  • Morning...

Soworried...big hugs for you...such worrying news.

Wednesday2000....I had to look up EMDR, it seems that it CAN cause traumatic flashback memories ...I hope it settles down quickly!

I got some cheap leeks at the weekend...and I have a large potato and an onion on the veg-shelf....so I think leek/potato soup is on the menu (one for lunch and a couple for the freezer).

I also started a jigsaw over the weekend...over the few years I have been lucky enough to be given a couple of Wentworth jigsaws...they have lovely chunky pieces - easy for my clumsy fingers to manipulate!...and they also have really charming 'shaped' pieces..so the winter scene I am doing at the moment includes about a dozen pieces shaped like animals , snowflakes and snowmen!
  • Thanks guys.xxx The jigsaw sounds fun. I haven't done one of those in years. They are quite relaxing and absorbing to do.:)

I read up a bit about EMDR yesterday and it seems it can be a common reaction to the therapy. I realised I must have had PMT as well at the weekend so that might have been what was making me feel down too.

Some people online advised writing stuff down or doing a journal after the therapy to see what comes up. I do have a new journal that I have only used a couple of times so I might bring it with me today to do on the train journey home.

I hope everyone is keeping warm.xxx

  • Good morning all . Like Tink I've had posts disappearing into the mse ether ! I did fairly long ones on both Saturday and Sunday never to be seen again .
Catching up will be shorter posts .

So Worried I'm sorry you need the surgery but at least you know what's going on now and will hopefully get your mobility back after recovery .

Wednesday As you've now discovered EMDR is quite a tough form of therapy for many . It does lead to both exhaustion and for some can be a step too far in pulling up events from the past . DD had a little and decided not to proceed . She'll be 33 in a few weeks and the damaging times that led to her struggles are half a lifetime ago . Due to her physical health challenges she's careful not to take on very challenging things that worsen the extreme anxiety and dredge up times she no longer wants to revisit .
It's a personal choice for each individual so you may find therapy helpful . I know it's some time since your Borderline diagnosis so don't know if you've ever been offered Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) That is the gold standard therapy for Borderline and the one she would hope for . Sadly it is difficult to find and as our trust can't even offer DBT unlikely to happen .
So far DBT is the only thing she found moved her forward but I imagine you've already had that .
I would recommend a book you may not be aware of Borderline Personality The Facts .
It's written for professionals but goes into a lot of detail and is the best thing we've read . Written by Roy Krawitz a consultant psychiatrist and Wendy Jackson who has a history of BPD recovery and now works to help others . It's on the Amazon site . Look for the one with the pink cover as there are different versions and the one we read is less clinical than the others .
The book is published by Oxford University Press and I can highly recommend .

That reminds me for AOT and any with Psoriatic Arthritis there is a book on that with a green cover . Both books are our "bibles " and have helped during discussions with consultants . HTH .

Will be back in a while to catch up .

Wednesday (((HUGS))) for you hun; I kinda feel your pain - I still wake from a nightmare in a cold sweat, due to something that started over half a century ago, and continued for roughly 10 years.

I've never yet found a useful "talking" therapy; the trouble is, I have trust issues, and I simply don't trust the people who administer the therapy. Catch 22, I guess.

Very sensible; I get very cross at people wanting me to dig up bits of the past I've spent so long carefully burying. Plus, some of them come across as just plain nosey.
I must confess, I get very confused about all the different types of therapy; it doesn't help that I can't keep straight in my mind what all the initials stand for either.
Wanna laugh?.... GP mentioned CBT to me, and I thought "Yeah, I can go with that" - cos to me, CBT stands for Computer Based Training! :rotfl: I was so disappointed when she went on to explain what it actually was (been there, done that, got nowhere already, not doing it again). In my brainfogged state, I honestly thought she'd come up with something I could do online, and not have to Meet A Scary Other Person. :D

It is exhausting and I can see why your DD wanted to stop. I have read that it doesn't work for some people or that they find it too upsetting and stop. I want to keep on with it to see if if works at the moment, but it isn't the most pleasant experience so far!

I have just put that book on my Amazon wishlist, thanks.:)

I feel a bit better as I managed to get a GP appointment for tomorrow morning, somone must have had to cancel so luckily I got it.

