A friend of mine has a PS3 which i find to be pretty good, you can browse the internet on it and you dont have to pay a subscription to play online, it has blu-ray playback and because of this the games made for the PS3 are better as there can be more information/game play put on a blu-ray disc than a dvd disc.

OK, browsing the net on a console is neither new, nor revolutionary. The Dreamcast had a browser available for it and the Wii has a version of Opera available via the Wii Shop channel.

Silver accounts are now free. It's only the gold accounts that cost and at £40 a year, I reckon that's good value. True, the silver accounts don't allow multiplayer, but MS do have the servers to maintain and development costs of the Live service to pay for.

More space does not equal better games. Good programming equals better games. All giving developers more space will do is make the dev teams even more sloppy with their code as they don't need to tighten it down to make it fit within the storage medium.
the PS£ can be picked up for £319
    Best. Typo. Ever. :D
  • A VGA cable to a PC monitor won't give you true HD definition unless the monitor itself has a native resolution that matches an HD resolution. Most won't. However the quality and sharpness of the image IS HD level.

A monitor will usually produce a far sharper and clearer image than a TV since the native resolution is resolution. I ran my 360 on a 42" plasma for a while I had it in the living room and in HD it looked stunning. I've since moved 360 to my bedroom and hooked it through the VGA port on my 22" widescreen monitor. The colour is slightly less vibrant but I think overall the picture quality is actually very slightly better than my 42" HD plasma. The whole tone and contrast of the image just seems much nicer.

Don't get too hooked up on the HD thing if you are planning on running a console through a VGA cable to a decent monitor - you'll have the sharpness you're looking for.
  • Well, I've decided which I'm going to go for! And the winner is...................................................................................................PS3!

Had a long think about it and my reasons for choosing the PS3 are:
    1. Pro Evo - I've always played it on the PS.
    2. Cost - An Xbox with a wireless adapter and Xbox Live subscription would mean it costs £385, just about the same as a PS3.
    3. Noise - PS3 is quieter
    4. Games - There's more games I'm interested in on the PS3 (MGS, Gran Turismo for example).
Now, wheres the best deal? I've seen it for £425 in HMV with Resistance, F1, Heavenly Sword and an extra controller, can anyone beat that??

A few weeks ago my brother got his from Woolworths. Extra controller, with F1, Resistance and two bluray films (Hutch and Stealth) for £375. Not sure if they've put the price back up though.

I checked the woolworths website and couldn't find the deal for that price so it looks like the price has gone up. I shuold mention, I'm not interested in Blu Ray films in the deal as I don't have a hi-def tv.

Neither does my brother. Don't think it stops you watching them. Although I guess it's a moot point if the offer doesn't exist any more.

I think a very large part of it is down to personal preference. I know my brother is very happy with the PS3 and has never even entertained the idea that he should have got the Xbox.

As I think I've mentioned I think if it was me I'd probably go for the Xbox all things considered.

  • Looking through HUKD past posts (quick search really) turned up a deal at TJ Hughes which has a PS3 and Ridge Racer 7 for £339 + £5 delivery.

Never used TJ Hughes before but it seems like a pretty decent deal.
Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though

which is better, Canon or Nikon, Ford or Vauxhall, PC or Mac???

The bottom line is that someone has a preference for each of the above so for them it's better. For me, it's Canon, Vauxhall, and PC but there will be someone who would argue Nikon, Ford, Mac.

There's no point in offering condolences or arguing - if one genuinely was better and there was no debate, then the poorer quality item would probably be found out and gradually disappear.

Personally i prefer the PS3 but my mate has a 360 and he prefers that because his whole house is networked and he can get his 360 to talk to his PC.

    Horses for courses, really.
