Which is considered best, PS3 or Xbox 360??

Just looking at the upcoming games for the PS2 I think my choice is clear; PES, NFS, Burnout, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Tekken, Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid0

i believe the PS3 is the better console.
The games are on a par with the 360 but the 360 is around 12-18months ahead of the PS3 as far as game developers are concerned. So if they're at the same level just now and the 360 has at least a year head start, i believe in the next few months or so, the PS3 will start to release bigger and better games - blu ray capacity - 50gb compared to HD DVD capacity of around 30gb
The PS3 also has a blu-ray dvd player which the 360 doesn't have.
The PS3 has free online access but it costs to use the 360 online.
In my opinion, I'd go for the PS3 - your PS2 games will also be playable on the new console - no chance of that on the 360.
EDIT:Should have said - the cheapest blu ray dvd player on its own will cost you around the same as a PS3 console - around £450

I note that to have wireless online play on the 360 you need to pay £50 for the adapter, does the PS3 have wireless built in?0 -

Looks as though it would cost you the wireless router unless you already have one.
I'm not sure though - mine is connected via a cable to ensure good connectivity.

According to this website you can quite easily.

Great stuff, I've got a wireless router so I'd be ready to go straight out of the box0 -

I'm used to the Sony controller for PES so thats one point in Sony's corner and I'm sure the games will get better, but I've had a 360 and loved it and the games.
If PES is the main game you're interested in then get a PS3. The games aren't there at the moment but they will come eventually. Other things to consider
1 - Reliability - look up "Red ring of death" on google. I had 2 x 360's, 2 x RoD. Ok, so microsoft have bowed to public pressure and are guaranteeing to replace any consoles that get a RoD for 3 yrs from launch but that was only because the problem became so bad!
2 - Noise - in a quiet room, the 360 is a lot louder than the PS3
3 - WiFi - Built into PS3, £50 add on to 360
4 - Online multiplayer - Free on PS3, £40 a year on the 360. Has to be said though that Xbox live is pretty well put together.
Probably a bunch of other reasons for either consoles. There are definitely a lot more games on the 360 but that will change.
If you did want a PS3, Blockbuster are doing the PS3 with 2 games (out of a selection of 5), 2 Blu-rays, HDMI cable and some vouchers for £425.

I think I've pretty much decided to go for a PS3, but 1 more quick question; it will work on a standard CRT television won't it? I know to get the most out of the games I need HD but I only have a 28" CRT.0

Yes it will and it will still look pretty good (I'm using a 24"CRT myself while I try to pursuade the other half that we need to get an LCD to save the planet - power consumption etc.)Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
The correct answer to the OP is (you can include the Wii as well):
it depends on your criteria (and priority of that criteria)
Otherwise it's far too subjective to get a sensible answer and you just end up with arguments. PS3 is best under certain requirements, XBox360 is best under others and Wii is best under another set of requirements. Each answer is equally valid but you need to set the parameters of the question:
Hardware
Value
Games
Graphics
Innovation
Playibility
HD
Cost (not the same as value)
Age of audience
etc
etc
Each one of the above example criteria will probably give a different answer so I say you need to ask "Which is the best console which meets the following requirements...?""She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If we're looking at which console is still going to be here in a year's time, the 360 is the smart option. The PS3 is a dead weight around Sony's neck. It's overpowered and they're pitching it at the wrong market. The 360 can do everything the PS3 can do (except motion sensing controllers but hey, they didn't !!!! off Immersion so they have force feedback instead.) and do it better for a lot less money.
Sony's online service is still unproven whereas Xbox Live is a very mature and polished service.
With the HDMI-enabled Elite, the 360 now has 1080p capability, not that there are many games out there even on the PS3 that are even running at 1080p yet, much less affordable displays capable of running at that resolution.
*hears the cries of hordes of Sony Defence Force members screaming "BUT TEH PS3 HAS TEH CELL AND TEH BLURAY!!!11!!1!!!111!!"*
OK, let's look at these two bits of wonder technology from Sony, shall we?
First, the Cell chip. If you were to believe Sony, the Cell processor will play all your games, your BluRay films and any media you have on your PS3, walk your dog, do the dishes,
cure cancer and end world poverty all at the same time. In reality, the Cell is a poor choice for a games console. Sony's claim that it was 'a supercomputer on a chip' was not a lie, it really is but that's because that's what it was designed for in the first place. IBM designed the Cell to be used in massively parallel number crunching applications. The architecture of the Cell is so different that it is very difficult to program for effectively and when the other players this generation are using regular PowerPC architecture chips, developers are going to go for the path of least resistance and that means developing for the 360 and Wii.
Now onto BluRay. Personally, I'm not too fussed about the current HD movie formats, either HD-DVD or BluRay. The reason for this is that the standards are going to be obsolete before they've even gained market critical mass. Sony are betting the farm on BluRay being the next big thing but even though they have the backing of the majority of movie studios, the retooling required to convert factories over to BluRay drive production means that retail costs are turning customers off.
Now, what does all this translate to in terms of sales figures? If you look at the current world sales figures for all 3 contenders you will notice that the Wii has gone to within 600,000 units of topping the 360 in terms of unit sales (and that's with the 360 having a year's head start!) whereas the PS3 is struggling to get 5 million units in homes. To developers, that is the most important factor. Which system is the best bet for maximising unit sales and the PS3 is not that system.0
