Thank you candy and Tink. He had a lovely birthday with lots of visitors and presents.

I haven't had much sleep since the wound on my leg was debrided. I usually sleep on my front but there's nowhere comfortable to put a sore leg in that position. I swap to the local ulcer clinic on Thursday (as it's a wound that hasn't healed in 2 weeks it's now an ulcer) and they will be doing a doppler to see how bad the circulation in my leg actually is. I have a feeling that this ties in with the fainting episode after standing for half an hour at a funeral a couple of weeks before I fell down the stairs - that can also be caused by bad circulation.

Anyhows.....I'm trying to concentrate on healthy eating this week for both me and the HT. That can only be good right? Protein to help with healing and plenty of veg and slightly more effort made in the cooking department than there has been for thw last few weeks.

Take care all of you - I hope Polly and co are ok - she hasn't been here for a while.

    CRANKY, healing leggy vibes sent.
WEDNESDAY any good effects from the CBD yet? I can't notice much difference yet tbh :( If you're looking for comfy boots i'd recommend either Hotters or Pavers. They often have them a lot cheaper in factory outlet shops

Had a really hard day at work today and I was so tired and worn out I just wanted to come home! I didn’t and I stayed and carried on but I knew I had ran out of spoons :(

Picked the kids up and managed to find some turkey drummers and chips in the freezer so bunged them in the oven and sat down. Bit of a bad tea but think we are doing ok as it’s been a week without a fridge! We get the new one tomorrow thankfully and I’m hoping we can get some order back soon. I miss proper food and cooking nice meals.

I’m at work tomorrow then I’m done so I’m going to have a easy night and a nice shower then bed! Might try and make a list for the online shop and maybe a little to-do list to keep me in track while I’m off.

Xmas shopping is coming along ok think I need to start looking at the food shop as it will be the first time we have made Xmas dinner and stayed home so I have no idea what to buy? Think we will get a turkey crown as there is only 4 of us but maybe I’ll do some pigs in blankets too. Think I’ll look at some foil trays to save in washing up! Anyone have any good tips for a first time doing Xmas at home??

Hi everyone and thank you for thinking of us both . I can't believe it's two weeks since I last posted . We've both had what we now know is a Super virus , I did suspect it was Flu but DD had additional tests added to her regular bloods monitoring and it seems that what most people have had is indeed a nasty virus .
It was quite a relief as a couple of times it looked as though Dr would need to do an emergency admission to hospital again .
So as we say up North neither of us have been fit for nowt .
Couldn't eat or sleep , I was grateful for the post back near the start of the thread from Ariadne as the Lucozade and Paracetamol combo kept us hydrated and made sure we were replacing the electrolytes and other necessary things .
I didn't go anywhere for over two weeks . We were at the Drs yesterday and did a little shopping but it's only now I've had the energy to post .
I need to go out tomorrow and it's Drs again on Friday so wont be doing much else this week .
House is in disarray ! but will sort it slowly , there's a large washing mountain but I'll take my time .

Welcome to Wonky Teacup , lots of useful ideas in your first post . i was interested to read about the Tens machine with a belt clip . I used to use one of the first generation Tens but the idea of one you can wear while doing housework makes a lot of sense as that's when you need a bit of pain relief .
I've sprayed surfaces and left it to work a while for many years . I call it Inertia cleaning . I doubt many here will remember him but a few decades ago Don Aslett wrote a number of books on cleaning . The basic idea was to take as much effort as possible out of hard work . He used the spray and leave method and it was a real revelation to me . As he said letting it lie takes the scrubbing out of the task . I don't use chemical cleaners and find water and essential oil does the job for me , just spray soak and wipe .
I have a Shark too , the pet rocket version , I don't have pets nowadays but figured if it will pick up dog hair it should be good . I probably bored everyone silly on here last year dithering about a new cleaner but finally settled on the Shark on the reviews and a very good offer price .
I do find using the removable pod a bit heavier than i expected for curtains and coving but they aren't daily tasks so overall I'm happy .

So worried hope you get good news at your appointment on Thursday ( hope I've remembered the day correctly ) Here's hoping it will be something easily sorted .

A very belated Happy Birthday to the HT . I can't believe he's a teenager already . Not a little House Elf anymore . Healing vibes to you Cranky , you must be fed up now but you seem to be in good hands .

Candy you seem to have sorted so many things while I've been missing . You must feel a lot happier with the test results and how much has been sorted in the last few weeks . Good job you listened about getting the bloods done :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

LW Take your break if you need to . We'll be thinking of you and hoping you feel better soon . Well done on finishing the Cardie , hope it's keeping you warm and cosy . I suspect the stitching has started . Hope Mr LW has heard back by now about his appointment . Take care .

I have a lot of posts to catch up on so will read back properly .
Take care everyone . Get better soon to the poorlies .

I hope that you find a new supply of spoons for tomorrow Tink.

Once you have chosen your main item, perhaps choose one version of potato, 2 or 3 veg, piggies or stuffing, sauces?, gravy. If you eat Pud offer one plus ice cream. Similar way for tea time.

I don't cook turkey and a meat joint for Christmas day any more, mostly cook beef or pork for new year's day, nor do we buy enough sweets and chocolate to last to Easter LOL. Yay for the foil trays too.

TINK , there will be tons of Xmas cooking advice on the Old Style recipe board. As a veggie who refuses to cook or touch meat, i'm exempt from cooking Xnas dinner, but do buy desserts n cheeses to take to Mum's 😉Lazy I know but hey ho :rotfl:

I'm off out tonight for a meal and drinks.:) It's been over 3 weeks since I went out (and caught the flu!) so I'm looking forward to that. I'm going to wrap up warm and bring a scarf for my neck as my throat is still sore.

