Living Proof - I used to love having my gel nails done, but at £35 a pop it was a luxury I gave up when I went PT at work.

However, I 'invested' in a starter kit from Boots, which was less than £40 on an offer, and included an LED lamp and everything you needed, plus a little scoot round eBay/Amazon for a couple of colours and for less than 2 visits to the nail bar, I have a lifetime (ish) of beautiful nails.

My vice is kitchenalia - I do love a gadget ;) but am in remission at present due to reaadjusting to reduced income.

My daughter has a kit but she is four hours away. Maybe I am unrealistic about all this as my cost here in Lincolnshire is just £20 a throw. It seems a lot considering the thriftiness in all areas of my other life. The only other vice is Red Wine! I am not sure I could make such a good job with such a kit, but would take advice - do you feel you get the same results Islandmaid?

My secret obsession is stationery. Keep me away from Staples. Bar the doors of WHS.. Is there room in my life for one more notebook?

I skulk around stationery departments like an old man in a grubby mac investigating dubious retail outlets in Soho.

I have a great selection of notebooks. Notebooks big, notebooks tiny, notebooks pretty, notebooks with pockets, notebooks lined, notebooks plain..........
Are any of these notebooks written in? Don't be silly. The great project worthy of one of my notebooks hasn't materialised yet.

I also have a great choice of pens, which doesn't mean that I can lay my hands on one that actually works when I need one in a hurry.

Files, staplers, coloured stickers, post-it notes, drawing pins, felt tips, sellotape, rubber bands, letter racks, 'thank-you' cards.....................

Excuse me, I must go and lie down.

We are strange old birds at the end of the day aren't we. Great to know I am not alone!

And cook-books. Yup, I have too many of those ...[/QUOTE]

I don't know what you are talking about. One can never have too many. They keep the bookshelves grounded after all.

It took me a while to refine it, but I get a fairly good finish now, I,m not knocking your treat, as remember I went PT so with that drop in income, something had to go :D

We all deserve a treat, OS is a bit like a diet, if you cut back too much, where is the joy in life :)

Craft stuff. I have thousands of pounds worth of the stuff. So many pretty papers, stickers and embellishments! I've not bought any for ages as I've banned myself from the craft shops until I use up some of my stock. I've actually managed to fill a box and I'm going to try to sell it. Breaks my heart but I need the money and I'm not using the stuff.

Candles......wish I could say that I go to the Swedish store and buy a huge bag of tea lights on the cheap but I don't, I like the expensive scented ones and have to ration myself on how often I burn them.
The best thing about the nights drawing in is the excuse to light more candles :)

Mine is books, whether sourced from a chazzer (no more than £3 each, mind, more usually £1 each or several for £1) or the library. Predictable, moi? ;)

On average I buy 15 a month :o - but rationalise it, £15 a month to keep me amused and interested is a small price to pay.

Sounds OK to me Cornish Chick. But if I can make the gel nails last three weeks it will still cost me about £350 a year! That is disgraceful, but I just can't help myself.

Avon do a Gel style varnish which really does last amazingly well. Acrylics and Gels are terrible for your nails (I mean TERRIBLE!) - if you do get them done make sure the salon doesn't use the dremmel style tools to remove them, it's insanely hard to get right and they can generate a lot of heat under the nail which can cause blisters and infections... (Yep I did my nail qualifications )

I do my own filing 90% of the time, use a good treatment under my colour and then a top coat - I've got sooooo many varnishes but honestly the best one is Avon's Gel one... and it's often on offer too! Even if you went and had your nails done (file and polish) and then re-did your varnish with Avon 4-5 days later then you should save on that £350 pa!

FYI I have plenty of guilty sins lol both non MSE and non old style... main one is spa days a couple of times a year. I don't buy loads of clothes unless they're work related really, the odd pair of shoes from a certain bargain shoe website hehehe - so once in a blue moon when I'm stressed I like to go and get a couple of treatments and just chill out :A
