Taco Fajita seasoning

I just use a pack of either cajun or fajita spice mix (discovery is good, but asda and tesco's own are ok too).
Fry off onion add meat, cook til half done, add spice pack, as many chopped peppers as you like and anything else that takes our fancy, as the peppers etc cook down they make a sauce with the spice already added.0 -
I actually dont use any and everyone says they are lovely, I think its a waste of money. I just use a little cayenne and paprika in cooking and as there is salsa when you serve it I dont find anyone misses it!0

Hiya
I'm the same as boo81, I don't use specialist spices. A splash of Soy Sauce when the meat's nearly finished cooking (or marinated overnight if I'm organised enough, lol) and if we fancy some heat a bit of chilli powder.
Oooo, and we serve ours with rice that we also put in the wraps. We make a little bit too much mix, and loads too much ricea dn after dinner we mix teh two and freeze for a 'stir fry' dinner another nightApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Hi sugarjunkie,
We have a thread on making fajitas with lots of recipes that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Thanks everyone. I was more after a sauce than a seasoning mix, I like my fajita's messy. Although if I can't find a recipe I guess I'll just stick to seasoning mixes as that seems to be what most people use.0

Hi sugar_junkie,
I've had a look through OS and can't find a sauce recipe, but I had quick look on google and there are lots of links to recipes that might be more what you're looking for.

Hiya, thanks for that. Yes I ended up doing a google and trawling through recipes that came up too. I think I may try a variation on this one: http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/FajitaHistory.htm as it sounded pretty good. It's more of a marinade than a sauce but it sounds nice and it has nice simple ingredients. I'll let you know how it turns out!0

Hi everyone!!:hello: :hello:
I've recently acquired a Mexian cookbook and loving most of the recipes! A lot of the recipes however require you to use quite a bit of the taco seasoning which is quite expensive for a sachet! Does anyone have any ideas for an alternative or a blend of spices that will give a similar taste as the cupboard are bursting with spices and I cant bear to spend money on these sachets!!

My chef flatmate suggests a mix of the following:
Cayenne, garlic salt, paprika, cumin (if you are using dark meats), white pepper, thyme and rosemary (small amounts of ground herbs).
Enjoy! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Hi dedicated,
There's an earlier thread with recipes and links that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.
