That's an easy value for money test.
We are talking long haul flying here, not a return to Malaga.

I'm sorry, but was that a reply to my question?

A tangible reply would be more useful.

A 23 kg to 30 kg baggage allowance uplift is more than just value for money.
A refundable and changeable ticket against a non refundable and non changeable ticket is more than just value for money.

Perhaps you can at least try to explain why anyone should consider paying £455 for the FinnAir product in the light of the information that I have posted.

Maybe you know something that we don't.

I've flown with both airlines on that route, so know that it is not a case of a differing flight experience on-board. Though to be fair, I haven't flown on their A350-900. But a 31" seat pitch doesn't fill me with confidence.

So...let me know if I has missed something..as I still don't get why you would choose FinnAir over flying direct with THAI or EVA at the same price.
  • I've booked BHX-BKK for £344 in October, flying with Qatar. Similar prices from other airports.

I trust OP you have no objections to Qatar Airways?

Qatar are excellent, and the price you got was a v.good one.
If you've only got a short time between flights at Doha don't worry as Qatar ground staff are on-the-ball. When you check-in at Birmingham you'll be given a coloured envelope [yellow for economy I think] with your Boarding Card.

When you get off the aircraft at Doha just wave the envelope in the air, and you'll get directed to the correct departure gate for your flight to Bangkok.

Thank you, good to know. I've got longer but can get lounge access through a friend so looking forward to putting my feet up for a while ;)

Is there something wrong with Oman Air?

We've used Oman Air from London to Bangkok via their Muscat hub, and they were as good as anyone else. Shortish transfer time at Muscat in both directions too.

Only downside is that they only have one flight a day from London, unlike Qatar, Emirates [and others?]. So with Qatar and Emirates it's easier to pick flights that suit you, ie avoiding an overnight airport hotel, which add to the expense.

I wouldn't use any carrier that starts off with a short hop into Europe or risk being stuck in Istanbul or China for hours on end.

It's a wow sort of airport. Avoid the Duty Free, as it might hurt your bank balance.:)

Erm...no...they have two flights. Morning and evening.

    WY104 & WY817
    LHR
    08:25
    BKK
    06:20
    Next Day

    WY102 & WY815
    LHR
    20:50
    BKK
    18:00
    Next Day

Five different routes per day. but the two above have short stopovers.

:o I never checked their current schedule. When we flew with them, 3 years ago, there was only one flight a day in the evening from LHR, or perhaps it was only one with seats available at the right price.

The new Muscat terminal was still going up, I imagine it's quite plush [if it's operating yet].

I'd use them again, and have a stopover in Muscat.

There's still more options with Qatar, Emirates, and others though.

They are all good at the right price. Not sure on richardw's angle on this one. Even if he had something against the middle east airlines, that doesn't explain why he thinks a £455 indirect and inflexible ticket is a good deal.

A couple of years ago a £455 ticket from the UK to BKK might have been worth a mention - not nowadays.
