I personally think you did the right thing OP. I wouldn't back my OH or anyone if they smashed someones car. Yes frustrations can build to boiling point but you shouldn't have to back up someone who behaved in such an aggressive and hot headed manner.

He's also lucky the lad in the car wasn't a group of lads who set upon him!

I'm not too sure on current law but there used to be a law which said a spouse can't be forced to testify against their spouse. Therefore if this is still true the OP could just have refused to get involved.

I'm not saying this is recommended for serious crimes e.g. Of the rose west variety, but if your spouse is getting into an argument with a boy racer in a street I would be tempted not to side against them!

She wasn't testifying. The police were taking a witness statement.

If her husband didn't want her to tell the police what he did... maybe he shouldn't have done it?

OP - your husband has an anger problem. The fact that he's blaming you for his problems instead of taking responsibility is worrying. He needs to take steps to address his temper.

But would you be a witness against your OH with the police?

It's the same thing. If you don't understand a witness statement can be used in court then I don't really know where to go from here :)

    Too right.

Young lad learned by having back window smashed in.

Husband learned not do it again.

Husband has learnt he can't trust his wife.

And also must control his anger issues, and knows cannot commit any serious crime in future ;)

Your tone is unnecessary. As you were posting, I was googling it and came back to post a correction.

But since you're moving towards ad hominem attacks, I think I'll remove myself from this discussion. Regardless of the smiley.

So you class a broken window as a serious crime?

I didn't think I was moving to personal attacks so I apologise if I have caused offence. I was just confused when you seemed to imply that the OP would have got into troubke for not speaking against her husband to the police.
