I completely understand where you're coming from I-T, I can understand why this situation is so stressful to all concerned and of course I know you just want MOT settled and safe so I'm not surprised or annoyed by your reply but TBH and extra day doesn't make that much difference.
Please remember that the decision would probably have been made much sooner if MOT's dr's hadn't sat on the med form for soooooooo long.
I really do wish MOT all the best and I hope that the LHO take the mitigating circumstances into consideration when making their decision But that doesn't mean I'm going to start bashng someone who is just doing their job. So many people these days (not saying this of MOT) expect everything to be done for them yesterday. I have people ringing me to ask when their housing priority will be updated when they've only posted the letter the day before - I haven't even got it yet but they still complain it's taking too long and the person they complain about is me!
Then there's the housing staff. OK, someone's on leave so they can't do much about the issue themselves, but why isn't anyone covering the most urgent parts of their job? Why has the manager not made sure that someone is doing that - I know about spending cuts, not always being allowed to book temps, but none of that explains why people in urgent need of an answer have to wait until someone returns to work, whenever that may happen to be. I work in the NHS. If I'm on leave, no-one covers the basic parts, but someone does cover the urgent bits (making sure that people who've been referred for mental health assessment get appointments asap, costings & processing invoices within the time limit), leaving the rest for me to catch up on when I return. That hasn't happened to MOT. Her application has sat on a desk, & every phone call has been met with a virtual shrug of the shoulders. My guess is that the MP's enquiry has resulted in her case actually been looked at, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are many other people in a similar situation to MOT who don't know how to contact their MP etc & whose applications are sitting in a file marked "What the f**k's this lot?" When people actually start doing their jobs instead of needing pressure from an MP to do it, MOT & people in her unenviable position will start to see progress, & not before.
When you're facing homelessness, an extra day does make a difference mentally, if not physically. Those minutes you wait past the time that someone has said they'll call back & then doesn't can make all the difference in the world. To them, they may have good reason for not calling back as promised. To the person waiting, they feel that they've been forgotten yet again, are insignificant, & that no-one gives a stuff about them. That's why someone "just doing their job" isn't always good enough - it's getting the job done in a timely fashion that matters.
I do understand what you say though about people not being realistic. I've had patients ring me in the morning to ask for a letter, then ring me in the afternoon asking where it is! More than once I've been tempted to say it's sitting in the gap between my brain & the post tray.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

When everyone has urgent cases that take up all their time and everyone is fielding phone calls from here there and everywhere about why their particular case hasn't been dealt with, how do you decide which of the urgent cases is the most urgent? If someone has a roof over their head and another family doesn't then surely the first family's situation is less urgent?
At this point MOT isn't homeless so there is still time. I'm not saying that it is a pleasent experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone but it a day isn't going to make a huge difference.
I'm not saying that the LHO are completely blameless I'm just saying that it's easy to complain about people not doing their job when you don't actually know what their job entails.0 -

It WOULD, however, be reasonable to expect that, if this LHO is so 'snowed under', additional resources should be directed their way in order that cases can be seen to be prioritised.
One of the worst things about waiting must be not being made aware of why you are being kept waiting - sometimes just a few, but kind and sincere, words of explanation are all that is needed to reassure somebody who is getting more stressed because they don't know what is happening.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Just read the Dacorum council homepage- I had never heard of it before- but I think I have sussed out their plan they are keeping you waiting until your twins get to 16 then you are not a priority need!!! 5 more years of holidays and meetings. But seriously there doesn't seem anything to stop you getting help, you seem to fit into their criteria, and by their explanation you are not intentinally homeless. So think positive it will all be sorted sooner rather than later, it does have an end date. Keep positive. XX Viv0

I've just read some of this thread (the beginning and the end, didn't have time to read it all, but got the gist!)
I do feel sorry for you, and hope the council get off their lazy a***s and help you soon!
I saw a programme about a homeless family with children once, and I was APPALLED at the way they were treated, so I can't say that I am surprised at your treatment.

I'm afraid that although some council workers do a great job, there are others who just DO NOT CARE. The horrible ones just assume that anyone who is in trouble must be in that situation through their own fault, and don't bother to look at individual circumstances.
I'm glad you are getting good advice on here, be persistent and believe that one day, it will come right. You are being strong for your children which I commend you for. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
