if it is I would have been in trouble long ago. Seems to happen when they are a bit old, for me anyway. Still fine to eat.

    woo thanks.
  • I bought a chicken from Mr S yesterday. Not marked down or anything. Put it in the fridge and forgot about it. Have just been in there for something else and realise use by date is yesterday.

Don't really want to chuck it away ( cost £6.00 and bank statement has arrived this morning eek), but don't want to take any risks cos it's chicken. Will it still be OK do you think?

Can't sniff it, before anyone asks, as have horrid chest infection and no sense of smell.

Best before is ok to 'ignore'.

    Use by/Consume by is NOT.

Especially with chicken, i wouldnt risk it.
  • It is almost certainly fine, the supermarket dates have a good margin for error in them. I would eat it, but would also rely on smell.... haven't you anyone else that can smell it for you?

You should be ok if it looks (and smells ok) - I would just cook it a bit longer than normal.

I had some chicken that was a day or 2 out and it was very watery so chucked it.

I am freezing meat now if getting near the date.
