Good for you. Can you remind us who you work for in retail, just so we can avoid in future ;)

Businesses run differently with variable profit margins, but when these guys can take an order at 3pm and get it to me 'free' by 9am the next morning, I feel that others can certainly up their game.

    Yes, £3.79!

I know it doesn't always happen that way, but on the whole I find delivery by many companies to be pretty quick. They wouldn't need 10 days to know something was wrong.

When I click that link (and I'm in mainland UK) I get a delivery estimate of between Monday and Tuesday. It's nowhere near 3pm today and the delivery isn't showing as 'by 9am' tomorrow, far from it. If I want it 'estimated Monday' then it's £6.95. Did you read the Amazon listing correctly?

(I'm sure you know but for others) the ETA is based on the seller shipping the day after you pay and 1st Class taking 1-2 days (all excludes weekends), if the seller ships same day and Royal Mail deliver the next you'd get the service the OP mentions.

Whether the seller doesn't know about same day dispatch times being available or doesn't want to risk telling buyers their order will arrive the next day (the two day window for 1st Class is apparently dependant on where each person is, I see a two day window, some may see a one day window) is hard to say.

Reading the thread again I wonder where this 10 days has come from, 3-5 days is 7 including a weekend and Amazon won't let you open an A-Z until 3 days after the last date but of course you can contact the seller at any time to ask them any questions including where your order is.

  • I think a neutral rating is more than fair. The seller hasn't been awful but they haven't done anything to earn a good rating either.
If we had a customer like you we would promptly put you on the block list.

Please don't be offended by my comments I say them politely to you.
You'd block a customer because they leave a 3/5 rating saying 'Item never arrived but seller issued a refund promptly' when an item gets lost in the post?

You'd end up needing to block the entire country to be honest.

No I wouldn't but thank you for your comments
  • I guess the bit I don't understand is why average customer service deserves more than an average rating.

I don't see why sellers should be entitled to a 5/5 rating when they have provided a mediocre service.

Perhaps my expectations are too high or I just feel differently as a customer compared to a seller.

Based on that every transaction were you pay and then receive is 3/5.

A higher rating would only be deserved if something exceptional happens which when you buy a generic widget is unlikely.

Anyone can take an order and post it, the level of service a seller provides when something goes wrong is what I would judge a seller on and given the likes of Amazon and John Lewis often top polls of good companies it would appear the majority also feel the same.

The questions is what is mediocre here? To quote the OP, "There's a discrepancy between this and the 10 day window that actually appears when one presses "Track your item" on the well-known web site." which appears to be a complaint about how Amazon provides information rather than anything the seller has done.

This isn't a theoretical. I ordered the blades and they arrived next morning, without me paying for premium postage. They weren't those particular blades, but some like them in a 10 pack and I paid around £5.

That's why I wrote, "I know it doesn't always happen like this...."

But next day does happen, and within two days most of the time. That's my experience. Can't tell it other than it is.

Incidentally, we're now into 3 days for the replacement item and the post has been ....and gone.
