Carers grant supposedly not in this area that anyone knows about, just been in touch with the carers support and they are looking into it however. From what it looks like the local government gets these grants paid to them but it is up to them what they do with it, so the grants system might be a bit of a postcode lottery. Got my friends there on the case however see what they can find out.One day I might be more organised...........

See I knew it would be a postcode lottery. Durham gets the grant from the government but puts the money into services like respite to give respite to those who are entitled (we so far are not) they don't do 'carers grants'. Oh well was worth looking into. One day I might be more organised...........

Lil_me.. they were given money for it..
Durham £2,053,535 2007/2008 ... so don't be fobbed off!! apparently it is a seperate budget to the cared FOR budget they get so they can't use it for respite.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Yes the local government is given the grant but supposedly it's up to them what they do with it, it's 'to provide support for carers' and they don't say what must be done at all, they chose to put it in the services budget. Purpose of the grants is set to as
The grants may be used towards expenditure incurred or to be incurred by local authorities
Carers support workers have had it out with them on several occasions from what she said. Trust me it's just typical of the way Durham does things. My friend asked for a social services carers assessment and the cheeky social worker said 'You've got a nice house and a car so surely you can pay for it yourself'. Hence I've never even bothered asking for an assessment! One day I might be more organised...........

Ok just of the phone to a playgroup and if i was to put DS2 in he could get up to 3 half days a week at £4 a day, so going up to see on tuesday. Might put him in 1-2 days a week and sell the stuff on ebay to make up the cost.:j
He would get a free placement next year but he's going to school.Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough. And things go wrong no matter what I do.Now and then it seems that life is just too much. But you've got the love I need to see me through.:j :j0 -
Afternoon everyone...
I've a lovely lunch, just finishing up jobs. Everything looks quite tidy and organised, its really relaxing.
On the subject of washing up and dishwashers....I do have a dishwasher but I don't put saucepans in it. So I usually get the dishwasher stacked but the saucepans aren't done till the next day....last night I didn't even get that done...
So what do you guys do for 'me' time???0 -
Vanilla try this link http://www.surestart.gov.uk/improvingquality/guidance/freenurseryeducation/faq/ has info on how to contact those who will provide the free places for 3 and 4 year olds. My sons went to our local school nursery from the Monday after they were 3 years old, free half day sessions. I paid extra for them to stay full days (9 til 3) when they'd been there a little while which I think really helped when they started school.
Frankie, my me time will be a long soak in the bath with some radox tonight as I'm aching!!!One day I might be more organised...........
