  • Personally, I would say yes.
When my Mum makes sausage rolls she doesn't even store them in the fridge, just in a cake tin. I've noticed that my local co-op also sells freshly baked sausage rolls which are stored on the shelf. I don't see why the pre-packaged variety should vary that much from 'fresh'?
    Go for it ;)

  • I would intuitively say yes as well. I suspect it wouldn't be "officially" sanctioned, but they have loads of preservatives in them anyway! If you're worried maybe eat them sooner, rather than later as the real risk is that bacteria accumulated at the higher temperature and is now at an unsafe level. Less time for it to multiply=safer...that would be my logic anyway!

I seek the knowledge of other MSEers!

I bought some Seafood Sauce from Approved Food a while ago and still have a few jars - having checked and they're out of date by a year or so.

However.... they're sealed jars (both cellophane and the button is not depressable.... thats not a word but you get what i mean!) - so I'm not sure if they might be fine?

Ingreds are: veg oil, sugar, spirit vinegar, frustose-glucose, tom paste, egg, salt, modified maize starch, egg yolk, stabilisers (e#s) mustard flour, preservative (e#), colour (e#), onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, celery powder, white pepper.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance folks! x

  • just eat them warmed up. warmed up thoroughly. my nana too used to keep stuff like pies and sausage rolls and scones that she'd make in a cool cupboard and they were fine. she used to bake on the saturday morning for the sunday afternoon

I'd smell it, look at the texture and then taste it and if I tasted OK I'd eat it. It'll have been processed to smithereens to be sealed and it's got preservatives....

    But that's just me?

er Thats 'Approved Foods' seafood sauce? sorry, but I would bin that! surely a good seafood sauce doesnt need all those ingredients?
I make one with one thirds Mayo, salad cream, tomato ketchup with a dash of worcestershire sauce and mixed well. The granddaughters call it 'Pink Sauce' and can make it themselves now (they are 7) and its delish and takes about a minute to make!

I'm assuming your mayo is HM then yes? Just because a lot of mayos and ketchups will have similar ingredients to the above... all you're doing differently is buying component sauces seperately and mixing...

It's actually Somerfields - AF is a reseller of close-dated products. And it was bought not for convenience but for cheapness. I have no mayo. I have so salad cream. I have this, and tuna, and I don't have money to buy much else - hence the query ;)

sorry Vampiric - didnt mean to come across as po-faced. I have made the sauce without mayo on many occasions - and tbh I prefer the all salad cream version! the kids like the mayo one (yes its homemade but it does keep a few days in the fridge, and I make up batches at least once a week - I like it with HM chips as well as salad!)
if you havent got worcester sauce then use salt and pepper for seasoning! I was just surprised that something containing additives and preservatives along with so many processed items would have the label 'Approved Foods'!!! rather than waste it, I would do what katieowl says - if it looks ok, smells ok and tastes ok then use it!