  • LW You're interpretation of CBT did make me laugh . As a geek herself DD will appreciate that . If only it were true ! She and her boyfriend spend many a happy hour with Skyrim and other games or as he is a brilliant guitar player he will sing to her when she's having a bad day . He often makes up songs to make her laugh .
As I've already said everyone has their own way of dealing with the past . She has trust issues like yourself . Wrong diagnosis which led to many more problems and sudden loss of a therapist when she had opened up only to be left to cope the fallout of going back to the past have meant it isn't something she wants now .
She's reached a point where as much as possible she wants to live in the present and keep the past where it belongs . She can't change what happened but now she wont let it colour the present or impact the future . Of course like yourself it still has an effect but she wont let it define her .
Our GP is where her trust lies and he will never fail her and that's good enough for her . I do hesitate to put these things here as I worry it dredges stuff up for those like yourself who have chosen the bury and live each day like my daughter but I want to point out it's different strokes for different folks and there isn't a one size fits all solution .

Wednesday If you feel it will help you it's worth seeing how things go with the therapy . It wasn't exhaustion with my daughter but lack of trust and the fact she didn't want the present progress set back by dredging up the past yet again . She can do exhaustion , it's part of her day to day life but constantly baring her soul hasn't helped . She's found the best way for her and i hope you do roo .
Glad to hear you got an appt at the Drs , I can recommend Bell's cough mixture for coughs etc . We've used it for more years than I can remember . It isn't drug based more like an old fashioned cough mixture . We use the Mentholated Bronchial Balsam as chesty coughs are more common here in the NW . They do others including a dry tickly cough version which we haven't tried .
Pretty well all shops stock it either under their own name - in which case on the back label near the bottom you'll see Bells name - Our coop has it under the Bell's brand , Wilko under their name with Bell's on the back label . It's really mse as it's cheap and the most effective we've tried .

I'm another one who doesn't believe in looking back. The things that happened to me when I was small were not of my choosing so therefore I can't be held responsible, also all of the adults involved are now dead. Nobody to challenge, no point in feeling guilty - it definitely wasn't anything I did so it's best left where it happened, in the past.

My now isn't so hot at the moment. I did post at the weekend but like the others it vanished. However as the person possibly spending the shortest time ever in compression bandages I think I've had a light bulb moment. The bandages went on Thursday and were cut off by the district nurse on Saturday because of an allergic reaction. My skin has been fine all summer and yet in October the rashes and hives started again. I've been trying to think what I've been doing differently from the summer. Eating habits drew a blank so...then the bandage reaction happened. It too me ages to find it on google but the inner lining of the two part bandage system is made from polyester. What did I change in October when the weather started to get cooler? I started wearing my fleece pyjamas and they are made of (drum roll here) you guessed it - polyester.

I've been to Marks today and bought cotton jogging pants (can't wear jeans because the clinic staff need to be able to get at my leg), cotton bras (guess where else the rash is :o ) and some cotton vests and pjs. Fingers crossed I'll see a difference.

Tink don't wear yourself out doing Christmas. The kids will remember time spent with you and their dad rather than what you gave them for christmas dinner. I just do a normal chicken roast, we don't buy much extra food (unless the weather guess says it might snow, then I buy bread flour and long life milk) and we're happy enough with that.

candyhow did the jabs go? Have they helped this time?

    Take care all of you.

Oh I nearly forgot.....Tink, the easiest ever Christmas crafting I did with the HT was ninja turtle baubles. Plain green baubles, four colours of ribbon and some googly eyes. Glue round the centre of the bauble, apply a piece of ribbon and double knot it at the back. Apply two googly eyes by dabbing a bit of glue on the back and placing at the front of the stuck on ribbon. The year that we made them most of our friends went home with one and we still have one of each colour of our own. If you do a few the kids can give them out as pre christmas gifts for people's trees. They didn't cost much.

  • The therapist had to cancel my EMDR appointment yesterday and I was so relieved!:rotfl:

I can't remember if I said why I was having EMDR on here. I read that suppressing emotional trauma can lead to physical symptoms of pain so I thought maybe if I had EMDR it might help with the fibromyalgia.

I thought it was worth a try anyway, I will still go next week and see how I feel.
