I have never heard of uncooked lentils being poisonous!

    Hi bramble,

They are very unlikely to poison you, but as have said they may have been a bit old as red lentils in particular don't take long to cook.

I'll add your query to our main thread on food safety later.

  • I'd have opened it, cut what I wanted with a knife dipped in boiling water, and put the unused back in the freezer.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

    Hi sb88,

If it looked ok and smelled ok then I would probably have tasted a little bit and if it tasted fine would have eaten it all. :D

I'll add this our main thread on food safety later.

  • or use SAS techniques... smell it. is it ok? if yes, lick it and wait 20 mins. no problems? then go ahead and have a bite. wait an hour. no problems? eat the mo'fo'.
  • I got a couple of chicken portions out of the freezer this morning totally forgetting that there's some smoked salmon in the fridge that I need to use first. Will they be OK to cook tomorrow evening? I've not been defrosting them in the fridge, just out on the side in my kitchen?

They'll be fine and I wouldn't worry at all. Just put them in the fridge until tomorrow.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Assume they are still part frozen? Put them in the fridge to slow process down. I think they should then be OK to leave and cook tomorrow.

    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Yeah they're still pretty frozen. Think I'll bung em in the fridge and hope for the best. Only me eating them anyway. Thanks guys!
