Oh Tink I had to have a wry smile at your comments about how you had to make yourself look as ill as you are. It’s truly shocking isn’t.
It took me 18 months, three appeals and eventually a tribunal appearing before a panel of three judges to get my husband his DLA as it was then.
My poor husband was dying .........hold a picture of Stephen Hawkins in your mind and you will realise how advanced and how serious his illness was. it was humiliating and degrading,
I felt like leaping over their desks and throttling them.
To be fair the judges were squirming with embarrassment but still they had to go through the whole ghastly charade so they could tick the boxes.
I have never been so angry in all my life. Yes the money was backdated but that’s not the point. The money was his by rights and you shouldn’t have to beg. We were seriously in debt and all because they dragged their heels to buy time.
Same with Continuing Health Care .......... they drag it out. But I kept on fighting till I got it, for both my husband and my mum.
My mum actually died during the time they dithered about.:mad:0 -
It's infuriating to read these stories. It makes me not want to apply for PIP.
I might just apply, but not expect to get it so I won't be disappointed.
I took a nap in my armchair two days ago and I really suffered for it. It felt like my back was going into spasm and my neck was hurting so much that it was making me feel sick.:(
Other than that and having a migraine on x-mas eve (such great timing!) I am feeling okay at the moment.
I didn't get the blood test yet so I will get it done this coming week, probably Friday. I have the GP appointment on Tuesday.0 -
Wednesday you must at least apply. Otherwise you're doing precisely what they want.
We both have medical appts in January - Mr LW has 3 at the horse-piddle, and I get to see my new audiologist - I've decided to kick my existing provider into touch, as they're a ruddy joke; my hearing aid packed up a couple of months ago, and I've been unable to get any satisfaction whatsoever; they seem to think it's fine for me to wait til my next scheduled appt in February. Also, it was only when Mr LW called them and got shirty that we discovered that the lady who has treated me for the last decade has left.
We still have little Ronnie the long-haired JRT here; he'll be going home on Friday. He sleeps in the bedroom in his basket - but sometimes wanders about in the night, so Mr LW is using a head-torch to avoid putting the bedroom light on when he gets up during the night - it has become known as "the don't trip over the dog light".If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Hello lovely people, so sorry to read of how awful it has been for some to obtain benefit which is necessary and theirs by right.
Christmas was fine I managed a walk with OH and dear dog on Christmas morning at a local beauty spot, I was thrilled to have enough spoons to get my usual distance, cannot always manage it. OH and I shared the cooking and he enjoyed his meal, I kept quiet, but I am not a fan of roast dinners these days, a step too far for my dodgy digestive system:(
My mince pies and cake turned out fine, tho' the cake is huge, not a problem as it will keep well and refuel OH after all his cycling efforts for a few weeks:D:D
Should have been shopping this evening for the bits and bobs, mainly salad and veg, but feeling decidedly seedy as OH ordered the wrong filling for my GF Panini at lunchtime, he is a great guy, but I do wish that he would listen better (nothing wrong with his lugs:rotfl:) just needs to engage the brain sometimes, still none of us are perfect! Taking the makings of lunch to mums for NYD, beef de-frosting and will do pulled beef in the SC tomorrow in readiness.
Best wishes for a healthy(ier) and happy new year, with a good dollop of fun thrown in where possible along with a goodly amount of spoons:AThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Please don’t let it put you off applying! It’s a horrible degrading system and I think it is very wrong that people have to literally die waiting for help. The money is never the issue but it’s so wrong for them to play god with it when people deserve it and pay into the system. I still work (part time) and got told I must be fine if I can manage to work! I got my diary out and counted all 144 of my sick days with them. The lady had no knowledge of my condition and alothough she was classed as a ‘nurse’ I have no idea what qualifications she held that override my neurologist and MS nurse.
Any way ... we have had another chilled out day - going to the pantomime tomorrow and having a little party with the kids tomorrow night (we never make it till 12 lol)
I’m going to make a chilli in the SC tomorrow so will ask DH to chop the veg tonight for me so I can just chuck it in when we get up. I got a nice bit of gammon today for a dinner on Monday and hopefully can used the leftovers with my frozen turkey leftovers to turn into a pie!
I’m looking at my finances hard this month and the shopping budget has taken a hit so trying to eat and use up all we have in as will need money for School dinner money when DD goes back so don’t want to spend more thank I have! Need it to last 3 weeks so going to be browsing and meal planning as much as possible.
Oh I forgot to add we got the gas bill in for when we had to dry out a flooded house and have the heating on for 2 weeks solid .... it’s not pretty and we are going to be so much more careful

I hope everyone celebrated Christmas in just the way they wanted.
My doctor has changed my medication and I'm seeing her more often to monitor their effects. At least it makes me go out of the house.
I'm finding it very difficult to leave the house without terrible panic attacks. That, plus the fact my partner left with no warning a month ago which has completely thrown me.
However I am back setting small goals to achieve things and making small positive steps towards getting back into the world again. I've been out to get fruit, salad and yogurt. Just wish I'd remembered the bread!
I would just like to wish everyone a peaceful and fulfilling 2018. I don't often post although I enjoy keeping up with everyone's news.
Take care everyone

Being left like that must have been an awful shock.
Well done on braving the shops even if you did not get everything.
Please post even if it is just "Hello" as it will help you feel part of a community.

Pauline, that must have made Christmas very difficult for you, but you're doing well trying to pick up the threads.
Before you go to bed every night try and remind yourself of the positive things you've managed to do, however small they are. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that small things achieved in difficult circumstances are worth double points!
Happy New Year everybody. Keep climbing the mountain !0 -
