Head for points highlights some good prices via Helsinki http://www.headforpoints.com/2016/09/02/finnair-business-class-sale-london-dublin/

Always do a thorough search to compare fares with other airlines.

Thanks for the advice. I did and found several a lot cheaper.

The title states; BKK from £455

Did you miss that? Is that a Business Class fare?

The OP gave a link to a discussion which made it clear that the good deals on Finnair are in Business Class. I assume that when he posted here he mis-typed the number: the Y fares are not even worth considering, and this whole discussion is only of interest to people who want to fly J while earning Avios.

I won't travel on those airlines mentioned that have the very cheap fares. You can get western food in Bangkok.

Yes, but why go to all the trouble of flying to Bangkok in order to eat chicken nuggets and fried mars bars?

Yep also don't want to fly those airlines.

Air France is considerably more enjoyable than BA: particularly for food and drink in J, and also the lounges.

He didn't mistype the number. Their Economy fares to BKK do start from £455.

Take a look at the FinnAir UK website. That's no mistake nor a coincidence.

So it baffles me as to why he is trying to justify that Economy fare with an airline flying indirectly, when it costs much the same as a direct flight with THAI or EVA....and then goes further to state that he wouldn't fly with a host of other airlines, including Oman Air.....again with no explanation.

Almost goes without saying that this thread has gone a bit pear shaped.

Why would someone pay £100 more to fly in Economy with FinnAir than with Oman Air? Answers on a postcard please. :)

Decided to do a dummy booking comparison with FinnAir and Oman Air on their respective websites.

Chose 05/11/2016 to 20/11/2016 London to Bangkok.

FinnAir comes up at £550. Oman Air at £396. Scrapped that as obviously FinnAir doesn't offer a sale fare on that day. So will look for a FinnAir sale fare for comparison.

Chose 05/11/2016 to 21/11/2016 London to Bangkok so as to choose a FinnAir sale fare.

FinnAir £472. Oman Air £396. Oh but at the £472 fare, the FinnAir outbound flight is 29 hours and 40 minutes. If I want a duration to match with Oman Air, that will be another £90 please. Will try again.

    Ok...found a FinnAir sale fare at £455; 16/10/2016 to 31/10/2016...again outbound 29 hours 40 minutes.
Will keep looking....ok, found a sale fare with 17 hours and 45 minutes outbound, so we'll go with that.

London to Bangkok 17/10/2016 to 31/10/2016
    FinnAir £455 Oman Air £376

FinnAir flight duration including stopovers: 17hrs 45 mins & 15 hours 5 minutes

Oman Air flight duration including stopovers:15hr 55 minutes & 16 hours 50 minutes

    FinnAir baggage allowance 23 kgs
Oman Air baggage allowance 30 kgs

FinnAir fare conditions: Non refundable and no changes possible.
Oman Air fare conditions: £150 for refund and no shows. £100 for changes.

So why should we choose FinnAir over say, Oman Air?

25% instead of 100% FinnAir Plus points isn't going to get you very far and paying over the odds for them isn't sensible. Then of course the totally restrictive ticket and the smaller baggage allowance wraps it up in a totally unattractive package.

That's an easy value for money test.
We are talking long haul flying here, not a return to Malaga.
