Craft stuff. I have thousands of pounds worth of the stuff. So many pretty papers, stickers and embellishments! I've not bought any for ages as I've banned myself from the craft shops until I use up some of my stock. I've actually managed to fill a box and I'm going to try to sell it. Breaks my heart but I need the money and I'm not using the stuff.

I have NO idea what you mean... craft stuff is NOT frivolous! :rotfl:
Seriously I can whip up something in like 8-10 hours for £80 that could have bought online for £10 so it's totally worth it! :D:D:D

    Makeup...especially high-end makeup :o

I buy almost all of my clothes from charity shops or Primark and try to buy as much food at a reduced price as possible...but makeup is my weakness :p

Stationary of all sorts and all descriptions.

Charity shop and 1p amazon books (but have got much better at this).

    Cook books.

Although this isn't too bad I am a little ashamed that my OH and I use Microwave rice (we never spend more than 50p per pack though) and buy coke zero or pepsi max cans.
We don't drink an excessive amount of coke, but we really do love the zero/max taste as opposed to the diet version. Most supermarkets do their own diet but not many do their own brand zero (MrT have just introduced it though). We also buy cans as we feel it keeps it fizzy longer and also it helps us ration it. If we had a bottle I would drink a pint at one sitting, but i very rarely have more than one can a night.

Oh god, I was reading this thread agreeing to almost every vice :o :rotfl:

Luckily, most of my beauty treatments I do myself (nails, eyelash tints and lifts, waxing, etc).

I do have my hair highlighted, but its done in such a way so that only the bottom of my hair is coloured so it doesn't matter if it looks a bit grown out l, because its supposed to. Means I can stretch my visits out to two colours a year.

I also love beauty products and can easily spend a fortune. Same with stationery... I walk up and down the aisles just looking at the stuff :o

Acrylics and Gels are terrible for your nails (I mean TERRIBLE!) - if you do get them done make sure the salon doesn't use the dremmel style tools to remove them, it's insanely hard to get right and they can generate a lot of heat under the nail which can cause blisters and infections... (Yep I did my nail qualifications )
Ill-educated technicians are bad for your nails.

As long as you ensure that you go to a salon that employs properly educated therapists/technicians, who undertake regular training to ensure their skills are always at peak, then you will be in safe hands. Even if those hands decide to use an efile - they will use a carbide bit to remove the bulk and then switch to either a softer bit or a hand file when they get close to your natural nail.

Any unsanitary practices (reusing of tools/no cleaning of stations/etc) or inordinately cheap prices and you run for the hills (there is a reason that your nails are CHEAP).

Oh, and if you hear anyone praising the salon because their nails are so tough and never, ever break, then those nails are likely the result of MMA monomer (this is the liquid part of 'acrylic' and is basically dental acrylic. Unscrupulous salons use it because it is very, very cheap. But it is also very difficult to apply. It doesn't actually stick well to virgin natural nails so you need to 'key' the nail which means file it to rough it up. Once you've done this, it sticks like superglue and will trash your nails to remove ), and you run for the hills; because your nails SHOULD break. Your natural nails do if you put too much pressure on them, and enhancements should behave in the same way. If you're wearing the dental acrylic and put too much pressure on them, then you risk seriously damaging your nails.

Last thing, if you foresee yourself wearing enhancements long term (and your nails are suited to the product), then feel free to wear hard gel. If you're having your nails done as a treat, or just want to see how you go, plump for acrylic as you can soak them off easily - hard gel will need to grow out.

Completely forgot to even think of my Pepsi max addiction as a non-MSE vice...even though it definitely is.

To make you feel better, it's all I drink (apart from tea & coffee) and I go through 1-2 litres a day :o
  • my treat perhaps now and agin is decent ground coffee,I am not keen on instant stuff and a really good coffee is a treat for me.My DGS bought as part of his Mum's (my DD) Christmas present last year a set of coffees to arrive at monthly intervals from different parts of the world As she and I are the only 'true' coffee drinkers in the family she brings them down to me and we try them out every Sunday morning.I have been lucky this year and have a fine array of different coffees to use, and haven't had to buy any.But if I am away on holiday I always drift into the local coffee place(not big chains) to see what sort they have .I am also a bit of an nut about garlic infused oil and chilli sauces I brought back from my recent holiday on the Isle of Wight some smashing oils and sauces from the Garlic farm and the Hot Chilli farm there :) enough to keep me going through the winter ,although a poster on here said that there is a food fair in Broadstairs in October so I may just have to nip down there ,just for a peek you understand :):):)

I also am a bit of a nut about books be they from a chazzer or even the library I can't return a library book without getting more out.Hence my signature at the bottom which roughly translates as 'Too many Books ,Not enough time' :):):)

We all have our little moments of 'sin' and I think the Good Lord will put up with my chilli sauce, garlic oil, fresh coffee and books in the great beyond :):):)

My treat which is non - mse is postcrossing - This is exchanging postcards with another person somewhere in the world.

I love receiving the cards through the door instead of bills or flyer leaflets.

I also have a lot of penfriends - I think it is good to write to people and find out about there life , especially in this world where everyone communicates via the web and email.

I forgot to say last night as well: MSE (to me) means that we can save money on the things that we need, but wouldn't necessarily choose to spend money on (car insurance, etc...) to spend on the things that we want. Now, obviously, I'm not advocating going out and spending every penny of your rainy day funds! But what I mean is, it allows you to have nice things without spending over the odds to have them.

OS (again, to me) is how I was brought up - although I didn't realise it at the time. To me, it is being sensible with my resources and not wasting what we've worked our tail ends off for. My granny was born at the end of the first world war and brought up seven of her own children, and adopted another three. My grandfather died when their youngest child was sixteen (and they had just adopted the three a few years previously to that). There were no single mums and associated benefits in those days. When I grew up, my granny lived with us so we picked up LOADS of things that are now just second nature.

So, yes, I spend money on my fun stuff but I've just put my latest purchase of spring onions in to regrow. We went blackberrying the other day and there are trees and bushes laden with crab apples, sloes and rosehips, etc. It's a veritable store cupboard!