I felt cold last night and had to rub some deep heat cream on my neck and shoulders when I got up.

I was thinking about buying a new fold out bed to keep downstairs if I want to sleep downstairs when my husband is working nights. I don't fancy going up and down the stairs all night to let the dogs in and out to the garden. It's warmer down here as well.

No, I haven't really noticed any difference either so don't think I will be buying the CBD oil again.

Thanks for the tip on the boots, I will look out for them.:)

Aw, it's no fun being ill. Glad you feel a bit stronger now.xxx

I wonder if that is what I had as well, a super virus, rather than the flu. I haven't felt that ill in years.

LW Take your break if you need to . We'll be thinking of you and hoping you feel better soon . Well done on finishing the Cardie , hope it's keeping you warm and cosy . I suspect the stitching has started . Hope Mr LW has heard back by now about his appointment . Take care .
Thanks Polly; and I'm so sorry you and DD have been so poorly.

Mr LW called the medical centre to ask about the waiting time on Monday; they called back yesterday and he should have an appointment on either 21st or 23rd Nov (confusing - he says the lady said 21st yest, but earlier he was told clinics are on Thursdays). Anyways, a letter should be in the post shortly.

Still struggling myself - the auditory hallucinations are getting worse; the phantosmia (phantom smells) is bad enough, but this is driving me demented. :( Prob just stress related, so nowt I can do really.

Still, I have Suzie Spaniel arriving tomorrow - she'll be my 70th dog!!

Take care all; back when I can. ;)

LW I'm sorry to read of your present difficulties . My mum was born deaf in one in ear and later lost the hearing in the other . Like yourself tinnitus was ever present along with Paracusia . It is a very isolating thing as there isn't a distraction method from it . You're only the second person I know of with Phantosmia and that's a scary and horrible thing to try to deal with . When I light my lavender candle this evening I will hold you in my thoughts and wish a settling down and some respite for you . Hope MrLWs letter arrives soon , nothing worse than not being sure what's happening .

Wednesday There were a number of symptoms you mentioned which sounded exactly like this super virus but I was thinking you'd had a diagnosis of Flu reading your posts .
The cold sores was a big clue as were the foot problems . DD has badly damaged tendons and when something is flaring she gets her Psoriasis rash on that foot first which indicates inflammation starting an attack .
This virus is very much about inflammation . Our gums swelled as did sinuses , face , jaw everything hurt . Coughing sneezing hot cold and all joints painful you name it it happened . I've had pneumonia and pleurisy in the past and I never felt as ill then as I have in the past two weeks . Eating was impossible so it was a matter of keeping fluids down . I feel a lot better now but still week and wobbly and not much energy .
Re the cold sore , that was the first indication for DD and she'd only just got on top of the last lot from the norovirus . She does harbour the virus and in the last few years it's been more likely to result in an outbreak each time she's ill . Originally she would use Blisteze which is pretty effective if you catch it when you feel the first tingle . This year Dr has introduced an Anti Viral into the big box of meds to address the cold sore problem as she can't risk infection with lowered immunity . It hasn't stopped it but the healing is faster .
Meanwhile have you thought of trying Orthotic insoles ? DDs are made to the correct shape for her foot at the hospital but it may be worth you trying a good make from the chemist .
I always wore Marks leather ankle boots with a lowish heel . Footglove brand and smart and not frumpy . The last ones I bought were 4 years ago I bought them each year for the 4 years up until then - generally in the sales . I knew they fitted well and didn't hurt my feet . I still have them as I take them to the menders and keep them polished .
They altered them a little since then and I tried one pair and returned them as they have lowered the above foot height and it meant they were rubbing the top of my foot . Mixed reviews online some love them others found the same issue I did Might be worth you trying them on .
Meanwhile I agree about pavers , we're lucky to have a branch in town . I have some lovely summer sandals by Fly Flot I bought there and they are light and comfy . Sadly no longer available and a pair of navy leather pumps which still may be .
Pavers have a page on Amazon and I bought one pair of sandals much cheaper on there after paying a lot more in the shop .
    Enjoy your night out ,
    polly

LW when you read my previous post I mixed up Phantosmia and Paracusia . My mum had the former and I meant to say Paracusia is the scary and horrible one to deal with . Sorry for that , I've come to the conclusion I'm barely functional at the moment !!!

Re this years Flu . The numbers of reported cases to date are tiny and all from care homes which are generally ahead of cases among the general public . Our health trust has been reporting large numbers of Norovirus cases for over a month and wards are closed and areas isolated . At least DD got that a few weeks ago and I didn't . I didn't catch it last year either when she had it so maybe that one is one I am immune to for some reason .

Hope the FF has been delivered Tink and you have had a better day today . Don't worry about Christmas dinner you can make it as simple as you want . You dont't need to make a huge effort it's just a posh roast dinner . In fact if there is a favorite simple meal the family love why not do that . The christmas dinner police wont come knocking at the door if you don't dish up the traditional full works . More food goes into landfill over the christmas to new year period than any other time of year . If pre prepared fresh or frozen veg is within budget use that . Same with foil dishes which are reusable in the future . Use the money to cut down on time , effort and to conserve your strength so you get to enjoy a relaxing day with those you love .
Catching up I noticed you mention the guilt you feel for being ill . You need to change that thinking , no one chooses to be ill especially with life changing conditions like MS . You can't change it but your children will grow up aware of lifes challenges and see you loving them and doing your best and will have a realistic view on life .
