does your son like Ninjago? We had a ninjago party in the house and used some of these ideas http://live-laugh-and-learn.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/ninjago-birthday-party.html and there are loads more cheap decoration and party game ideas online. My son at 5 was a bit too young for it so 8 might be better.

Thrifty My tongue was very firmly in my cheek as I typed, I know you only have a couple a day. I just thought as poor Seasidegal got it in the neck for her manicure, I'd pass it back atcha :)

Isnt it funny how they go in waves on the food front, yes I remember around 3 he used to eat loads too. It must be times they are growing a lot.

Thank you very much for the party ideas. Ninjago is a favourite, good call.

That's what I mean when I said that it probably sounded too defensive . I know how you meant it. (Bit like texting, difficult because one can't read the tone :A) But I totally take your point and it is something that I beat myself up about it. Why can't I just leave those last two too? It's a disgusting habit. I think I have an addictive personality, I can't just have healthy stuff I need to have a vice as a treat. Sort of a reminder of the carefree lifestyle before kids that dictate most of my day today (in the nicest way possible). Sorry hard to explain without making it sound like an excuse. And an OH that still has vices doesn't help as I'm weak. I do want to stop. Thank you for being frank. I need kept in check too.:)

I started a Bullet Journal (can't remember where the idea came from on here) and started a chart for spend free, alcohol free, smoke free, anger free etc days. Just to visualise it and motivate me even a bit more.

I think military may fail this week. I'm going to have to fill the car. Was hoping to wait until tomorrow, but living a 6 mile trip from nearest (expensive) petrol station and on fumes, I'm not prepared to risk being stranded. It's all budgeted for. I'm just not sure I won't find a holiday essential missing tomorrow when I finish packing.

Bottom of the fridge frittata for lunch. Now just milk, yogurt and kale that need eating before we go. Everything else has been eaten, cooked and frozen, or checked for use by date. Proud turtle moment:D

Sending lots of love to toni's friend and everyone else who needs it

Day 3 is going well. Another no spend day to add to my list. Thursday nights are my down fall but instead of going to the pub I am going to visit my parents and then move some stuff with my brother. Depending on what time I finish I might even make a start on some Christmas crafts :)
    Make £10 a day, October 2023 - £105/£310

Thrifty no one can be good 24/7. Thankfully we are just being full on for November :)

My guilty habit is definitely coffee out. Having run my own cafe for several years my tolerance is high. But I am sticking to home coffee this month. You are doing well Thriftylass keep going!
