How would a PPC use this against a forum member? Surely it isn't illegal to ask for advice on an internet forum? Surely as long as you're honest it doesn't matter if they read what you've written (apart from the fact you've shown your hand perhaps). As long as you don't write something stupid like "I told them X but actually Y happened but they have no way of finding out..."

Quite happy to have my assumptions corrected though! And thanks for this thread. I was poised to write my first post "wrong" before I read this!

The starting point is always, do not reveal the driver's identity. If the OP of a thread can be identified and linked to The Keeper, and then says in a post, I parked, I was driving, I saw, then that's it. The scammers have the identity of the driver.

Bang, any defence using No keeper liability/PoFA is immediately blown out of the water.

It's not just things written in posts. We sometimes see a web hosting site account in someone's real name, or personal photos in other folders available for anyone on the internet to see.

Things that can link a poster to The Keeper are dates and precise times to the second, time and location, and other seemingly innocuous comments.

Not redacting VRNs, names, PCN, PoPLA numbers doesn't help. Using a felt tip pen but not completely obliterating the text underneath is another common mistake.

Ok, but if I wasn't relying on that defence then that doesn't matter? (You've seen my other thread and replied (thanks so much!) so you know what I'm talking about!) One of the helpful replies asked which PPC/solicitor. If I give that combination it massively reduces the level of anonymity(esp when combined with the other information, which the PPC is aware of)?!

True, but you need bespoke help and if you are going to defend as driver then you have nothing to fear by posting things/details, anyway.

please can you tell me how to change my user name
Read this short extract from The MSE Forum Guide - Frequently Asked Questions & Rules:
    Q. How can I change my username?

    A.
In most circumstances, this is not permitted.

The only reason we will change your username is if it puts your privacy at risk. This usually means you've inadvertently registered using your name, email address or something that gives away your identity within your username.

If you fall into this category, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and request that it is changed, giving three alternative usernames in order of preference.

Check the number at the top r/h corner of each post. This one is #48, your prior one #47. These are very short posts, whereas the sticky posts are very long, so you need to scroll a very long way down to get to #2.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

  • Please help!!! I have no idea what to do or how to sort this, i’ve been reading & reading all the threads & dont know how to get my issue resolved. I am due to attend a court hearing at the end of this month so need to submit my documents within the next week. Basically going back to 2018 my car was parked in a car park, parking was paid however the incorrect reg was entered. I sent proof of payment to total parking solutions who didnt cancel the PCN & then i got hounding letters from BW legal. I’ve ignored this but now i need to go to court & get this matter resolved. What do i do?? I have text message proof of payment with one digit incorrect on the reg. how can i fight this?? Thank you :)
