Are you quite certain pedestrians are always safe if they remain on the pavement?

I take it that these cars were doing above 30mph then ;)

Guess the signs are right then

"Kill your speed not a child- YOU CHILD MURDERER!"

(Even though it could only be manslaughter without intent...) :D
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Cyclists on here aren't angry. They're competent road users which seems to baffle you.

I'm sure most are, but surely just like motorists there are likely to be both competent and incompetent ones?
There's no dispute there are incompetent cyclists in the world but the cyclists on here sound competent to me.

No one on this thread has suggested cars are not immune, so dont understand your point of view. Just because there is a thread aimed at motorist only, does not suggest they are anti cyclist. Infact, if you read most of the comments on this thread, its overwhelmingly from cyclist, who seem to get their knickers in a twist if you dont respond to them. I am really concern if I as a moterist, i meet any of these cyclist on the road, because they seem very angry.

Blame you for hitting cars, you clearly have some troubles to overcome.

U design a thread for motorist, and cyclist type very personal, vile words.

I am done with this thread, and the trolls who have hijacked my thread

You have repeatedly stated cyclists are the dangerous ones, only thanked people who post something which supports your view and tried to blame cyclists for all the problems on the road, ignored all facts about dangerous drivers etc

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have a feeling however they'd have shot the video, or even used real clips of undertaking (appropriate word) cyclists, cries of "victim blaming" would be heard from the usual suspects within a few minutes.

That's ironic coming from a poster who always takes the motorists side and does indeed seem to blame the victim.

If your driving skills are up there with the attitudes you display and your debating and English writing skills then I suggest to you that any angry cyclist you encounter may have justifiable reasons to be angry with you and your one ton lump of metal.

I've got full car and motorbike licences, only occasionally ride a bike and walk a lot, but motorists with attitudes such as yours scare me however I'm travelling.
  • Have to admit I have just re-read the OP.

Does he seriously think that on an open forum he can say that he only wants to hear from motorists in a topic that involves cyclists too?

If the words were personal and vile they would be blocked by the forum software. What he does not want is to hear that cyclists are people, and that the vast majority cycle in a reasonable manner and have to put up with the attitudes of motorists and pedestrians alike who seem to think that cyclists have no right to exist.

I know we can never win, I have repeatedly been told off by motorists for cycling on the road, and by pedestrians for cycling on the shared cycle/footpath.

Today on my bike ride I will take in a fast road and a cycle path that shares a footpath.

I know that I will almost certainly have something thrown at me, will probably to told off for running a red light (I do not, it is more than my life is worth, this "red" light has an always green cycle lane light on a roundabout where I am taking the first exit), will be yelled at by pedestrians on the cycle section of the path for having the cheek to actually use a cycle path, will probably play chicken with students walking about 6 abreast (again across the footpath and cycle path) that seem to think I can stop in about an inch and generally have to put up with motorists that seem to think a few inches is enough space to leave when passing me.

If we can change one person's attitude towards cyclists then we might just save someone's life.

Unfortunately it seems that we cannot change OPs attitude.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Sorry, no cyclists. Your sort aren't welcome here. And don't try sneaking back in hiding behind your driving licence.

In case I wasn't obvious enough, a lorry that big does not suddenly swing 90 degrees left into a sidestreet (It would roll over, so it has to slow and move outwards first)...

It's ok - got it the first time - though normally when lorries do that they slow a bit first then pull out a couple of lengths before the turn and swing round. Not a couple of 100 yds up the road ...
    Oh - and there's definitely a straight on - albeit on a curve ...

I think we'll both continue to disagree on what we precisely we see in three seconds of video, but as to the "victim blaming mentality" of the ad, I'm going to leave you with one thought.

One of the best road safety advertising campaigns ever has been the "Think Once, Think Twice, Think Bike" and "Now You See Him, Now You See Him, Now You See Him" aimed at educating car drivers about doing what they are damn well supposed to do and look properly - in this case for motorcyclists.

How well do you think the campaign would have gone if the advice was for motorcyclists approaching a junction to "Hang Back" or "Back Off" as opposed to the car driver to actually look properly ?

Even though in terms of "one less dead person" it would have been pragmatic, as argued by some above.

I just try to provide a bit of balance and if the victim is to blame then why not blame them?
