I thought i would reply to this post, but 1st i would like to say that i am not attacking anyone, this is my own experiences.
I am a landlord and have a few properties which i rent out. I have had problems with tenants in the past and for the few bad tenants i have had some brilliant tenants. Quite rescently i had a situation with a tenant who had not been paying there rent for nearly 6 months, i tried and tried to arrange a meeting with the tenant but to no avail. I called at the house on several occassions not to be heavy handed just to talk with them because i feel i am very understanding and i would like to discuss the rent situation. I had put off any legal action because they were a family with children but Basically it got to a point where i was paying the mortgage on the property with rental income and so i had to apply to the court for an eviction order which was served to the tenants but lucky i think for me they left early and OMG they had smashed the house up and left it a complete mess.
I understand that the council has rehoused the family but because of Data protection are unable to provide me with there forwarding address. I have spoken with my local council who also explained to me that under the data protection act the council are unable to provide me with contact details for my tenant even if they left owing me money.
I would like to expressly say that i do hope MOT is finding the help she requires and that the council do house her and her family because i feel it unfair that basically because the LL has sold the house he was justing looking for the excuse to evict you.
again i do hope my post does not come across as mean or nasty as this not my intension.
Thanks so much for reading and please MOT do accept NO from the council because majority that i have dealt with are rude and i feel they think you should be on your hans and knees begging.
Good Luck............I sincerly mean that.0 -
Morning all,
What a lot of activity on here whilst I was sleeping;) !! But its come back to bite me as I woke at 4.30am and haven't been able to sleep since:mad: .
Thanks for all your comments and lolly_pop thanks for yours too!
Whilst I want to get this situation resolved I do not want to upset or annoy anyone and by that I mean the HLO and 'powers that be' who hold the balance of mine and my childrens lives in their hands.
So that is why I have found great strength in posting on here and receiving your replies - you all have given me the strength to fight this and stand up for myself:AChristians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
Hi,
I'm another lurker. I've been following your thread for a few weeks now and I just wanted to offer a little more virtual support. I've been very fortunate not to have to deal with anything like this personally (and I know some council workers are hard working and conscientious because my DH is one) but I know my sister had many hard battles with the council trying to sort out her accomodation many years ago when she was single and had a young child. It was just so frustrating trying to get an answer or anything done.
I'm so impressed by your courage and attitude and that of your twins, and the excellent support of I-T, everything is crossed in anticipation of a quick and sucessful resolution.Nil Illegitimi desperandum carborundum

Give them a ring and ask for a timescale. Give Shelter a call too and your Councillor and your MP.0 -
It WOULD, however, be reasonable to expect that, if this LHO is so 'snowed under', additional resources should be directed their way in order that cases can be seen to be prioritised.
One of the worst things about waiting must be not being made aware of why you are being kept waiting - sometimes just a few, but kind and sincere, words of explanation are all that is needed to reassure somebody who is getting more stressed because they don't know what is happening.
Lol rog2, in an ideal world this would happen, unfortunately in reality additional resources have to be paid for and the money has to come from somewhere. Should councils throw more money at homelessness and reduce the amount they spend on repairing/upgrading their housing stock? Or should they increase the council tax to cover it?
I agree that clients should be kept informed of timescales and I'm disappointed that MOT's application wasn't looked at straight away once they'd got the dr's form. But because I don't know what other emergency cases they're dealing with, I can't judge them as being lazy.0 -

I see exactly what you are saying, Gforce, and in no way is my criticism of 'the system' aimed at you, personally.
Unfortunately, understanding what you are saying and actually agreeing with it are two entirely separate issues. We could spend months debating whether or not Councils are making efficient use of their resources and, indeed, the whole issue of how 'local government' is funded.
But that is not my issue - Councils, including my OWN local Council (West Wiltshire District Council) make great play on the fact that they are 'Investors in People' and in their commitments to various 'Charters' including those which entail dealing with the public.
IF Councils have such accreditations, or are signatories to 'Customer Charters' then they should direct sufficient resources into maintaining the standards required for those accreditations and for upholding 'Charter Conditions' or have those accreditations or 'charter' rights removed.
I accept that the world is far from 'Ideal' but the world in which mumoftwins finds herself is certainly 'Real', as is the one that I inhabit.
It is, therefore, entirely reasonable to expect that mumoftwins, or anyone else for that matter, is treated in the manner that the Council would have us believe is the manner in which they are committed to treat her.
The evidence of this thread would suggest that she is not.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
