Have you been accepted onto your Council's housing list MoT? If yes, then you should be bidding for every house that comes up - they may say that you have not been proactive if not....but if nobody has told you that you should be doing that, how are you supposed to know?

And it may be "occupied" but the tenant may not have given their notice in yet, to give them chance to clear out & clean it!

 Am glad I'm not nearer to you, i'm getting very tempted to go & thump this HLO!

Floss, I'm coming down to England next week. I'll pick you up and we'll head off to Hertfordshire (sp?) and beat up the HLO!! I cannot believe how long this has been going on.

MOT, hopefully you are at the Drs getting your form sorted out. She needs a slap as well! xx

    Morning all,

Thank you i-t for your post :blushing:

Received email from HLO about the empty house I was told about last night - to which she replied -
"I am not sure who gave you that information but 63 ******** ******* is definitely occupied. Even if it wasn't, the council allocates properties

through the Choice Based Letting Scheme, which i'm sure i explained to you at initial interview. Everyone gets the chance to bid for properties advertised

regardless of whether they have been accepted as homeless or not.

Apart from that no decision has been made on your application yet and as such we cannot start discussing the allocation of properties now especially

when we are not sure if it will be a positive one. I will let you know as soon as a decision has been made after i have received information requested from

    your GP. "

TBH I thought you would get an answer like this, I too work for a choice based lettings service and we advertise our properties as soon as they come on notice so that we can keep voids to a minimum (leave it empty for the least amount of time). I often have people writing to me asking to have a specific property and 9 times out of 10 it has been advertised and offered weeks previously. Even if it hasn't they still have to wait for it to be advertised and put their name down just like everyone else.

I wouldn't set too much store by what the removal man has told you, he obviously doesn't understand the void process for your local authority. Properties may look like they are being left empty for weeks with nothing being done but very often work is on hold whilst items are being ordered in, extra work can come to light during the course of repairs and sometimes we just don't have enough staff to deal with emergency repairs/programmed works/void repairs and new staff can't be hired due to wage/spending restrictions.

Also if you're accepted as emergency homeless I thnk it is likely that you will be expected to put your name forward for any suitable property regardless of area unless you have a very good reason not to e.g. domestic violence etc. I do know of families on my list who have had their priority reduced because they have refused a reasonable offer/enforced offer.

Anyway good luck with the dr's form and good luck with getting accepted on the list. Keep us posted.

    Hi Floss,

Yes, I've been accepted onto waiting list. I wrote a couple of weeks ago having already informed them of my situation to find out my 'points' allocation and I was still only on 10 (due to local connection) so hopefully this will increase and certainly should do in November when I have been here for 2 years. I have bid on a couple of properties but 3 bed homes are very scarce, mainly 2 beds that are offered.

Hi gforce, guessed removal man was being a bit 'optimistic' with the truth! I won't hold out for a property in the area I would like as I just want to get the twins and I settled, so so long as it has 3 bedrooms I'll be going for it!

Off to see Dr at 2.10pm as I figure I need to actually see her again face to face to emphasis just how depressed and stressed I am and HAVE BEEN for so long and that she needs to make sure that she words it all correctly so that the HLO has it confirmed from the Dr exactly what I have been through in the last few years.

If she made a decision now it could be the wrong one because she doesn't have all the facts. It's always better to have as much 'evidence' as possible to back up what you're saying, as unfortunately many people presenting as homeless are rather economical with the truth!
