DON'T EAT COLD! I suppose this advice is too late? I once had terrible food poisoning from eating a pork pie that I had forgotten to refrigerate when I got home...it was out for about 5 hours. The way to make the sausage roll safe is to put it in a hot oven until it is baking/steaming hot as heat kills about 99% of all bacteria. Hope you will be OK.0

Thanks everyone. Dh's logic is - they sit about all day at buffets and in lunch boxes so should be fine. I'll heat them up until steaming hot and give them (not all!) to him tomorrow. If he's okay the rest of us might eat them."A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

About 3 weeks ago I started to make a Christmas cake. I soaked the dried fruit in brandy but then, for one reason & another, I didnt make it. Do you think it'd be okay to make the cake with the 3 week old fruit now or should I just bin it? Its been covered in cling film but not refridgerated.
Thank you in advance

Well, brandy is a preservative......
Are there bubbles or is the cling film bulging? That would be a sign the fruit was fermenting/rotting. Does the mix smell sour or weird? Taste a bit too. If it's not fizzing, smells fine and tastes fine too then I'd go ahead and use it. It will be in the cake a lot longer than three weeks, remember!Val.0 -
Does alcohol go off? Personally I'd bung it in the cake.
From the age of 15 I made the family Christmas cake but I haven't made one for years - my children don't like dried fruit, and I'd end up the size of a small mansion if I had to eat a whole one0 -
No Mould..? Use it...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I've got the above sat in the fridge bought from Morrisons.
It has a "Use By" of September 12th, so 2 days out of date.
If I overcook it slightly, shall I eat it?
Don't wanna chuck it. I figure its got so much salt in it anyway it will OK, and the beef will have have an extra few days to "mature"

If you have had it properly refridgerated since you bought it, it will be quite safe to eat. I expect the manufacturers allow a fair bit of leeway in those dates. I've eaten cook/chill stuff (not meat) over a week past the use-by date.0
